Best

This has been my favorite restaurant in Salt Lake for years. The food is excellent...always. I always trust any recommendation from the servers (love Linda). This is my choice ...

Worst

Two weeks ago, my husband and I as well as some guests from Park City, visited Martine's with high hopes as well as good recommendations from friends. Very, very disappointing. We...

Best kept secret 7/30/2003

UPDATE: THIS PLACE HAS CHANGED!!! i CANNOT BELIEVE IT IS THE SAME PLACE SUCKED BOTH TIMES THIS SUMMER FORGET THIS PLACE!!! KEEP IT A SECRET!!! This is one of Utah's best kept secrets. It is never busy, or so it seems. I have only had one dish I didn't like in all my visits, The waitstaff is generally decent. The wine list is good for a small list. Great desserts. The only catch is that the small dishes are not Tapas, that is insulting to Martine's chef as well as to real Tapas Pros: inventive dishes Cons: some dishes flop, noisy, RUDE servers more

Eurostyle or Eurotrash? 7/26/2003

Here lies a formerly good restaurant, done in by a cavalier attitude and absentee management. From a favorite to a place to avoid, each time was progressively worse. I hope that the management takes steps to restore the former glory. Please get rid of the Eurostyle rude waitstaff and employ a pleasant hostess as the first step, then do something about the amazingly inconsistant food quality. Too Bad. Pros: Nice ambiance, formerly good and, formerly reliable Cons: poor and rude servers, uneven food, general decline more

Odds are... 6/5/2003

This place was good 4 out of 4 times now it is bad 3 out of 4 times. The menu items are attractive but lately haven't been as good as the description. I may go there alone but I refuse to embarass myself by bringing guests or recommending the place. Too bad, they have just become much more popular than in the past - oh the price of success. Pros: great sounding dishes, was good Cons: no parking, spotty in quality, now crowded more

Yummy!! 2/14/2003

This is a great place. The building is fabulous and the decor is outstanding. The menu items for Tapa's and the dinner selections are unbelievable (very eclectic and creative). Our waitstaff was attentive and the limited wine list had some great Spanish selections that I have never seen before (you should give the Rioja a try). Pros: Imaginative, Romantic more

Defintely an impressive restaurant! 1/8/2003

My boyfriend took me to Martine for my birthday a few weeks ago, and it was a fabulous evening. I love the marinated olives that you start with. They are a perfect beginning to a memorable meal. The prices are reasonable, the tapas was excellent, and the portions were perfect. I had the lamb, and it was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Definitely a must try. The next time I want a romantic night out and fabulous cuisine, I will be visiting Martine. Pros: Romantic Ambience, Reasonable Prices, Great Service Cons: Parking more

Great food 1/1/2003

We went for dinner on New Years Eve. The place was busy, but we were seated right away. The food was very flavorful and nicely presented. The atmosphere was relaxed, even though most people were dressed up for the night. The low lighting and candlelight was romantic. The service was good, and our waitress even brought us glasses of wine after our near emplty wine bottle fell off the table. Parking was a problem and the bill totalled almost 150.00, but for a nice night out, I would highly recommend this restaurant Pros: food, location/building, sevice Cons: parking, expensive more

Great place to escape 12/20/2002

Went for a romantic dinner, and wasn't disappointed. The Tapas were very interesting, along with the soup and main course. Everything was excellent! Nice to try something different than the 'cookie cutter' restaurants. Pros: quiet, romantic, staff Cons: parking more

Absolut Charming! 11/5/2002

I love Martine Restaurant. In the first two weeks of moving to Salt Lake, I went twice. The food is great, so is the embiance as well as the service. I definetly recommend it!! Pros: food, relatively cheap, embiance Cons: parking more

Best Tapa's I've ever had 7/30/2002

Had dinner there last Sat. evening for the first time. Place is pretty empty at 7:00 but picks up later. The service was very attentive and friendly and I've gotta admit that I thought I did a pretty decent job of making tapas ... this place puts mine to shame. Dinner was excellent and the duck I had was wonderful and plentiful. The next time I think I'll just pig out on tapas. The only suggestion I would give is that Martine increas the number and variety of the wine selection. Especially the Spanish Sherry's. With drinks, tapas, and food it came to about $50/head ... not bad and it's worth it. Stayed until about 10:00 and got no hassle. Pros: Great Ambience, Good, friendly servic, Great tapas Cons: Better wine list more

Uh-Oh..Things are getting spotty.. 7/16/2002

First off, i have been a big supported of this restaurant for over two years. The last two time i have been (most recently 1 week ago), i see a downward spiral. First off even on a Friday night at 7:30 the tables are not full. There is usually one waiter per side and this can result in slowness even without a packed house. The dishes themselves are in need of a major retrofit, since you see the same items over and over. In addition, staples that i have likes like the asparagus/crab are coming out cold and bitter in some cases. The owner/chef according to the waitress is generally absent, i am not suprised things have taken a downturn. will not be back for a while to see if things improve..sad. Pros: awesome decor, no res. required Cons: parking, cold food/needs a rev, service spotty/slow more

Its a favorite 5/28/2002

Wow, can't say enough about the tapas, entrees, drinks, etc. Its a great place to eat. Upscale, but affordable. Best value. Pros: off Main St. trax more

Great atmosphere 5/14/2002

Dining in this downtown brownstone is always a treat. The lunch menu features the same delicious sandwiches and pasta dishes that are served at the Desert Edge and the former Peery Pub. The dinner menu is more upscale and rarely disappoints. Very romantic. I wish downtown had more of these little hideaways. Pros: Romantic more
