MaryAlice Cowan, MD

I was recommended to try Dr.Cowan by a friend, and she has turned out to be the best OB/GYN ever! She provides exceptional care, time, and has a very nice bedside manner. Her assistants Theresa and Tina are also great to work with. She caught gestational diabetes early enough for my pregnancy that I was able to handle it well, and she has been very attentive at every appointment to make sure nothing has changed. I am looking forward to using her as my permanent OB/GYN after we have our little girl this month. Yes, sometimes the wait may take a little while, but this is because Dr.Cowan cares about her patients and if one is in labor, she makes sure she is there to check on them. I dont mind waiting, her waiting area is very nice and has a play area for children. I recommend her ! more

I have been with Dr. Cowan for about 4 years now. She took great care of me during my high risk pregnancy and helped me deliver a healthy baby girl. Even though I have moved 30 minutes away from her office, I refuse to go to any other doctor because it is hard to find a great doctor...even if the receptionist isn't as friendly and readily available as one would like, Dr. Cowan is warm, down to earth, patient, understanding, and caring. She is now taking care of me during my second pregnancy! more

I have been a patient of Dr. Cowan's for about 5 years now. While I was pregnant with my son I was on hospital bedrest for 8 weeks. She visited me daily and stayed in my room to chat much longer than she needed to. She helped me stay positive while I was in the hospital and then delivered my baby when he was ready to be born! I will always be thankful to her! more

While Dr. Cowan may be great, I never got the chance to see her. Granted, I was late to my appointment, but I still ended up waiting an hour and a half - with my 9 month old daughter in a stroller. The office was not busy. I don't understand. I had no other choice but to walk out. Her receptionist Toni... First off, to get anyone even on the phone you have to leave a message. Then Toni will call you back at her convenience. This should have been my first clue. It took several phone tags to get an appointment. It's sad because apparently, Dr. Cowan is great. I was very disappointed. more

Dr Cowan has been my doctor for 7 years. When I was single she had great advice and was always willing to listen no matter how full her waiting room was. She was recommended to me by a friend who had used her since she was 20. Later I found that many of my coworkers (all healthcare professionals) also used her and loved her. more

I am a long-time patient of Dr. Cowan. She is so caring, thoughtful, and kind. She has delivered both of my children and her genuine warmth and friendliness has made a lasting impression on our family. I believe you will not find a better medical professional for women anywhere. Dr. Cowan's authentic care puts you at ease, she is thourough in every detail, and you are never rushed. Her staff is exceptional. The front desk has been accomodating in every manner of scheduling. You are greeted friendly and professionally. My many thanks to Dr. Cowan and her awesome staff. Dr. Cowan is a really attentive physician. She has been my sister's doctor for yeas to and recently I finally got in to see her. She has been really caring and understanding about my struggles with infertility and I feel very comfortable talking with her. It also means a lot to me that she asks about my nephew by name each time I come in. (She delivered him almost a year ago) She really has a warm manner about her and I never feel rushed for time. The only negative thing I have to say is that the woman who works at the front desk is extremely rude. When I call in, I feel like I'm bothering her for wanting to make an appointment. When I'm there and I'm ready to check out and make my next appointment. She scowls at me while she finishes her personal phone call. I can't believe that Dr. Cowan keeps her on staff, but who knows what the situation is there. Anyhow, she is the only flaw in a very highly recommended practice. Her nurses are excellent and always call and follow up. They are all very friendly. Overall, I would strongly recommend Dr. Cowan to anyone who is looking for a new OBGyn. I have known Mary Alice Cowan for over 20 years. I babysat her kids, was a friend for years, and then she became my gynecologist when my insurance carrier finally included her. As you might imagine, I felt just a tad squeamish knowing her for so long and then having her as my gyno. Well, I had nothing to worry about. She was SO PROFESSIONAL and SO CARING that she put me right at ease. She spends as much time with you as you need to feel comfortable and secure and she is the most compassionate, caring physician I have ever known. I have recommended her to my friends and they have thanked me profusely for it. She has even called me at home to check on my progress to see how I was feeling, and sat with me when I was in the hospital. She consistently goes above and beyond her required responsibilities to the patient making her the best , most quality physician anyone could ever hope to have. A fun sideline: when you lie back on the examination table, there is a poster of a smiling George Clooney and other ""hunks"" to enjoy while you are waiting! Dr Cowan is what I would call the best of the best. She is knowledgeable and always...always has her patient's best interests in mind when making suggestions/decisions regarding care and treatments. I have been a patient for 20 years now and I feel like I am the lucky one. When I got pregnant 9 years ago I asked my friend who works in labor and delivery at Texas Women's to tell me who she would use. I knew she saw the doctors behind the scenes and not just the face they may put on for patients. She recommended Dr. Cowan and I am so thankful! Dr. Cowan helped me through a very difficult pregnancy. She was patient and kind and very personable!! She always made me feel at ease!! If I were to see her on the street today she would know who I was, remember all the details of my pregnancy, and could probably remember my children's names. You don't see that with doctors much! I still travel from Baytown every year to see her and don't plan to ever change that!! more

I have been a patient of Dr. Cowan's for more than 4 years now. I have moved and now live one hour away from her office and I still drive that hour for my OB GYN visits. She's worth it. She delivered both of my children. I feel very comfortable with her and trust her completely. I have never met another doctor who has cared so much. She is kind, soft spoken and takes her time with her patients. She makes sure all questions are answered. She has a huge heart and a real passion for what she does. Pros: Very Knowledgeable, caring and patient Cons: Waiting room time may be long at times but it's because something has happened and she is giving her attention to the woman in need. My experience with Dr Cowan was very good. I was not her patient, but wish I had been. Her clients always rave about her and she delivered my first child. It was a very positive experience for me.
