Mattevi Martial Arts

If your looking for a place to learn martial arts this is the place! Luck was on our side the day that we walked throught the doors of Mattevi Martial Arts Academy five years ago. We soon realized that we stumbled upon one of the greatest instructors in the country! Our son started at the age of five (now a black belt at 10) with our two daughters on the way to becoming blackbelts. This has provided our children some of the best life lessons that every parent would hope for. They have learned the importance of respect, manners, self discipline and how to help others in need. The studio is a clean, safe, and very respectful environment for learning. My husband was so impressed with the Mattevi's that he joined and became a blackbelt at the age of 44. So it's never to late to learn from one of the best! We are blessed to have had the opportunity to train with the Mattevi's. more

The Mattevi's began sharing their passion for the martial arts with our family in 1996, when my oldest was in 1st grade. I truly believe their program is something of great value. The discipline, values, self esteem, and integrity they instill in their students is what the world sorely needs more of. Both of our kids went on to eventually earn their black belts. Our oldest is now a senior in college and his younger brother is a senior in high school. I know it has helped our entire family in many ways. I was so impressed with the program that I began training with Master Mattevi many years later after my kids were almost adults. While his credentials are truly impressive ( Karate Hall of Fame and a 7th degree Black Belt) what is even more impressive to me is the type of person he is and what you will learn from a truly gifted teacher. more

For once I was blind; now I see. I was trained by and taught with Master Mattevi for six years. Master Mattevi is one of the greatest men I've ever known. Do yourself a favor and get to know him through his academy. You will learn a lot about yourself, and through that, you will become a martial artist. \r \r more

My son and I joined Mattevi Martial Arts Academy in 2000 and we both went on to achieve black belt status. The atmosphere was always that of sincere respect, friendship, caring, and discipline. Not many mother are required to call their 10 yr old sons ""sir."" It was a great place for anyone to learn from competitive athletes to those new to physical activity. It was a safe environment that provided opportunities for all levels. The value of family and friends was always evident at the school. I miss the Mattevi's and wish them the very best in NC. more

We have trained with the Mattevi's since 1997 in MN, and now wish them well in their new N. Carolina home. Each member of our family took karate lessons...3 sons, 1 daughter and eventually father and mother too ! (We, the parents, found that what was good for our kids, was good for us too...i.e. added self-confidence, etc.) Our two youngest sons began lessons in the 1st and 3rd grade...progressing to black belt at ages 13 and 15. Each of our children learned to 'listen with their eyes as well as their ears'...i.e. watch/pay attention to the teacher. The use of manners...""yes sir"" and please/thank you are used in classes...and help young people to use the same good manners in other settings. In addition, the positive respectful environment is not easily found elsewhere...and is a positive force for wanting to do well. The Character Development found at this school...of honesty, respect, trying your best, applauding fellow students efforts, etc., ect. - is Priceless ! more

What began as a place for our two sons to learn Karate, is now a home away from home. I have been truly blessed by Master Mattevi's Wellness coaching and by the Fit to Defend classes and my husband has begun his lifelong desire to learn Jui Jitsu. You will feel welcomed from the first moment you step through the door and you will leave a better person for having spent time with the Mattevi's. Hands down, you will NOT find service of this calliber anywhere else! more

Really, now, I rate Mattevi Martial Arts ten out of five, which is above and beyond what I am allowed to rate. This is because the Mattevis go above and beyond every day to teach, build up and support their students through martial arts. The Mattevis do an excellent job teaching traditional martial arts. More importantly, they teach honor, respect, self-control, and many other things that can all be summed up in the word ""character."" What they do is truly a beautiful art. My 9-year old son started training under Master Mattevi when the school first opened, in January. I compared several different schools and teaching styles. In my opinion, Master Mattevi is doing an outstanding job of combining traditional and modern in his teachings, and the kids love it. My son is learning how to be more organized, is respectful and responsible. He enjoys the lessons and can't wait to go. The class schedules are convenient, Master Mattevi offers 4 classes a week, making it convenient to juggle a busy schedule. In short, Master Mattevi is a true professional and it shows in the quality of his teaching. I'm very happy to have found his school. more

Our boys had been asking for a long time to take karate. So when Mattevi's Martial arts opened up literally down the street, we took them to the free discovery class. You couldn't wipe the smiles from their faces if you tried! Almost 6 months later, you still can't; and they go 4 days a week. The flexible schedule and class times is worth the little extra you pay compared to other places in town. I cannot express how their will to be more active, respectful, responsible, and organized has impacted their everyday lives. Master Mattevi teaches the kids in a fun, playful way yet still can demand respect and discipline them. We couldn't be more happy with what he has done for our boys! As for yourself.... take the kickboxing/fit to defend classes! It is so much fun, such a great workout, as well as defense knowledge. Mattevi Martial Arts is so worth our time and money! more

Our child was begging to learn karate, so we enrolled him with Mattevi Martial Arts. It has been a fantastic experience. The child is learning movement, control, and discipline, and Master Mattevi is a patient but firm instructor. A terrific combination. We have been very happy with our experience at Mattevi Martial Arts, and the child is in karate heaven. more

OMG! The team at Mattevi Martial Arts has the best instructors ever. I mean it! They are Patient and knowledgeable. Everyone is so kind & really knows martial arts. I loved my experience with Master Gary Mattevi and his wife. I was truly impressed. I would recommend everyone to take a karate class with Mattevi Martial Arts. more
