Best food in town 7/7/2011

Best food in town Food is amazing. Every time I come here, I feel like I never want to leave. Very chic atmosphere with a relaxing mood. The service is great and the staff really does a terrific job at taking care of you. The appetizers are delicious. Theres plenty of places to park: theres a parking lot across the street and a parkin garage up the street within walking distance. Most of the time I find myself looking at my watch waiting for the food to come, but here I was so entertained with the fun atmosphere that I was pleasantly surprised when my food arrived more

Sushi on the Boulavard! 3/18/2010

I love this place, I drive there all the time from Sherman Oaks to get my fill. The Sushi is always fresh, they change their oil daily so their tempura is made to order and clean and light. And I love the seared blackened tuna, it is always a hit! Keep up the good food guys! Pros: Have their own parking lot more

Great sushi and excellent service 12/25/2009

This is a family owned sushi restaurant, with traditional Japanese sushi rolls and a mix of fusion/new sushi rolls (like their Superstar Roll, Studio City Roll) so you get a variety of selections to satisfy your sushi craving. They have good prices(unlike some of the other places on the block), excellent service, and one of the best / original tasting sushi in LA. Pros: Special rolls, Good prices, excellent service Cons: parking - if it is on a crowded night more

TASTELESS and EXPENSIVE 6/24/2009

I was very excited to try this highly recommended restaurant. I was deeply disappointed when my rolls were tasteless. To make them edible, I asked for spicy mayo and eel sauce which did NOT help. Then, they had the nerve to charge me for the sauces. Terrible! Very disappointed! Pros: Very disappointing! Cons: Charged for a side of sauce!!! more

Really great dining experience! 12/20/2008

MATSUDA! This restaurant has had the same owner for a decade. The food is truly fantastic, the flavors and special recipes are my favorite. I recommend the Fried onion Albacore Sashimi, Tuna tartar, Citrus Halibut Carpaccio, Spicy Tuna Biscuit, Studio City Roll, Superstar Roll. Chef's special is 3 pieces of sushi a la carte, chosen from the catch of the day. Fresh. The wait staff is very attentive too.\r Try everything from the specials. more

Simply the best sushi and sashimi 7/10/2008

When you step into Matsuda you are greeted with warmth. This is a family owned joint with simple yet, satisfying and truly delicious food. I always start with Tuna, albacore and taco sashimi and end with the Spider roll. The ambiance is relaxing, the food is top notch and I will always go to Matsuda over anything else on the Blvd. Fresh fish, delicious rolls and great specials (shishito peppers) Tuna tartar, spicy tuna biscuit, crunchy albacore roll! Pros: Delicious food, great menu, Japanese owned more

AMazing and Incredible Food and Service!!!!!!!!! a must have! 6/17/2008

This is one of the best family owned restaurants in the area. Amazing fresh fish that melts in your mouth and delicious specials like Tuna tartar which is fresh diced tuna with sliced avacados and thinly sliced jalapenos on a beautifully decorated plate! The albacore sashimi and uni with a shiso leaf and a squirt of lemon is to die for. I love this place and I love the service! Hands down the best place in town. Delicious!!!!!!!! Pros: Fresh fish, delicious specials, friendly staff more

Not as great as advertised by others. 6/5/2008

So I went here after reading the glowing reviews by others. Boy, was I disappointed. Maybe because we went for lunch, but that really shouldn't matter.\r Their special of the day, Bluefin Tuna, was unavailable until dinner. The fish i did get was OK, ordering on not so OK.\r The best thing I had was a Spanish Mackeral salad that I had to tell the chef how to make. Ironic, don't you think? The albacore sashimi was bland. Maybe because the Ponzu sauce had little to no flavor.\r The Uni, Sea Urchin for you newbies, was bad. Nothing worse in the sushi world than bad Uni!!!\r The WAY overpriced Toro was nothing to write home about either.\r All in all, I think the people that think this is the ""Best sushi on town"" need to get out more.\r I prefer Kushiyu in Encino or Banzai in Calabasas over this place any day!!!!\r Needless to say, I was very disappointed and WAY lighter in the wallet for my trouble.\r \r I would go to any of the other sushi bars on the street before setting foot in this place again. Pros: I found street parking. Cons: I ate and paid for the food. more

Hands down the best sushi in or around LA. 1/28/2007

Well I have been hesitant to right this over the past FEW YEARS LOL. Because, I consider this place to be a BIG LA secret. But it seems the word has gotten out to how good it is so here is my review. \r \r Unlike other sushi restaurants Matsudo never has a bad night, the sushi is always top notch. The sushi chef's are incredible and friendly, if your extremely lucky you will go on a night Hiro the owner is behind the counter but it?s not necessary. The staff is very friendly to everyone, and it is a no frills location, which is great. Sure the-hump is also excellent but its entirely different, the-hump is more about the atmosphere, I prefer Matsudo. It's not to pricey more expensive then some less expensive then others. Ninety Nine percent of the staff are Japanese, which in my opinion is a must as who knows sushi better. Saturday nights it has been very busy as of late. Seems like things can't stay secret forever, I?m willing to bet if the customers weren't so protective of this little haunt their would be MANY more reviews on the web. I was there last night and I'm tying myself home tonight, or else I?ll be there again. Definitely the best sushi in LA. Pros: Incredible Sushi, Great Service. more

just perfect 10/25/2006

there is a reason matsuda does not have one negative review. this place is fantastic. the sushi is fresh and inventive, the owners are gracious, and the wait staff and chefs are friendly as can be. its a very well kept secret, which is part of the charm. now there is valet parking nearly every night, too. one time we were overcharged and they called us at home later and told us we had credit waiting there for us. we go just about every week and all other sushi places pale in comparison. its less pricey than most, as well. excellent excellent. Pros: perfect sushi, great value, gracious staff Cons: parking more

authentic japanese food from the heart! 7/1/2006

matsuda's is an authentic japanese restaurant. it's japanese owned and employed by japanese sushi chefs. when i look for japanese food or sushi i want it from people who know it from the heart and from growing up at home with their mother or father's home cooking. i myself am from a japanese american home and everything we ate was japanese or japanese influenced. matsuda's brings me back! the best sushi i've tasted so far since i've been in LA! Pros: japanese owned, authentic, reasonably priced Cons: not much parking but not hard to find more

Great lunch spot 5/3/2006

Good sushi, quality fish. Try the Spicy Tuna Bowl for lunch, good amount of food for under $12. more

The best in los angeles 12/12/2005

I grew up in L.A. and have been to tons of sushi places. This is by far the best. The staff is awesome, the fish is always fresh and you get 8 pieces(instead of 6) with each roll, at very good prices. Parking can be a pain but its well worth the hassle. more

Fresh Food, Reasonably Priced, Large Quantity 9/26/2005

enormous servings; tasty food with/without sauces; high turnover in staff effect quality (cleanliness/taste/presentation) of food; ask Chef Ryota to customize your meals Pros: large quantity, fresh food, tasty & juicy Cons: lunch: 2 parkg spaces, nice, eccentric owners, small facility more

GREAT sushi!! 9/26/2005

My favorite is the tempura combination. Not only do they have the shrimp and vegetable tempura, but they also have seafood like white fish and such; very tender and crispy... yumm (^_^) It's really worth it. Not to forget their sushi is AWSOME as well. Friendly staff, great food and service, good atmosphere and parking. Although it's a bit expensive, it's definitely one of my favorite restaurants. Pros: great food, friendly staff Cons: bit pricey more

AMAZING AMAZING sushi 6/12/2005

I almost don't want to write this glowing review because Matsuda is one of LA's best kept secrets!!! The fish is so unbelievably fresh and delicious that any sashimi dish is just to die for. The rolls are excellent as well, and the friendly atmosphere makes Matsuda a fantastic casual neighborhood sushi spot. Overall, a delicious and incredible dining experience!!! Pros: amazing sashimi, fabulous rolls, friendly atmosphere more

excellent!!! 8/27/2004

I've been a sushi-lover for a quite-a-while, but I haven't found any restaurant as good as Matsuda in this area. Best service, waitresses are so nice and sushi chef will make anything you request...even something special just for you with a smile, which is hard to find at any restaurants nowadays. They won't chage you for anything pity like extra ginger, sauce, etc, which is sooooo rare at any sushi restaurants. Well, I highly recommend this place for families, couples, at any occasion, because I am very sure that you would be satisfied at the end of the visit at Matsuda!!! Pros: Excellent service, fresh food more

Wow 3/9/2004

Went to Matsuda for the first time a week ago. One of the best sushi experiences I've had in L.A., and I go out for sushi once or twice a week. We were seated at the bar almost immediately, the service was great and the albacore practically melts in your mouth. The only bad thing about this restaurant is that the parking lot is tiny and they don't valet. We tried to go last night, but opted to pass because we couldn't find a parking spot. Very sad. Pros: Fresh, Delicious, Affordable Cons: , Small Space more

I work often at a nearby studio and I went many times to Matsuda for lunch with colleagues. This is a wonderful place. The service is extremely friendly and quick if you need it, the fish always fresh and the portions bigger than other places. I would highly recommend it! more

Favorite neighborhood restaraunt 1/23/2003

Before moving to LA, I never would have guessed that my favorite neighborhood haunt would be a sushi restaraunt, but the staff at Matsuda sees me on a weekly basis. more
