Our dog got very sick after one day of 6/7/2012

Our dog got very sick after one day of camping and two days of running. They got him in an hour after I called. They were very good about calling and updating. They saved our furbaby. He was there for 3 days and they were so good to him. We were impressed with the cost of everything: in the $400 range. Our furbaby is still in recovery and home, but our hopes are high for him. The vet told us what they're looking for in terms of normalcy and he explained everything to make sure we understood. We have gone here since day 1 after we found him abandoned on a country road. They're awesome about reminding you for the appointments by sending cute little postcards ""speaking"" for the animals. I will keep going here as long as they're around. more

Knowledgeable and Finance Friendly 1/5/2012

My dog Pepper is 4 1/2 years old and we just moved up to the area from the twin cities. She has dealt with bouts of illness that her vet in the cities had ignored or just blamed on gas. The first time I went to Grand Ave. the vet knew there was something more seriously wrong and asked if I would like to have Pepper's blood tested. I am a student and was strapped for cash so I took the antibiotic option. When Pepper was severely ill two weeks later they insisted on a blood test which yielded a lifesaving diagnoses! Since then they have worked with me and local pharmacies to find the cheapest medication for Pepper's condition. I owe them big for saving my best friend's life! more

Many Years of Excellent Service 3/13/2011

For many yeas I have used Grand Ave Vet Clinic for a vast array of pets I have had. Over the past 10+ years I have brought them at one time or another 4 dogs, 3 cats, a rabbit, and a hedgehog. They have expertly and happily given my pets yearly physicals, shot, and the occasional needed antibiotic, teeth cleaning, spay/nueter. The prices have always been incredibly competitive, and the staff knowledgeable, and sincere. I have and will continue to use them for many years, #1 Vet in Duluth and surrounding area, hands down... more

Not So Much Cost As Attitude 3/9/2011

I have 4 dogs and a cat, all of whom visit Grand Avenue Vet. The youngest of the bunch is 6 years old. \r \r For the most part, everyone at the clinic is very personable and prices there are certainly competitive. One doctor, in particular, has an apparent attitude toward anyone concerned with cost. At this time, i'd like to state that I have spent thousands of dollars here; my pets are up to date on everything. \r \r For the last couple of years, I decided to get Heartgard through 1800petmeds. They require a prescription, which is fine, but the vet seems to think it is ok to charge me for that. Further, when i wrote a letter to him, voicing my opinion of that, I received a VERY rude letter in return. Basically, using the petmeds option places one in a subclass, as it were. It's only a few dollars. I got over it.\r \r The doctor, apparently, did not. ever since then, every time we ask the cost of a procedure, he gets very condescending, explaining how very expensive it is (30.00) and we probably won't want it. Recently, our dog had a growth on his tail and, simultaneously, a problem with his nose. This doctor told us he could do nothing for the tail, other than antibiotics, and nothing for the nose at all. Anything else would be VERY expensive (30.00/month). Turns out, the pills for his tail cleared up his nose. Lucky for him.\r \r It's just this attitude of ""I am in charge here, how dare you question me"" that I don't like. It has US shopping for another vet. Oh, to the person with the emergency visit, I've seen them do it. Where has all the customer service gone?\r \r more

Quality care at an affordable price! 5/11/2010

I think that it's absolutely ridiculous to slam a clinic because they can't give away treatments for free. Perhaps previous reviewers should have considered the fact that they couldn't afford proper medical care before taking a pet into their home.\r \r I've been taking my two kittens here since I adopted them at 8 weeks old. I've had nothing but good experiences, and it's obvious that everybody there loves what they do. It's hard to walk five feet without someone stopping and oohing and aahing and asking their names :)\r \r They are incredibly affordable (I've spent a total of maybe seventy dollars per cat for a thorough exam, two rounds of routine shots, and a rabies shot). Everybody there is extremely nice and welcoming, and the location is great. I couldn't be happier with my experience. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Pros: Very friendly and knowledgable staff, great pricing Cons: Absolutely nothing more

Be Real 3/3/2010

You blame the vet because you had no money? Do you buy gas and pay later? Groceries? How about the dentist? The hosp wouldnt treat you either if there wasnt a law. Do you know how much this clinic gives in terms of training students, free service to the animal shelter, animal allies, etc. The only reason your pet suffered is because you weren't prepared. YOU caused your pet to suffer. Get pet insurance or a credit card just for emergancies. Quit blaming everyone else. Pros: great Vets and staff more

I cant believe what i just heard 5/27/2009

I found out today that the vet i have been using refused to give a life saving shot to a friends dog. It makes me really sad that a vet that I have to care for my own animals would do that. An animals life is more important than the money they would receive for that shot. I always thought thats why they were vets-to CARE for animals!!! Cons: Uncaring vets more

Uncaring Vet 5/26/2009

I recently had to take my dog to this clinic for an emergency visit after becoming very ill over the weekend. I have used this clinic for years and for the first time did not have the funds available to pay for her visit in full at the time of service. I requested that they accept a check dated for that friday (only three days away) so I could just purchase the medicine she required. They refused and allowed her to suffer in agony. I will never use this vet again and would suggest to everyone that they search out a caring vet.......YOUR PETS LIFE COULD DEPEND ON IT! Pros: good location Cons: Money before your pets wellbeing more
