After the snooty looks I received at my first -- and last -- visit to Matinas, I thought it was me, but it sounds like this treatment is par for the course. I thought I'd stop in because I heard they carried a lot of big name designers but the fake smile, following by the snooty look or two I got from the dark haired woman who was working there made me feel so uncomfortable that I didn't even try anything on. We live in upstate New York and were in town for a friends birthday/family reunion and my mom and sisters went to Matinas store to look at dresses for my upcoming wedding. The staff was snarly, the dresses were pricey, the selection was poor. We left and went to Legacy on Cedar where there is a first class shop call Demetrios. We purchased all of our dresses there in less than 2 hours. Matinas really helps their competition. I agree with the rest of the reviewers. My daughter made a rather handsome deposit on a dress here and we did not receive the dress until only a few days before the wedding. We had to have it re-altered the day before the wedding because it did not fit correctly and the owners were hateful to us about the lateness, as if it were our fault. Then, they didn't even have a bag for the dress. And we had to pay extra to have it altered in a rush. My daughter cried and cried and was panicked for days before the wedding. What was supposed to be a happy time was filled with storm and stress due to this place. I appears that we are not alone. I stopped into Matinas dress shop last week, quite by mistake, as I was shopping in town from Florida and didn't know about this place. I am looking for high end dresses for myself, mom and my bridal party. I feel compelled to add my opinion to this site, only because I was quite surprised by the attitude of the people who work and shop there. I had to leave rather rapidly, after a quick perusal, as I felt most uncomfortable. Very strange energy level in that place. I did not want to purchase my dress there. Very odd vibes. First off I bought a beautiful Reem Acra gown at half the price and purchased all of my bridesmaids there too. The service was wonderful they catered to my every needs both Lily and Mira were accomodating to me and my girlfriends. If you want to find a cheap priceless dress then no you shouldnt go there. It is an upscale boutique which it seems like most people on this site dont know what that is. There is no reason to attack someones character if you cannot spend that kind of money then go to davids sale for $99.00. To sum up my review I was a satisfied customer! Yes girls - we agree! The folks at this shop are insincere. We know a fake smile when we see one and they are aplenty at this establishment. Best to avoid this place and head to genuine people. my sister and I went to Matinas to look for wedding dresses and the owners, Mira and Lilly were so mean and rude to us. They acted as if we were bothering them, were impatient with their own employees and kept looking at their watches while we were there. We felt so uncomfortable that we left and went to Dimietrius at Legacy on Cedar. Please take heed and stay away from these unhappy ladies. Pros: none that we could see Cons: unkind shop owners more

I have to say that I am very surprised and confused by reading the previous reviews. My first experience at this store was as a bridesmaid a few years back. I knew that when it was my time to chose a dress that it would come from Matina's. I purchased my wedding gown last month from Matina's and just ordered the bridesmaid dresses this past week. I have had nothing less than a pleasant experience each time I visited the store. I had a hard time deciding between two gowns so I went to the store multiple times to try them on. It was difficult to make a decision, but the ladies treated me as if I was their daughter. Each time the ladies there were extremely patient and helpful, especially the owner. She even pulled strings to get a dress for me that wasn't in the store. Overall, I had nothing but a great experience at Matina's and don't agree with the other reviews! I would highly recommend Matina's for exclusive gowns and excellent service! more

My mother and I visited every bridal store in Ohio. There are many choices in this state, however we decided upon Matina's because it was fairly close to our home. The selection is fine although a bit on the higher end, but well worth it for the special day. The staff was accomodating and knowledgable. The second time we went in to look at our remaining choices, the owner was on site for a few brief moments and didn't even speak to us, and in fact gave us a look of irritation. When we went in for the fitting, my mom and I experienced the same thing. The owner bustled by and looked at us as if we didn't belong there. With all of the choices out there, one would expect the owner, of all people to be gracious, friendly, welcoming and warm. Thankfully she has a staff of sweet women to make up for her lack of professionalism. Be sure not to allow the owner to assist you. She seems rather full of herself for some unkown reason. Other than that, it was quite a lovely experience. more

I did not purc hase my wedding dress at Matina's (I recommend Bride's by the Falls--formerly Bride's by Donna, for this), but we did purchase 8 costly bridesmaids gowns from them. Once the dresses were purchased, they were rude and unhelpful, particularly to one larger out-of-town bridesmaid who was having difficulty fitting her dress. These women should take a cue from these reviews and refine their customer service skills so that they better reflect their product. Pros: Excellent selection Cons: Terrible customer service more

I stepped in to Matinas salon several months ago and met two of the nicest ladies, Jo and Marilyn. They helped me with my wedding dress selection. On the few occasions when I came back in, the owner was so surley and arrogant. I don't know how those nice people work there? I decided not to buy my dress there for fear of having to deal with the snippity owner. Too bad, nice dresses, nice salespeople, not so nice owner. more

I completely agree with the other poster- The bridal salon is wonderful (albeit a bit full of themselves) until final sale. Though it is my personal belief that you cannot put a price on what you will wear for the most important day of your life- you should expect to pay ALOT for a gown at Matina's. That said- you would expect nothing less than excellent service- something Matina's lacks. Beautiful gowns, lovely accessories- terrible service once you have signed your name to that check. I recently got married and I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful experience. I was treated like such a lady and as though my wedding really mattered to them. The sales staff was so knowledgeable and easy to work with. Alterations for myself and my bridesmaids were excellent. Their prices were also much less than other stores. If your getting married Matina's should be your one and only stop. more

After a few horrible dress-shopping experiences, I was thrilled to find Marilyn at Matina's - unlike the time-wasters at other shops, she listened to me, helped me select 8 fantastic dresses to try on (they all flattered me and were exactly what I wanted, style-wise), and (along with Lilly and the others) suggested dynamite accessories/hairstyles. I owe them credit for my complete wedding look, which I loved. HOWEVER, in the last few days they really let me down. First, they did a regular bustle instead of French, as we had agreed (ok, my fault for not noticing DURING the final fitting, instead waking up in a fit at 4 am the day before the wedding, having realized the bustle had been wrong!) I could not get hold of them all that day, and finally on Saturday (wedding day) they agreed to change the bustle. However, since I was already downtown and could not come back to try it on again, they did it on a mannequin and made it too long (kept stepping on it while dancing!) The thing that really irked me, though, was the fact that they were extremely rude both to the friend who picked up the dress the day of, and my mother several times in connection with her attempts to use their cleaning/preservation service afterwards. It seems like once they had collected the final payment, the outstanding service trailed off. I still am so thankful for their input and my entourage always had fun there during the selection and fitting process, but the rudeness at the end left a really sour taste in my mouth. Matinas has been known for years as a very upscale east-side bridal shop. Its newest location on Chagrin Boulevard in Beachwood does not disappoint. Plush carpet, well-placed mirrors, and incredibly knowledgable, helpful, and discreet staff complement the exquisite selection of gown and accessories by designers like Vera Wang, Reem Acra, and Amsale. more

This bridal salon is one where the serious bride shops. It is a very stuffy atmosphere, and the staff seemed none-too-thrilled to talk to someone who had walked in to look around. You must have an appointment to try on gowns, and be prepared to spend quite a bit of money. To be fair, the gowns are very high quality and are boutique labels. Some are simply stunning. Unfortunately, I didn't believe that dealing with the snobbish staff was worth making an appointment and trying on dresses there. Looking for a gown should be a joyous and fun experience, which I found at other places. more
