Had been curious about this place for a while, Seafood & Steak are favorites of the wife & I. We went there for our Anniversary January 17th.\r First and foremost, The Hostess and waitress were very polite.\r Made an 8:30PM Reservation, Arrived at 8:26PM, We were seated at 9:15PM. While we stood there for 50 minutes waiting for a table we were shocked to see hurried waitstaff briskly maneuvering uncovered meals through the crowded front entry way. (during peak flu-season)\r We were finally seated in the area directly under the glass dome. This is a very nice Restaurant to look at. The Dome, The panoramic view overlooking 47th and Pennsylvania, the stained glass wall separating the bar from the dining area featuring a depiction of ""The Mighty Mo"" at the top. It is all very nice and had it not been for the obnoxious club music and the dull roar of everyone talking over the obnoxious music the atmosphere here may have won me over. \r Waitress was nice but new. I had to ask her to bring out bread, she then brought out bread for us and three other tables. Every time she left our sight, she seemed to disappear for 10 minutes or more. This got old, especially as the night drug on and we just wanted to pay our bill and go home. \r Starters: ""Lump Crab Cake"" $14.99. Billed as ""perfect for sharing"" though there is barely enough for one. Flavor was good but it arrived cold.\r Meals: I opted for the Restaurant week 3 course meal ""Spinach Salad"", ""Cajun Seared Snapper"",""Chocolate Molten Cake"". $33.00\r The Wife ordered the 6oz filet mignon. $29.99\r The Spinach salad was, as expected ""forgettable"", just a pile of spinach with some sliced carrots, craisins w/house vinaigrette, topped off with sliced almonds. \r The Cajun Seared Snapper was very good. I would have rated this dish excellent had it not been for a couple of Shrimp tales left in the mix. The creole risotto flavor was very good but it seemed to overpower the flavor of the fish almost completely.\r Dessert was a disappointment. I was looking forward to ""the Chocolate Molten Cake"" but they had sold out. I had to substitute the German Chocolate Cake. It tasted old and the texture was a bit dry. would have been good with a glass of Milk to wash it down. \r The 6oz Filet was very good though $29.99 does not get you much. You get a tiny steak and two over-steamed pieces of soggy broccoli. Best order a side with this one!\r Wife's dessert: Bananas Foster... Where's the Bananas? There was a single slice of banana among three scoops of Ice Cream floating in a caramel sauce. I think they must have run out of Bananas but rather than have to sub two desserts to one couple, they just made do.\r Grade: I start with a 5 and add or subtract as needed.\r We had an 8:30 reservation and it took nearly an hour to be seated -1\r Appetizer arrived cold -1\r Atmosphere could have been great if not for obnoxious music 0\r Main Courses were both very good, due to shrimp tails in mine and the fact my very thin wife was still hungry after a $30 meal, I call this a wash... 0.\r Dessert was a disappointment, No Molten Cake, Sub-Par substitute, Bananas foster with no bananas. -1\r Waitress was very kind but... Forgotten bread and frequent disappearances. It took 20 minutes to pay the bill. -1 (still tipped 20% because she was nice) \r Grand total of 1 out of 5. I would discourage anyone from wasting their time and money here. more

Our family had dinner in McCormick & Schmick (Kansas City) and did not have a good time. Besides being placed at the wrong table (we reserved a window table), our food order being short changed (we ordered a side of mashed potatoes and did not receive them) and our meal was cooked incorrectly (salmon was requested medium rare and came out medium well done), we received no bread (whereas the tables around us all received bread) and being billed for horderves that we did not order (the horderves that the table next to us ordered and ate).\r The above dinner made us all sickly between 30 and 90 minutes after we left the restaurant. Emailing the restaurant the next day resulted in a no response. It was not until I contacted corporate that they called and apologized. \r The bottom line is their food, service, and customer service is miserable. I will never step foot in another McCormick again. \r more

Anniversary Occassion was great! 5/21/2007

We made reservations 2 weeks in advance for a Saturday at 6:15 for our Anniversary. We were seated when we arrived within less than one minute. For an appetizer we had crab cakes and a salad. For our entree we both had the Mixed Grill, which was a combination plate of scallops, shrimp, steak and Atlantic Salmon. We were tempted to order the Alaskan Salmon however. Our food was cooked perfectly and was just the right portion. Our service was prompt and attentive. Our waitress was very courteous and our table was kept clean of dirty dishes. We were given fresh napkins with our complimentary desert, which was apple pie. We were very pleased and would definitely return. We have never had fresh seafood on the east or west coast so we can not attest to its freshness but we enjoyed our food immensely. Pros: The ambience was impressive and beautiful with the stained glass dome ceiling Cons: It was a very busy place, as most good restaurants are. more

Disappointing 9/3/2006

We dined here on September 3, 2006. We made reservations for 7:30 p.m. two weeks in advance. We arrived at 7:20 and checked in. When we still had not been seated by 7:50 we requested that we be seated, and we finally were, only to wait a long time for service. We ate at Jake's in Portland, last month, which is also owned by McCormick and Schmick. The KC McCormick and Schmick did not even begin to compare to Jake's. Overall, the food was expensive and of only average quality. The service was slow and fairly inattentive. Our reservation was virtually worthless. It is doubtful that we will return anytime soon. Pros: Desserts are very good. Cons: Poor service. more

Outstanding seafood in the Midwest 8/18/2006

My fiance and I recently dined here with my sister and her boyfriend. We had a reservation (I highly recommend getting one) and were seated promptly. Everything was exquisite, and our waiter was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about their menu choices. I had the Mako shark steak and my finace had the Halibut; both were outstanding! For dessert we had the creme brulee, while my sister and her boyfriend tried the pecan pie; both were definitely worth saving room for. Overall, I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants great seafood while visiting in Kansas City. Pros: Everything was done to perfection more

I've had better... 7/25/2006

I've heard such good things about this restaurant, which is probably why I was so underwhelmed. Our waitress left much to be desired. I was tempted to take a dollar off her tip for every time she called someone at our table ""love"". We had the unfortunate luck to be next to the party room which was loud and subsequently caused our food to arrive very slowly. The food was only okay, but we all highly enjoyed the chocolate bag dessert. Not sure if this place is worth another try or not. more

When my friends and I decided to eat here we didnt know what to expect other than that we would be eating seafood, and let me say, all of us were stunned at how wonderful the food was. It was a beautiful day so we took advantage of their very nice outdoor seating and were served by some of the nicest people. Our food was presented so well and arrived very fast, not to mention it was some of the best seafood I have ever had. If youre ever in the mood for amazing food, great people, and a very beautiful environment I would highly recommend this place to you. more

Close to Perfect 6/3/2004

I have been here numerous of times. From Grand Opening to a month ago. Our company went to Christmas dinner here (group of 20). Reservations were made and everything was set. The staff was excellent and attentive to everyone's needs. The food couldn't have been better. However, a few did mention that their food was dried out. The only complaint I had was that they could have spaced our group out a little more (we were crowded at tables put together - with not enough room to move in our own seats). Personal lunches have been excellent experiences. The staff had great knowledge of the dishes. If they didn't know - they would go to find out. Pros: Food, Desserts, Service Cons: , Avoid peak hours more

Overated Happy Hour 11/7/2003

I went in one evening for McCormick's happy hour which I had heard so much about and was very disapointed. The service was awful. The waitress took forever to greet the table and did not even offer us a second round. It was like she was trying to push us out of the restaurant. My friend and I both worked in the service industry and were very surprized. The food was alright but not the calibur of food I've had there before. I will go back in for dinner any time but never again for the happy hour. Cons: service more

I like McCormick & Shmicks, but your listing of the resturaunt as romantic is totally erroneous. Unless your idea of romance is a hot date with your taxidermist. Pros: good seafood, place to be seen, great bartenders Cons: crowded bar more

Mc Miss 3/11/2003

WIth the best seafood in KC, at least in variety, this could be better with a better staff. Service is always uneven in here even when it is slow. Forget being a regular, they never seem to know your name or care. Pros: good seafood, good wine, ambiance Cons: price, poor service, obnoxious bartenders more

Seafood 3/4/2003

The restaurant has an excellent variety of seafood from world-wide originations. The seafood always tastes fresh and is expertly prepared. Occasionally the service lacks at tmes depending on the busyness of the server. Pros: great location more

A Fresh Dining Experience 1/29/2003

Excellent food (especially the black grouper)!! Service was great as well. Very knowledgeable regarding menu. Overall experience was great. Would highly recommend. Pros: great food, expert service Cons: crowded more

fresh for the midwest, but... 9/12/2002

McCormick & Schmick's brings seafood that is fresh for midwestern standards, which is welcome. But not to be confused with what they serve in Portland or Seattle. What could otherwise be a positive experience in the Plaza is marred by service that at best is indifferent, and more often just plain careless. Ambience is quite good, but could be a little more relaxed. more

Fantastic 8/5/2002

I have gone several times to McCormick Schmidt and the service and food has been very good. The service has been outstanding as well. Pros: good location, great ambiance, delicious food more

not fresh 7/26/2002

yet another chain restaurant on the plaza.... i don't know why i keep eating fish in the midwest when i promised myself i wouldn't. i used to live on the east coast (both in florida and in new england) and the fish would be hours-fresh. in the midwest, fish is at least a day old (which is ok) or a couple days old (not okay). i wasn't impressed with M and S's... the best thing on the menu is the seafood chowder. the decor is beautiful and sitting outside is nice too. this is a good place to get drinks. they have a beautiful bar. more

sizzling seafood 7/25/2002

One of the best places to eat in KC. Always fresh food and always great service. Good size portions to leave room for scrumptious desserts! more
