Average Tex-Mex 8/26/2011

I LOVE MEXICAN FOOD, and with the plethora of Tex-Mex, Mexican and even Spanish offerings in the Dallas area MATTITO'S IS NOT ONE OF THE BEST! I don't mind going... yes, chips and salsa are fine, patio is decent... but the service is usually haphazard, and the food quality is so-so. \r \r Let's compare.... Manny's, Mia's, Uncle Julio's, ummm... Gloria's even! You can get better so-called Tex-Mex at the Salvadorian restaurant! Another great option low on the radar---Mario's (Lemmon Ave)!! Great service, great menu options, delicious guac, tender flavorful brisket tacos! STRONG margaritas and many to pick from! Not expensive...\r \r Skip Mattito's and head elsewhere!!....\r more

Service horrible, food not so great either 2/17/2011

I went on a recommendation. Very disappointed, should have walked out the door when the hostess was rude from the get go. Waitstaff was just as bad.\r \r We went for a girls night out, there were 5 of us. Hostess sat us at a tiny table. Not enough room for all our drinks and food. \r \r The waitress was rude and argumentative. She forgot my drink. We had 2 vegetarians, she didn't know which items were vegetarian on the menu and and seemed po'd that we would even ask.\r \r Lots of sighing and rolling eyes by the waitress. When she brought items she would slam them down on the table. Scary!\r \r The only nice people were the bus boys who kept our water/tea full. We ate our small basket of chips fast. I ordered a full queso that ended up only half eaten because we never got anymore chips!\r \r Ate the avocado enchiladas which were creamy but bland. Margarita was okay. Not a place I would ever go back. Manager needs to be fired. Everyone who wrote good reviews must have started with some strong margaritas first -- more

Awesome!!! 8/23/2010

My boyfriend and I went to Dallas for a 3 day vacation. We wanted to have a nice dinner and this is the place we decided on. BEST DECISION EVER! Got there about 30 mins before closing time and they didn't rush us at all. The chips and salsa were amazing. Our food was delicious and came out about 10 minutes after we ordered. Friendly waitstaff and laid back atmosphere. more

Fun atmosphere, great food! 2/23/2010

There are a lot of Tex Mex places to choose from in Dallas, but this one is a cut above. We were there as part of a large group, a company party, and Mattito's was perfect for that. Attentive wait staff were right on top of things - even with our large group. The colorful, festive atmosphere was great for our 'fiesta'. The food was the best part. Everyone with our group was happy with their order. Can't wait to take my family back to the place with me. more

Best Restaurant for Tex Mex in Uptown 2/22/2010

Mattito's is my favorite restaurant for Tex Mex food! The ""Bob Armstrong"" dip is a must! I don't think it's on the menu so you'll have to ask for it. I love the beef fajita salad - their orange chipotle dressing is awesome! Baja chicken is delicious, too! In fact, everything I've ordered from the menu is superb! The atmosphere is fun and festive. The wait staff are friendly and always go above and beyond. I go often and have never encountered inadequate service. I like that valet parking is offered as parking is limited so it's very handy to get out right at the front door. Mattto's Sunday brunch is very popular so be prepared for a wait (I think brunch starts at 10:30am) but it is well worth the wait. Their selection of food is enormous! The chocolate fondue is my favorite! They are accommodating to children as I've taken my young son several times. Definitely check it out - you won't be disappointed! Pros: Great food, friendly staff, top notch customer service more

Baja Chicken!! MMMmmmmm 2/22/2010

Went to Mattito's again last week for ritas and dinner, it was really crowded but the food and service were excellent as usual. Cool art on the walls and awesome new TVs in the bar! Mpac says get the Baja Chicken and a rita...mmmm! Pros: excellent food, service, atmosphere Cons: it's not closer to where I live more

Unique Mexican Choices 2/22/2010

My friend and I visited for the first time last Friday night, and it was hopping! We waited about 25 min for a table, but were able to squeeze into the bar for this fantastic blue margarita that we found out later is called a Rumbarita. These are really tasty! When we finally got seated, it took a couple of minutes for our server to get to us, but he was very friendly and helpful once he got there. They had advertised ""avocado enchiladas"" on the sign out front, so I had those, and my friend had grilled fish tacos. The avocado enchiladas were unbelievable! Fresh avocados in corntortlllas with this creamy cilantro sauce, I've never tasted anything like this before. The fish tacos were also good, they were garnished with this kind of slaw salad that was really tasty. The place was packed with all kinds of people, from families, to dating couples, and a few big groups. I would reccommend Mattito's to anyone, and I'll definitely be back! Pros: Really unique takes on Tex-Mex Cons: Pretty small area to wait for table more

This place had some good food 2/16/2010

The brunch was great though it took me 30 mins to get a table it was worth the wait. Pros: Great Brunch Cons: Over booked more

DELICIOUS 12/6/2009

This place is fabulous. The food is beyond great! My kids clean their plates there, which doesn't happen most places. The portions are generous, the atmosphere is bright and festive, the bus staff is ever ready to fill water/tea glasses and did I mention the food is fantastic??? Authentic, not uppity, honest to goodness Tex Mex. Wear loose fitting pants, you'll be stuffed and happy when you leave. Pros: salsa could be eaten w/ a spoon it's so great Cons: haven't found one more

Best mexican restaurant ! 3/20/2009

Ok people, this dallas mexican restaurant is the only patio I know in DALLAS THAT DOES NOT FACE A STREET, HAS FANTASTIC MEXICAN FOOD AND GREAT HAPPY HOUR SPECIALS. The brunch at this tex-mex/ Mexican restaurant is amazing as well. If you are on my face book and reading this, you can call me anytime and I will go to this dallas restaurant ANY time. Great service, great food and great fun. Pros: Love the brunch Cons: not a one more

Excellent Authentic 3/3/2009

Great! From out of state and went with friends. Everyone with us tried something different and everyone enjoyed their meal. Great Service, Great Food, Great Atmosphire. Surprised by the reasonable prices. A must try. more

NOT AT ALL FRIENDLY 12/30/2008

Rude wait staff, ruder management. Asked for a table to accommodate a friend in a wheel chair and it turned into a huge argument with the staff and manager. Incredible! \r \r Might have been worth the hassle if the food was good enough, but with the plethora of GREAT tex-mex in this city, why put up with attitude, especially if you or one of your party are disabled. more

Saturday lunch specials! 9/27/2008

Great patio! I went to Mattito?s Tex- Mex in Uptown yesterday for a snack and cold drink while the Uptown Festival was going on. What an oasis! On a Saturday around 3pm, it is not too crowded, and the patio have fantastic vines sheltering you from the Texas sun and the birds are chirping. The service was excellent, the ice tea fresh, the cips warm and fresh and the margarita strong. We were offered the daily lunch specials on a SATURDAY! This alone I would come back for. This is the first cost saving Saturday lunch location I have ever been to! I love the waiter that was gracious enough to point out the lunch specials and help us all with the tightening of the belt while still enjoying the treat of fantastic Mexican food that we could not possibly make better at home. Their Brunch is fantastic which everybody knows about, but I strongly recommend you try a off time and day for your own taste of a Mexican oasis right here in Uptown. Pros: A mexican oasis on the patio! Cons: not a one! more

Fantastic Tex-Mex in Dallas AND now Frisco! 9/22/2008

Wowee! We went to the Frisco location AND the Dallas Location in the past week for Fajitas in Frisco and Brunch in Dallas and both were superb! I LOVE Mattito?s! The tortillas were fresh, the salsa homemade, the service excellent and the atmosphere exceptional. I have lived in Dallas only for 5 years and must say for this area the quality and price point is far above most of the tex-mex out there. Give them a try I think you will find THIS companies TEX-MEX an eye opener on what it should taste like  Pros: Great food , value and service Cons: the dallas one is a little hard to find, so map the road more

There are better places 8/15/2008

I went with a large group and we had an awful experience. Their drinks weren't great. The food wasn't all that good. Our waitress was beyond awful. When people tried to order a regular margarita she would say well you could get a bad margarita like you want or you can get a top shelf good one. Then they refused to split up our check of 14 people. The staff stated if you don't request seperate checks before you order, they can not split them. It seemed obvious that 14 women would be on seperate checks or perhaps the staff could ask if it was seperate. Their swirl margaritas have raspberry in it and it makes the drink very sweet and intolerable. In a city with so many different choices for Mexican food, I would suggest you look somewhere else. Pros: parking Cons: food, service, drinks more

Bland + overcooked + rubbery meat + sloppy plates = DISAPPOINTED CUSTOMER 6/5/2008

I was HIGHLY disappointed in this restaurant's food. I'm very familiar with this kind of food, but this place let me down. Matitos had been recommended to me by numerous people, but when we went and I ordered the light fajitas (that come with broccoli and cauliflower instead of onions and green peppers) the fajita steak was overcooked and the whole meal was bland. The fajita meat and broccoli tasted more like Chinese food beef and broccoli than anything Tex-Mex. The meat was rubbery and borderline inedible. I came into the restaurant very hungry, but the food was so bad that I couldn't even eat 1/3 of my meal. The most ""seasoning"" that was on my plate was spicy jalapeno in my pico de gallo (I like spicy food, but that's all there was to the meal!). My boyfriend got tacos, which were under-seasoned and bland as well. His refried beans tasted worse than ""El Paso"" canned beans. He remarked, ""This tastes like cafeteria food"" which was right on the money. However, the service was very good, and our waiter was nice and helpful. The margaritas are also very good. When I told the waiter about my disappointment with my meal when he asked how everything was, he took it off of the check when I didn't even ask him to, which I thought was appropriate. Overall, I would commend this restaurant on its service and lively atmosphere, but if you want a good meal, you're better off going somewhere else. Pros: Good service Cons: NASTY food more

Best Brunch 4/8/2008

I had a very small wedding and had the reception during brunch and just rented out the patio. This was the most amazing brunch I could of ever imagined and all my guests were very happy and impressed. This is hands down the best place to go for brunch in Dallas while still being a pretty un-pretentious. My suggestion is to go when they open to get better and faster service. Pros: Great food and atmosphere, Cons: Don't expect anything to happen fast, tons of people more

The most AMAZING Brunch I have ever been to! EVER! 12/19/2007

This is a must go! First I have to say that this is the freshest, most flavorful brunch I have ever been to. I generally do not go to buffets, so take this endorsement to heart. I am a foodie!!!! I started with Two Chicken Jalapeno and Two Pork Tamales with Tomatillo and Chile Con Carne sauces. I then moved to a combo of BEEF and CHICKEN FAJITAS with Grilled with onions and sweet peppers, they were so moist and tender it was a mouth watering bite! Then I went a little crazy?.They had enchiladas, that were perfectly seasoned, huge platters of fruit and cheeses , a OMLETT BAR with a omelet chef cooking them to order, the taquitos were constantly being filled because they were so crispy and tasty they were flying off the banquet table, the food went on and on?.. as I sat in this unique and festive atmosphere of lush patios and fountains in a ranch-like setting it contributed to the enjoyment I had people watching as I feasted while the very attentive wait staff kept my glasses of champagne and tea full as I waited for my brunch to settle for the BEST part?. THE CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN!!!! YES A CHOCOLATE fountain that a gal dips and drenches big fresh strawberries, sweet pineapple and other delectable fruits of the season. Finished off with a steaming cup of coffee, I now know why they have received so many awards, from so many people and have opened another banquet facility room across the parking lot to accommodate the many many wedding parties and family or company functions and celebrations they host throughout the year! My hat off to you and TEN stars if they had that many on this page, they would all be yours! Pros: The VERY best Brunch in the Metroplex!!!!!!!!!! Cons: none! Not one bad thing... really! more

Chile relleno 9/18/2007

When I was there last week, the beef chile relleno had a nice crispy crust -- at least around the edges. When this dish is good here, it is really good more
