I have been to Margaret's a few times with friends. I can say that I was not all that impressed. I did not think that there was that much of a selection, and what they did have ...

Seller beware! I was stunned to find out I was being charged a $1.00 handling fee on every item I sold at Margaret's in addition to their commission. As a buyer, I have never felt the sales staff at Margaret's were accommodating or even pleasant for that matter. So even though they do have some nice merchandise, I am taking my business elsewhere...both buying and selling! more

Editorial review from Citysearch 10/18/2012

I've been shopping at Margaret's since they opened many years ago. I tried once to take items to consign but they did not meet with their high standards. I tried not to take that personally, but they do have a way of making their customers feel like second-class citizens. There have been a few clerks over the years that have been friendly and helpful, but Margaret herself could do a lot to help the attitude prevelant in the store.\r \r Margaret, my tip to you: OPEN A RESTROOM TO THE CUSTOMERS! There have been many occasions I did not make a purchase because my bladder was bursting and I had to leave! There is a restaurant next door with a restroom, but it is embarrassing to go in an establishment just to use the facilities, so I usually purchase food or drink I don't really want. (Making a trip back to use the facility again a necessity!)\r \r Overall, there are many bargains to be had on lovely, elegant clothes and accessories as well as household items. And the merchandise is displayed beautifully as Margaret is gifted in interior decorating. more

Staff is THE WORST!. I arrived in Louisville from out of town and hit the consignment stores looking for fabulous finds to wear to the Derby. I started my search at Margaret’s consignment store. BIG MISTAKE!! A matronly woman was nasty to me. I had selected several dresses to try on – left my selection in the dressing room to go find a few more choices. This sales lady proceeded to track me down and told me “this is no mall store” in no uncertain terms she told me put my dresses back on the racks now. I had not even made my final choices! My next mistake was asking a passing employee if there was a restroom and got a very curt NO. Needless to say, I left never to return which is too bad because the clothing was nice but the “customer service” was outrageous!! more

AWESOME bargains - GREAT quality merchandise! 9/26/2011

I have been shopping at Margaret's for years, and it is my favorite place to find a GREAT bargain! I've purchases dresses to wear to weddings and Derby events, shoes, hats, jewelry, and my most recent purchase was a full 36-piece set of gently used black and white dishes for $45! The prices get cut in half after the items have been in the shop for more than one month, so there are always incredible deals, and the inventory changes frequently so there is always something new to see. Not to mention, I've taken items there to consign and its like Christmas when I go in to check my account and see how much $$ I've made! Margaret's is THE PLACE to find upscale clothing and accessories for crazy cheap prices - they even have a designers room that carries only designer name items. You also get a 10% discount if you pay with cash! I plan to be a loyal customer for life! more

LOVE THIS PLACE! 9/24/2011

I really can't say enough good things about Margaret's! THe staff is always so helpful and knowledgeable. The merchandise is beautifully displayed and sorted appropriately. I also love the variety of items they carry. I can get a gift for a friend, a dress to go out on the town in, accessories to complete the look, and something for my 6-year-old son, all at the same time. Of course, all cost WAY LESS than items at any other store. I wish there were more retailers like Margaret's around town - we should be honored to have this special gem in Louisville! more

bad experience 6/13/2011

The lady in the payout window at Margarets consignment bit my head off because I did not remember my account number!Beware--don't go in there on a Wednesday!!!! more

Horrible Service 5/2/2011

I can only echo what the other reviewers have written. I'm not sure if the advanced age of the women working there attributes to the rudeness, but their attitude is awful. I could maybe endure this rudeness f the quality of the merchandise was top notch, but unfortunately this isn't a New York consignment store filled from top to bottom with high end brands. It is a store in Louisville KY with the majority of their stock being from local deptartment store like Macy's and Dillards. more

First and Last Visit 1/26/2011

I went to Margaret's for the first and last time today. I had several items that I wanted to consign, plus I wanted to look around and shop. Everyone that worked there was extremely rude and snobby. I wish I had read these reviews. I also wish I had researched the proper procedure for consignment. The woman at the front counter quickly cut me off and corrected me for saying I had items for them to look at to buy. She directed me to the ""back window"". I walked to the back of the store to find another rude woman, who ignored me until she was ready to speak. When I told her I had items that I wanted to ""consign"", she also cut me off in mid-sentence and told me that I needed to go outside to the back window and that none of my items would be accepted because they were not on hangers. If you like being talked to as if you are stupid, and you like snobby customer service from a second-hand clothing store, then this is the place for you. I, however, will not step foot in this store, nor advise anyone else to do so. more

Rude..... 11/19/2010

Been taking things in there for 15 years...they have a nice selection...and a few of the staff members are nice..but Man..I have run across some bitches there...Just today..I went to check my account..and was snapped at by the lady at the window...Rude...miserable....service...\r Most of them are just ..mean snooty bitches...and I took a few things in last week..to consign..and it is all and good, if you don't mind being insulted..along w/ your items..by the snooties.....and they are too full..and your stuff is just not good enough...meanwhile they seem to take in a bunch of fake..crappy bags..and stuff I would not wear to a Dogfight.... more

horrible place, horrible people. 9/21/2010

this has to be the biggest shopping dissapointment in louisville. the staff are rude, snotty and do not care at all to help you. it could be a great store, but it fails miserably. every time i've been in there to give them another chance, they blow it. i have decided to never go back! more

Horrible Customer Service 4/28/2010

I went in to buy a pair of shoes for myself, and some clothes for my 5 year old little girl. While in the store, my daughter announced that she had to use the restroom. When I asked if there was one available, the clerk said, ""No, not for public use."" And I asked, ""Even for a five year old, little girl, who is now crying?"" The answer was still, ""No."" I am so unbelievably angry that some exceptions can't be made! Unfortunately, I have often felt that the staff was incredibly snobby, but how heartless, to not allow a little girl into their restroom? I have been a loyal customer-not anymore. There is a power in networking. This information will go on my Facebook, as well. RUDE, INCONSIDERATE! I hope that that woman is never in a position where she is refused a toilet, to the point of tears. Pros: quality clothing Cons: RUDE more

Poor Business Practice 3/5/2010

After enjoying many loyal years as a shopper for my family at Margarets, with no problem at all with quality, price or attitude of staff, imagine my suprise when my polite request for exchange of a mis-labeled item was met with sarcasm, rudeness and anger.... Item purchased was a pair of pants labeled 36/30. In fact\r when my hubby who wears this size put them on we had a great laugh as the length of the pants was only\r 24 inches (!) I assured him no flood was in site - that \r it was a simple mistake by Margarets. I returned the next day to ask politely if it was a situation of us both being misled by the consigner - if I, having received merchandise wrongfully labeled, could exchange it for a similar item (of the proper length). The first clerk was very nice - but the manager or senior clerk she brought to discuss this was immediately rude and very sarcastic. I sought to ask her to understand that it was not my (the purchasers) fault that the item was mislabeled and that I would accept an exchange for a proper one - or as she kept pushing me to consign the trousers - to consign it if they would give me my purchase price in doing so.... My voice remained calm, hers did not - to put it politely. I informed her it was a life lesson for me then and a loss of a loyal customer for them.... all over 9 dollars (their profit on the item). Poor poor business practice. Now hearing horror stories from many people of ill treatment, and out and out unwelcome/rude attitude. Such a shame - this shop could be wonderful. Pros: Quality Merchandise at Fair Prices Cons: Poor Customer Relations more

I will NEVER go back! 12/29/2009

I was treated very rudley because I forgot enough hangers for my clothes. The ower slammed the window in my face! Seriously! I decided to go somewhere and give my clothes to a place that treated me with respect. Really lady, you own a consignment shop, big deal. You seem really miserable. Cons: the rudest people! more

Always a great experience! 10/16/2009

I have shopped at Margaret's since the day she opened. The shop has expanded so much since then, and I have nothing to say but great things about the employees as well as the store itself! Support local business. Pros: Great selection, awesome atmosphere, fun location more

Can always count on Margaret's 10/8/2009

They obviously have some very steady and tasteful consignors. There is a regular flow of high end things. I find most of these comments below quite silly. Margaret's not only has proven their potential, they have passed up the competition. Probably explains the sour grapes on this board - competitors slinking in to sound off. Not bad service -- some bad customers maybe. Sorry about your luck poor competitors, petty people -- try on some excellence yourself. You may have a better result in your life as well. Pros: All around excellence Cons: Little crowded downstairs more

Has potential to be perfectly lovely 10/7/2009

Located in a lovely old historic building. Choice of clothing colors, sizes, & styles is more than adequate. I visit consignments shops in every city I I visit, and this is one of the nicer shops I have visited. That is why it made me sad that my shopping experience wasn't more enjoyable. The ladies who worked in this store did not speak with any customer as they entered the door. In fact, they acted as if they could care less if we were there or not. I bought five shirts/sweaters and paid around $80 total with tax, so most of the prices were fair. Pros: Display of merchandise is set up well Cons: Poor hospitality & tiny dressing rooms more

very disappointed 7/17/2008

I have always shopped at Margaret's anytime I was in Louisville. I was there two weeks ago and as usual paid in cash because I had always received a 10% discount. I reviewed my receipt and did not get a discount. I went back into the store and asked the clerk about my bill. She said they only gave that discount one or two times a month now. I certainly wish I had been informed of the policy change before I paid my bill. Stores who change policy and do not inform the customers are doing us a great injustice.\r more

Fun Girls Day Out 6/13/2007

While Margaret's may not be the best place for mothers accompanied by young children, the bargains\r are definitely worth having a little time to shop unencumbered by children. I know, I have 5 children of my \r own. The selections are vast and fast-moving. I love that she separates each section by color: it makes \r it easier for my busy brain to focus and look for something in a particular color, or to totally avoid a section\r if I know that color is not appealing to my desires for that day. Many of my daughters' formal dresses have\r come from Margaret's. Margaret's is trendy, classy, and inexpensive all at the same time. Anytime we\r have out of town guests, it is one of the most requested adventures. Pros: Prices, Selection more

No place for mothers! 5/8/2005

In a store that doesn't allow for strollers or children who walk, mothers cannot shop. The owner isn't concerned about hearing complaints either. She is much too busy for her customers and her time is apparently more important than mine. I have never been treated with so much disrespect by the owner or manager of any retail business. Pros: Great Selection, Inexpensive Cons: BAD Customer Service more
