Years later and a new house I used McCarthy Services. They arrived for my general maintenance and found my AC unit was not working. This was Monday, March 11, 2019. They determined it was my reversal valve and provided an estimate of $2,100 for the fix or a new unit. Since the unit is quite old, it was logical to just upgrade the whole system. They came out the next day and removed the unit and put in a brand-new unit. Friday, a few days later, we had a hot day, so I finally had to turn on the AC.... except one problem, there was no AC, I had to call McCarthy and they sent out a tech the next day. Here is where everything goes downhill. The tech troubleshoots the problem and tells me the exact same thing as the tech told me with my old unit. that it was my reversal valve... how can this be with a new unit??? After I tell him this, he spends several hours more looking into the problem and it turns out it was not the reversal valve, but my Thermostat the whole time. Which now opens a can of worms. Because if it was my thermostat the whole time, this means the tech on Monday incorrectly troubleshot the problem, also, the tech that installed the new unit, did not test for AC as they would have found this out. Let’s bring you to today, so far, the Managers barely responds on how they are going to fix this, they want to offer me $500 for compensation when in reality I had a perfectly working system that did not require replacement. The new unit was $7,500 which I wouldn't have spent if the 1st technician and 2nd set of technicians did their job correctly. They are also willing to remove the new unit and refund my money, but since they junked my old unit, that still screws me out of service. Please share this story with anyone you know. I know people make mistakes as I have done so myself, however good companies who care about their customers make the wrong right, which this company is failing to do.
