The Best of THE BEST 12/28/2008

This is by far the best restaurant in the area. Super service and the best atmosphere. This place has it all, including ambiance. Where else can you have the finest food than a church? Here the higher powers must be at work here. Truly a magical place. Not to mention the most beautiful art hand painted throughout the church. We were lucky enough to dine in the ""Altar"" . This was so special. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. Everyone must go!!!!! Pros: The finest restaurant in town. more

Avoid like the plague! 5/11/2008

My first time visit will be the last. We were a party of 26 for a college graduation on a Saturday night. The reservations had been made months in advance. Our hosts were not informed until 48 hours before that they were required to select from the catering menu for parties exceeding 12 guests. The restaurant set us up in the main dining room at ONE table 13 to a side! It was ridiculous. (The table was so long you could only see the people seated immediately adjacent to you. You couldn't walk to visit others, because the cramped quarters didn't allow the servers to get by if someone was standing.) They could easily have set this group up on the adjacent riser (""altar"" area), in the choir loft, or sectioned off 6 or 7 tables in a block. Our end of the table was furthest away from the hosts, and we were treated accordingly. We got 1 of 3 appetizers passed to our end, and requests for servers to bring some over went unfullfilled -- as did requests for ice, drinks, etc. The potatoes and veggies were served family style, but they didn't put enough out and, once passed to an adjacent diner, you never saw the food again. I never did receive my veggies, and would have substituted potatoes if there had been any left.\r The food was well prepared, but not hot.\r Overall, if I were the host and had spent almost $2000 for this party I would be livid. Highly not recommended. Pros: No pros Cons: Ambience, Parking & valet wait, volume, service, unable to handle a group. Lacking in every way. more

Food is awful 1/21/2008

Go for the location, but do not go for the food as it is just bad. The dishes are poorly cooked and visually unappealing making it a great place to lose your appetite. The downstairs bar is attractive and the drinks are good. However, the moment you go upstairs to eat--everything changes. Poorly trained service has always been a hallmark of this location. Now, the chef must be punishing the guest as the food should be avoided. Pros: Neat decor and visually interesting Cons: Food and service are not acceptable more

Decadent Roman Grease 8/31/2007

Food was greasy and tasteless. Staff was overattentive and kept staring at my crotch. Prices fluctuated due my anger at overattentive staff. Improper behavior by staff (laughter and deviance) made me nervous of the grease that was in the food. Theme was Roman and decadent. Pros: Close to a river. Cons: Outside is genericly charming like other locations, inside is monstrous. more

Overpriced 6/5/2005

The food is average, your basic creole menu if they had any idea how to cook creole food. Someone somewhere decided that if you add cayene to everything, it makes it creole. Even a spicy lobster bisque that tasted more like old shrimp. Steaks are okay, if you like fatty pieces drowned in butter. Really not much flavor. Everything is ala carte, so you can easily double the bill. Desserts lack any sort of imagination. Maybe the worst brownies I've ever had in my life, and who can really mess up a brownie? Dry but gooey at the same time, and so sweet that they made my teeth ache. The only thing I can rave about is the service. Top notch servers, and a support staff that is beyond attentive. Too bad the food doesn't live up. more

Eating in Church is a Good Thing 2/3/2004

This converted church in New Hope is a beautiful setting, with the New Orleans-style cuisine a nice change from the usual. The Shrimp Maison was good; the other appetizer was a 3-soup tasting, with 2 being very good and the 3rd, the lobster bisque, the best weve ever tasted. As described, a sampling of 4 different oysters brought various flavors and finishes. The Eggplant Ophelia entree, a casserole of spicy, southern seasonings, eggplant, crabmeat and shrimp was delicious. The crab cake was also very good, although I should have asked for a dipping sauce to accompany it. We also enjoyed 2 delicious side dishes; one was creamed spinach and the other a pea and onion au gratin dish. We shared a Granmeres Dessert - something you should try. With wine, dinner totaled $130 before tip. Not inexpensive but a nice change and a very nice experience. Pros: Nice change, Lobster bisque Outsta, Attentive Staff more
