Maurice Joffe Tax Svc

We used this service based on the recommendations of a couple of friends and set up an appointment with them when they came up to the San Francisco Bay Area early in the year. We came prepared with all of our documents and provided a ton of documentation neatly put together in a folder. The preparer asked for some additional information which we scanned and emailed to him per his request. When it got to the point that all of our friends had received their returns and ours was still missing, we tried calling and emailing the offices multiple times, with no response. Eventually, with only days left before taxes were due, we finally reached a live person and were told that they had ""lost"" or ""forgotten"" our paperwork (depending on who we talked to). (Funny, they had successfully cashed our check immediately after our initial appointment.) We ended up needing to file for an extension and submit the return late, as they had to ""re-do"" the work. Then a couple years later, the IRS proceeded to let us know that the calculation was *wrong* and that we needed to pay additional toward the filing. We proceeded to contact their office again, with the same lack of response, even though it was no longer the ""busy tax"" season. They refused to recalculate the return or work with us on this. DO NOT WORK WITH THIS GROUP AS THEIR SERVICE IS UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNETHICAL. Pros: Not much Cons: Poor customer service more

Well, I've been going to Maurice Joffe's for close to 20 years now and have only found them to be courteous. Of course, if you go there with 3 days to go before your taxes are due, you will find a bunch of stressed people. Consequently, I make my appointment early, usually in February, and I always provide them with ALL my info up front. Well, as best I can, there's always some form or another that is a straggler. This isn't MacDonald's where you can just drive up to the window and go. It's a personal business where people get to know what you do for a living and how best to prepare your tax returns. As with any relationship, you'll only get out of it what you put into it. Pros: Lots of experience. Cons: Small parking lot. more

I wouldn't suggest these guys in at all. Bernadette the ""part owner"" of the company feels that you should be thanking her for taking your money for services rendered. These guys have strung me and my husband along for 6 weeks now, claiming that our taxes would ship at the end of every week. Now, it's 3 days before tax day and nothing is finished. The only reason we didn't think to use someone else is because we have been going here for the past 5 years. That's right, the longer you do business at Maurice Joffe tax service the less valued you are. I would've been fine if they would've just said they didn't feel like doing our taxes from the start of this season. Instead they've been acting like they're working so hard to get it finished and haven't done anything. Cons: The part owner of the company deosn't understand that the client's pay for the business to function. more
