Masterson Animal Clinic

I am on my way to bring one of my cats, who was MIA for 12 days.....looks like his tail will need to be amputated. 6 years ago, this same cat was as close to death as he could be. The veterinarians at Masterson Animal Clinic saved his life when it really was most likely impossible. My father (deceased) was a small animal vet for over 50 years and was considered one of the VERY BEST by 1,000s of people. I can say without a doubt, that if my Dad was still with us, he would be at the Masterson Clinic. They are THAT GOOD. Both of my cats are still alive because of the amazing care they have received here. more

These guys have been great with our cats. They will often call to follow up and make sure that they are doing ok if they've been sick. I have taken my large breed dog to this clinic for almost 3 years. They have vet services, bathing, and boarding all on-site. The staff is very friendly. A few of them recognize my dog by sight, and have even called to her from the parking lot as we are pulling in. They are so caring, when my friend's dog passed away, they made a home visit to help her determine how to lay the dog to rest. I have been very pleased! I took my girlfriend's dog there, and while I was there there was rude debate over taking a stray. I understand that it is a burden to take stays, but the situation put a bitter taste in my mouth. Other than that, I just didn't like that there was no one to greet me when I walked in, however there is typically someone there within minutes of the doorbell chiming. Thought the doctor gave out a wealth of information, but tries to use a lot of doctor jargon, and technical names for problems, while laymans terms would have been fine. Overall, I think the healthcare is good, he pushed a LOT of products at me that would benefit her dog. I know that he was not participating in the buy 6 frontlines and get 1 free. Nor were there any other programs to bring prices to a competitive level. I have been spoiled by some Richmond Vets, and I think I will continue to make the drive even if it is not my dog. Just think the atmosphere, and price difference makes up for the cost of driving between Lexington and Richmond. So, if I had to, I might consider using him again, I just know I liked it better when Dr. Jodi was there. Pros: Dr. provides a lot of information, and high tech offices Cons: staff not eager to greet, and a rude atmosphere. more

My animals love going to see the Drs. at this facility. They staff is warm and caring. They are friendly to the animals as well as the owners. The on-site boarding facility makes it convenient for boarding and making sure your pet is well taken care of. Pros: Caring, Knowledgeable staff Cons: irregular hours more

Also I have friends that have been yelled at because they told the assistant how much they had, and were yelled at by the doctor when the doctor went ahead and did a bunch of tests.\r \r Also if you saw on the news, the Masterson Animal Clinic was the site of a carbon monoxide scare during the recent winter storm for running a generator in a basement.\r \r With the pushy/angry attitude, and a big mishap, which maybe this is just the first, like the silent killer, I would not trust to leave my pooches with them again.\r \r Prices aren't as outrageous as other places per item, but the sell to get you to purchase everything is a big downturn. Also the *bedside manner* of the main doctor is less than satisfactory. Over explaining, and demeaning some times. Sure I can get an earful of big words and have him act better than me, but that is all taken care of in the end because I just will not go back. End of story. \r \r Wonder what they will end up on the news for in the future? Pros: throurough sounding checkup. Cons: tests are all done outside of clinic so all the results are slowish. No one to greet you till they hear the doorbell ring. more
