They towed my car from a private lot behind my friend's apartment building. I did not leave my car for more than 20 minutes and it was towed. Usually you can get away with 30 minutes parked in a permit-only zone, but not with these guys. When I called the number on the sign, a man picked up and told me it was going to be 150 dollars CASH, and that he could only take cash because ""the snow storm had their card system down"". I know this isn't true because every other person I have talked to who have had experiences with them have told them some lame excuse for why they take cash only. I have also read many reviews on them and they charge people different amounts, probably depending on how well business went that week. \r When I got to the towing place, the man inside was very rude and told me that I would have to wait for the man who actually towed my car to come back and file the paperwork. It does not make sense that that needed to happen, but I didn't question it. He said it would be five minutes and made me wait outside in 18 degree weather for this other guy to show up. 15 minutes later when he did, we went inside to fill out some short paperwork. I was unsure about my tab number because it is a new car, but he really didn't seem to care. I think he just needed to write something down. My friend and I expressed to them we knew very well that 150 dollars was too much money. I have never paid more than 95 dollars to retrieve my car from an impound lot, and that was when they had to hold it there for a day. My car had been in the lot for maybe 15 minutes at this point. They argued with us that they were ""just doing their job"" and told me that I could come back later and talk to the manager if I felt that the whole thing was ""unjust"", but that 150 was the set price by the city of Richmond. We felt totally helpless and used having to give them the 150 cash. There is not much you can do when they are holding your car for ransom!!!\r It is terrible that these guys have been getting away with this for several years. I am going to file a legit complaint, but I know I must not be the first person so I doubt it'll do any good. \r Property management in Richmond need to stop giving Marshall Brothers Towing business. more

I was satisfied 11/29/2010

Well, as far as the buiness aspect of the company or lack there of it was OK. They returned my calls (for the most part, after I called a few times repeatedly). However I was informed that I had 10 days to claim my car and on the 7th day when I went to get it finally, I found out it was going to be shipped off to the auction before my 10 was up. Also when I got my car all of my belongings where there, however the ONE item that my husband I an were concerned about was a CD that was in the CD player when it was towed. When I went to get my car, my key wouldn't work and the man helped me and explained to me that it just had to be reprogrammed since they had to make a spare key for it. So as I left and was sitting at the light I turned the radio on (since it was off because it automatically turns itself off when a CD is ejcted that was playing). So after I got home and my husband asked about his CD and we searched we realized it wasn't there, So the next day I called and asked the receptionist and she told me she would check and have someone call me back. Well 4 hours later I called again, then the old man got on the phone and told me that I asked him about my key working because I wanted to get the CD out of the radio. I informed him that I wanted my key to work so I could leave and it wasn't till I was at the stop light that I even messed with the CD player and radio. I informed him that normally I wouldn't care since it was just a CD however it has sentimental value to my husband and we'd really appreciate it if he could look for it like he said he would, that was about a week ago and still NOTHING!!! I'm going to visit them tomorrow because this is a crappy and pathetic way to run a business no matter what kind of business it is!!! PS They are also loacted on Roseneath... more

SCAM! 11/13/2010

Verrry rude and bad business manners. I fortunately caught up with the driver before he could tow my car too far. The driver said he accepted cash only so I had no choice but to run down 3 blocks and withdrawal cash from an ATM. My friend stayed behind with the driver and my car to wait for me. The driver proceeded to tell my friend that if I wasn't back within 5 minutes with the money he was going to tow my car. Next I come back with 140 dollars (all in 20s) asked for change and he claimed that he doesn't give change. Fortunately I was lent a 10 dollar bill and paid only 5 dollars above he towing cost. The driver failed to fill out the paper work properly, and did not even check to see if I was the real owner of the car! He could have given my 2007 Acura TL to anyone!!! On the paperwork he wrote down that I paid 130 and was owed 5 dollars. He asked me to sign it and I questioned if I was ONLY agreeing to the receipt of payment, in that I paid the company 130 dollars and was owed 5. He replied yes and I asked again to verify before I proceeded to sign. Later that night I read the release from that I signed and saw that I had actually signed a waiver that waves all liability and so on. This company needs to be taken down. more

What a bunch of scandulous crooks! 10/7/2010

If you have any sense you won't do business with this company. This company is based on stealing lying and screwing people over! They overcharge for towing fees and they pocket the money. The company is operated around the owners son who in fact doesn't even have a valid drivers lisence and can't stay out of jail for five minutes! They will destroy your car while towing and deny all! I have personally witnessed outrageous towing bills charge to compensate the company for gambling losses that they incurred. more

JERKS!!!!!!!!!!! 8/28/2010

Marshall Brothers is an awful company. I personally have never been towed by them but friends and family have. Their signs are extremely small so you can't see them unless you are looking for them. They are RUDE and only accept cash. They are criminals! A friend of mine parked in the fan last night in the same lot as 3 other friends. He was just in town for the night so he has NC plates. The NC friend parked between 2 VA friends and he was towed, no one else was towed!!!!!!! This company is full of a$$holes and they constantly threaten to call the cops. My dad laughed at them and said, ""please call them now, I want them to come here so I can tell them that I am looking at 2 criminals right now!"" Of course they didn't call the cops. I am finding where else I can post complaints about them! more

Selective jerks 5/11/2010

I've called these guys several times because there have been cars parked in visitor spots in my neighborhood for months without being moved. Marshall Brother's posts warnings on these cars, and then can't be bothered to follow up. I, on the other hand, recently got a new car and neglected to transfer my decal. I parked in a resident's spot as usual, and was rather surprised to see my car was gone. No warning, just gone. I paid for my spot, and now I have to pay the price for not being mindful of a stupid sticker. I realize this is not Marshall Brother's fault, but the one-star rating is for not following up on visitor's spots. When friends and family come to visit, they shouldn't to park on the other side of the complex just because some jerks abandoned their cars. Instead, MY money goes to keep Marshall Brother's business, not theirs. more

They Abuse the fact that you have to pay ransom for your car 4/12/2010

They threatened to call the cops on me after calmly telling them they're full of it. Pros: Enforcement of rental parking rights, which they abuse Cons: Grimy, impolite, inconsiderate cronies! more

Why shouldn't residents have a place to park? 8/5/2009

This company is not full of crooks like all the other reviews say. They are only doing a job that they are contracted to do. They are contracted to work for apartment complexes and businesses who deserve to have proper parking for their tenants and customers. For example, I pay $750/month in rent. I come home from working and there are NO places to park. Is that legit? NO WAY! These guys are only doing their job. They have set fees that are governed by the city/county they are towing in. Marshall Brother's is in line with all laws in regards to towing. And they will go out of their way to help you in anyway that they can! If you are illegaly parked, you should be towed. All of those of age to drive have well passed reading and writing! So if it says PERMIT PARKING ONLY, don't park there unless you have a permit. Then you won't have to worry about paying towing fees. And let's also discuss one more thing. $65 was the standard towing rate in 1993. Don't you think that in almost ten years time the price is ok to be at $125? They have expenses that have increased in this time too! Pros: Most HONEST company in town! more

File a complaint against this towing 'business' 3/27/2009

there is a Board of Towing within the Commonwealth of Virgina. Do a google search- once you get to the site, you will see a link to file a complaint. If the link is under construction, call their office. Pros: make them 'tow' the line Cons: they have to provide adequate customer service more

Don't trust Marshall Brothers Towing of Richmond, VA! 1/3/2009

Marshall Brothers Towing is a scheming, coniving company. Yes, we were in the wrong by parking in a no parking zone. We were illegally parked for just barely 1 hour yet we were charged $155 to retrieve our vehicle at their parking lot off of Staples Mill Road. Not only were the 3 men very unfriendly and impolite but I also got a very uneasy feeling about them. The sign on the door said we would need to pay $125 to retrieve our vehicle. Handwritten under this said it was an extra $25 ""on the weekens"" (which was misspelled to boot!) We had spoken to the employees on the phone twice and never did they mention that they only took cash. They said they were not yet set up to take credit or debit yet they were set up with an ATM. We went to a bank and came back and very unwillingly paid the $155. We were convinced the employees working tonight pocketed the extra $25 plus the extra $5 they claimed as ""fuel expenses."" I understand towing is a seedy business but there is nothing worse than knowing you are being taken yet having to pay because they are holding your car hostage! Marshall Towing consists of seedy, coniving, scheming individuals. Unfortunately, when they are holding your car there is no choice but to pay them and they very well know this! Cons: rude, coniving, dishonest more

Rude and highly immoral. 5/24/2008

I parked my car behind Five Guys / Qdoba / Ramz Hall on W.Broad, (which has 1 hour customer parking until midnight) and i look out of my friend's apartment (literally 2 feet away) at 1:26am to find an empty parking space where i parked. He and i rush outside and call the number shown in the lot. The fellow on the line was pretty helpful, and remembered which driver had it with just my mentioning the color and make, so he called the truck driver and had him come back and drop off the car. Pros: Guy on the phone was helpful Cons: Employ excrement for drivers. more

ILLEGAL ACTIONS 3/17/2008

So Marshall Bros regularly tow in our neighborhood, and tonight my roommate and I were on our porch around midngiht and saw a tow truck tow a 4x4 pickup and pull a little ways up the road and proceed to get out, jimmy the lock with a hanger, and dig through the car's floor and glove compartment. Now they've gone from towing people after 5 minutes to breaking into people's cars and looking for valuables. SKETCHY. Pros: NO PROS Cons: many cons more

Worst Case of Customer Service 2/13/2008

This towing company has a serious case of RUDE customer service. My daughter's car was towed because she forgot to put up her parking pass. When she went to get the car out of the tow lot, she questioned why it cost so much ($135). The response from the OWNER was ""young lady this is how we make our money, I'm sure you don't work and have a family to support"" she was shocked at how he was talking to her and asked me to call. I called back and his tone with me was the same. First I was told that the owner was not there, only because I asked for their business license # was the owner put on the line. His response to me was that he didn't have to give me that and I could contact their corporation if I had any complaints. When I asked what that phone number would be he said ""You're talking to the person in charge of the corporation"" He was very rude. Not only speaking to a young 19-year old lady like that, but also to someone who just wanted to know why he thinks it's o.k. to speak to anyone in this matter. I would hope that NOONE would ever use this company if they needed help. You would only get frustrated and spoken to as if nothing you have to say really matters. more

Ripoff artists & very rude 2/9/2008

This is a ripoff scam, and the agent was very rude. In addition, they charge an extra day's storage, though the car was picked up within one hour of being towed, and the guy towing was already at their office. It's a grimy place, with grimy staff who rip you off for $150 cash. Obviously they are illegally skirting the tax man by only taking cash. Pros: None -- totally rude ripoff artists Cons: I hope the IRS takes them down. more

Best example of the worst tow company 9/1/2007

Rude service is apparently the specialty of this tow company. When asked why I was towed from my job I was told to be quiet and don't argue. When I picked my car up I asked for the clerk's name who laughed at me and told me to leave. Very poor service and would recommend you avoid this company at all costs. Richmond Police have been contacted over this fifth-rate company. Cons: Had to pay more money if I wanted to pick my car up the same night it was towed so I was forced to walk home from work and pick up the next day. Unreal. more

Very rude, expensive, towed from legitimate spot and late to work 8/9/2007

These guys towed me from a legitimate spot. I went out of my way to make sure I was parked in a good spot and they towed me for no reason. They only took cash from me too and charged me a lot! I went there to pick up my car and no one was there. Though they were already supposed to be open, I had to call numerous times and wait over an hour for anyone to show up! They were extremely rude as well. This is a horrible company! Pros: Nothing! Cons: Rudeness, Not at work when supposed to be, overcharge, slimy business more

Crooks and Shysters! 8/25/2006

These clowns towed me from a lot where I had PAID to park! When I went by the impound location several times, no on was there. They only take cash (to hide the paper trail and avoid taxes). They will give no money in change, in case someone only has a $20 bill. Even though no one was there, they charge $35/day for ""storage""! Disclaimers on their building claim that they ""are not responsible for items left in the car."" Kind of funny, considering that no one can get to their car to remove items anyway- and if items WERE missing, the Marshall Brothers would be the ones who took them. The owners of this outfit should be jailed!! Cons: Everything! more
