BEWARE OF ""FREE TRIAL WEEK"" SCAM.... 6/6/2011

A good gym to avoid the crowds 10/31/2009

No frills - No wait - No brainer 7/10/2008

I've been a member of many gyms over the past 20 years, working out 5 days a week with my brother Willy. Pros: Hours of operation, Staff, Location, Parking Cons: Only one location more

Enter at your own risk. 4/4/2008

I had been going to the Marina Fitness center for 2 1/2 years. I never had a very high opinion of this dank gym but I had a very bad experience there recently. I left my phone at a piece of equipment for a moment and when I returned, a gentleman let me know that he turned it in at the front desk. By the time I got to the desk, the person (Marina Fitness Employee) that received the phone had left so I asked the remaining employee if he had seen the phone in the lost and found. He checked and it was not there. I was asked to travel to the employee's ""turf"" (20 minutes away) to recover the phone- when I did, I noticed that my screen displayed the message ""insert SIM card""- In short; the employee pocketed the phone, took it home and inserted his SIM card to send some very lewd text messages with my phone. He forgot to put my SIM card back in before he handed it over- not a very smart man . Thankfully, all I needed to do was purchase a new SIM card to rectify the situation. more

New to the area 1/10/2008

I just moved to the Marina and came across the Marina Fitness Center in a local newspaper. It was such a good deal I had to check it out, eventhough the facility is not new, it offered a friendly atmosphere that most corporate gyms lack. The gym is never crowded and looking over the marina while doing riding the recumbent bike is very peacefull for me. The kickboxing classes are awesome and racquetball is a fun change from typical cardio. I recommend this gym for new residents to the area, it's a great place to meet locals and I never have to search for parking. Pros: never a wait, always open, friendly staff and PT's more

Never a wait - Always open - Great place to meet people 1/5/2008

I just moved to the Marina a month ago and the first thing I did was go gym shopping. After searching for a comfortable atmosphere and place that wasn't overcrowded I was lucky to stumble across Marina Fitness Center. I was eating at the Cheesecake Factory and saw their sign. The staff and fitness instructors are fantastic, always upbeat and call me by my name every time I workout. I never have have to wait for machines and there are racquetball courts so I'm learning how to play ! If you're new to the area I would strongly suggest checking this cool little gym out, it's perfect for me. Pros: TONS of PARKING, Never a wait, friendly people Cons: There is only one location more

watch out for a scam artist - gym associate Bruno 10/11/2007

We joined the gym in the summer of 2007. We thought we were just joining for two months but apparently they signed us up on a month to mont contract and I kept getting billed even after we had moved. I tried cancelling with the billing people for 3 months and they kept charging. We finally got our money back. Apparently one of the gym associates who had signed us up, Bruno, had started a scam and put people on these month to month contracts and forged their signatures. He has since been fired but beware of any gym associate named Bruno at any other place. Pros: location, parking Cons: con man, gym associate Bruno - made billing a nightmare more

Last one of its kind ! 9/13/2007

Almost every fitness center on the westside is over crowded and it's next too impossible to find parking and there is usually a wait for cardio. Eventhough Marina Fitness is an older facility, there is never a wait for anything and their cardio and machines are always maintained and in service. I have been a member for 3 months now and this neighborhood gym has given me a great space to train and be around positive people. The yoga and cycling classes are awsome ! The instructors are motivating and full of energy. I definately recommend Marina Fitness Center and appreciate everything they have done for me. Pros: Never a wait - tons of FREE parking - friendly staff - open 24 hours during the week more

2 happy new members! 9/13/2007

My wife and I just moved from New York a few weeks ago and needed a gym. We drove to some of the health clubs in and around Venice and Marina del Rey prior to googling a club and I wished I would have done that sooner. I'm not a foo foo type of guy. And like anyone else we wanted a gym that we didn't have to pay a huge price to be a member of. This is actually a perfect fit for someone who wants to get in and out without having to wait in line for equipment. I'm certainly not a bodybuilder but they have some really awesome equipment that you won't find in most clubs. Plus my wife loves the yoga classes and kick boxing with an instructor named Moses. I recommend it for the view too! They have some bikes and ellipticals that look out into the marina... very tranquil as you do your cardio. And the staff was way cool and gave us a pretty nice deal on the membership. So, I'd say if you want a clean club with a good rate, join this gym. Pros: 24 hours and a great price. Really good parking. Cons: I really don't have any in mind. more

It's a joke 7/19/2007

Aside from the layout being the most bizarre of any gym I have ever been to, the customer service is deplorable. I don't know if it's the toxic fumes of decade old sweat that puts everyone in a mean mood but after 1 week of training there with my World Gym displaced trainer (poor guy had no choice), we were out of there. more

Don't let the name fool you 6/15/2007

So I use to train at the wonderful World Gym before its sad closing. Went to this place with a couple of clients and they just looked at me with this ""are you kidding me look?"" - yes, the views are great but the place is old and dated and the staff is strange. And the towel service is not worth it. Bring your own towel to a brighter cleaner more updated gym. I'll let you know where I land... but there is a heads up for all you trainers out there. Pros: views Cons: smelly more

They provide ""rag-towel"" service, tune/sound-less TV's, Thievery soda machines and more... 5/16/2007

Most of the workout equipment is outdated. Marina Fitness's TV stations' tune satellite system was ""stolen"" (over 6 months) ago and promises to replace them have gone unnoticed. As a result, there is only one working TV and the others display subscripts on one station only. So you have to be a great lip reader or face watcher to understand what's going on. A big sign says ""Tune to station 97.5 - don't bother it doesn't work."" If you take too many showers, an employee takes notice. The General Manager plays favorites, terrorizes staff, and claims ""some of his best friends are blacks."" Sometimes the drink machine will give you a drink for your $2, but most time it just keeps it. Oh, the General Manager refuses to put up a warning sign because of those ""rare times"" the machine actually works, though the front desk does not give refunds. They have towel service, but I called it ""rag"" service. If you leave your car keys, there is a 70% chance they'll give you a rag-towel that the Salvation Army wouldn't accept for a donation but they would make good car-wash days. Pros: The view of the marina is wonderful. It's small private. Cons: Clan-ish. Flashy Fakey unfriendly people. GM - Koo Koo. more

Not for me 1/19/2006

This gym is kind of a mixed bag. Seems about on par cost-wise with other gyms in the area. It's definitely an older facility, with especially well-worn free weight gear. In my opinion, they have too much variety in free weight equipment with not enough core items. For instance, not enough flat benches, no dedicated incline bench, etc., but they do have some fairly specialized stuff. The facility is older and kind of dingy, not the most welcoming place ever. It's kind of hard to get jazzed about going to work out there every day. The facility is also layed out kind of strangely, with stuff seemingly crammed into ever nook and cranny. The cardio areas get especially hot because of this layout issue. The coolest things are the cardio machines overlooking the marina and the full-height heavy bags for kickboxing workouts. They also have reasonably priced raquetball courts. Pros: Good location Cons: Very dated , Limited free weights more
