Maxfield LA the west coast style Mecca 11/14/2010

hello people! I am a jewelry designer from Greece and I'm honored to be represented in the States by this amazing boutique. My brand is called after my name: Theodoros, and you can find my line at the jewelry section. It was a dream of me to present my collection to this retailer because the ""noir"" and dramatic ambient of this store is matching very closely my aesthetics as a designer. The people that work there are real artists of their own king! like Alfred, batman's loyal butler, these stylish people serving their guests in a very unique and honouring way.. If you are lucky enough, Luis the master of the floor will introduce you to Maxfield's world, it feels like a treasure hunt, this place is full of amazing little treasures that will blow your mind. Rare objects and artefacts from unexpected places of the world, that broadens the spectrum of thinking, it's like Noah's boat but for blessed objects instead for animals! more

disappointed 7/30/2010

I purchased two pairs of $350+ each sunglasses at Maxfield's and after five months of very light use one pair began to simply fall apart. I took them to my eyeglass repair shop and was told that they were poorly manufactured and could not be repaired. ""for what you paid you should return them"" ""this should not happen"". I took them back to Maxfield's and the sales associate said, ""oh yes, the leather peels away....that happens with those"" . The manager of the store was busy ""helping"" another customer with a product that also appeared to be falling apart. When she finally approached me, she curtly stated that she would not take the glasses back. She claimed that they would glue them back together. There is nothing worse than shopping at a high end store, spending top dollar on a product, not being able to return a product with a clear manufacturing defect and to be treated poorly by the management. i like this store and the products that they carry but with poor management like that I will shop elsewhere. Barney's and Neiman Marcus stand behind their merchandise and have classy management that treats their clientele appropriately. Maxfield's current management is a turn off. The glasses that I purchased there are garbage and not worth the price point. Cons: don't stand behind their merchandise more

DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE PEOPLE! THIS STORE IS DEPRESSING! 1/25/2009

Let me first start by saying that, since when are CRYSTAL D*CK STATUES that are sold for thousands of dollars - a fashion commodity?.... Or a statue of a DEVIL F*CKING A GOAT?!?.... or a $30K ROLEX with a marijuanaa leaf on it.... WTF!!!! This store is for those WASHED OUT, STONER, MISERABLE RICH PEOPLE WHO WANT TO K1LL THEMSELVES & WANT TO WASTE THEIR MONEY.... Pros: YOU TELL ME? Cons: EVERYTHING! more

Upscale, not touristy, amazing Hermes selection 2/19/2008

This place is a gem in LA. The most impressive Hermes collection I have ever seen, vintage birkin bags....ahh I was in heaven. The staff was very helpful, offered me a bottle of water and showed me around the museum like store. Lots of stuff to see, be sure to at least have an hour on your hands to check out the interesting gothic like museum pieces such has a real shrunken head, and a real stuffed bat....If you know someone that has everything..this is the place to shop! Highly recommended!!! more

Intimidatingly Complete 12/10/2007

Maxfield's is a great store with an awesome selection of specialty items with beyond big ticket prices, including a $120K desk I saw there once. The minimalist concrete facade really does lend to a sense of intimidation and snobbiness. They have one window and it always has a great conversation starter of a display. I walked past it for years before I had the courage to enter it. When I finally did, everyone had a certain elitist, you better know why you are here look to them. Luckily I was surprised to find out that they were really nice people who once asked for help, provided amazing service. I prefer them to Neiman Marcus sales folk any day of the week. Maxfield's in my opinion is truly an acquired taste boutique. It's definately not for the tourists, and most people wont understand it either the concept of it either. However, if you want CDG, vintage Hermes, Prada not found at the Epicenter, or the entire D.L & Co collection including things they don't list on their website; don't be scared. Pros: Items even designer flagships don't carry Cons: You really have to know what you're looking for more

Snooty Salespeople! 9/9/2004

I fully agree with the two previous posters. Why, especially in LA, are salespeople so snooty? I find it ironic, considering I am the one shopping and most likely hold a much bigger portfolio than these cheese ball Hollywood wanna-be washouts. If Maxfield had some real, helpful salespeople, I'd probably be bankrupt. This place has some serious stuff! But the attitude is just such a turn-off. I ended up taking my business over to Barneys, where I found the same suits and coat. Pros: Great Variety Cons: , Attitude more

Serious goods, serious attitude 6/22/2002

The selection at Maxfield is terrific, (their buyers are stellar) with many cult labels (Raf Simons, Carol Christian Poell, Martin Margiela) mixed in with the biggies (Armani, Gucci, Dior) and probably the best selection of CDG and Yamamoto in the city. The (relative) bargains at Maxfield Bleu are likewise terrific, but the attitude of the salespeople leave something to be desired. Why is it that, with very few exceptions (Traffic Men, Lisa Kline Men), the salespeople at the high end boutiques and specialty shops in LA need to cultivate a hipper than thou attitude? Use your head. This is LA. You don't know if the person coming in dressed head toe in Dolce & Gabbana or the one in ratty old sweats is the big spender. Pros: Great selection, Nice environment, Nice layout Cons: Bad attitude, Bad attitude, Bad attitude more
