Editorial review from Citysearch 3/14/2013

When my mother was first admitted, a doctor examined her. A few days later, her health and situation worsened. She asked to have a doctor see her. She (and my brother and I) was told that the staff “called the doctor, but he didn’t respond”, which meant they did nothing, therefore jeopardizing her health. When I complained to the head of the facility, she insisted that they are only required to have patients examined upon entry. My mother was left for hours on end to fend for herself if she needed any help or was in any kind of pain – causing her to defecate and urinate on herself, because the staff claimed to be “short-handed”. It was only because my brother and I called and frankly screamed that they eventually checked on her. Someone at Manor Care then chose to prescribe a blood pressure medication to my mother and insisted she take it. When she protested, saying that’s not what her doctor wanted her to be on, the staff person from Manor Care made it clear they were in charge and forced her to take it. As a result, her health worsened. If she did not stop, the results could have had had lasting damage or been fatal. As my mother’s health worsened, my brother and I called numerous times a day insisting that a doctor look at her. Each day, both of us were promised that a doctor would see her that day. This went on daily for three days, and each day there was a different excuse – such as, “the doctor is quitting and needed to show his replacement around”, which presumably did not include a tour of patients needing attention were. Eventually, after several days of nonstop lies, a doctor’s assistant spoke to but did not examine my mother. A doctor’s assistant is not a qualified physician. Eventually, my mother made an appointment with her own personal physician and left Manor Care for the appointment, which resulted in a screaming call from their staff to my brother, insisting she could not leave without their expressed permission. Well, it’s a good thing she did because her doctor instantly took her off the wrong medication and sent her to a heart specialist a few days later. Fortunately, once this happened, the staff at Manor Care wisely chose not to endanger her health any further and she was able to leave a few days later.\r No one seeking to regain their health should be forced to endure what my mother did and it is only because she is lucky enough to have children who are able to do something that she got out of there in time. Not everyone is that lucky.\r more

We Couldn't be More Satisfied 8/9/2010

62 days ago we visited Manor Care looking for a facility to care for my 79 year old father who had suffered a fall and spent 10 days recuperating in the hospital. The only way he would make it back home was if he got serious physical therapy from a qualified facility. I felt as if the weight of the world was on my shoulders since it was up to me to visit facilities and pick one........a responsibility that no child ever wants. I went to Manor Care and gave them the third degree, especially in light of the negative comments I had seen on the internet. more

Excellent Care and Wonderful people at Manor Care 6/6/2010

My love one stayed at Manor Care, she was treated with respect and dignity. All the staff are very friendly, room is always clean. We already plan for the worst, with her advanced age, broken hip and dementia we thought she will never make it, but she did. I will always recommend Manor Care to everyone needing rehabilitation. Pros: Excellent Rehab Cons: Hard to fined parking more

My mother's getting good care 5/23/2010

My mother has Alzheimer's and was moved here after breaking her hip. In rehab, she healed very quickly. The nurses treated her like a regular human being and were very attentive. Then, she moved upstairs to Long Term Care. It's not perfect, but it certainly could be worse. Again, they treat her like she's a regular human being and I have piece of mind knowing I don't have to go over there every day. You DO have to visit your loved one regularly and be on top of their care. Still, I could not do what they do every day for a living-no way. I'm happy with the care my Mom gets at Manor Care. Pros: RNs & CRNs Assigned to Patients Cons: Could be more attentive more

Never send a loved one here 1/6/2010

My father would be alive today if we hadn't sent him to this place for 2 days after his surgery for recovery. He never saw a doctor, had a heart attack that they didn't even notice and became very ill. After moving him to the emegency room at the local hospital, he passed away from all the complications. Worst care imaginable! The one star rating is only because I have to put something in there to publish this. I wouldn't give them any stars. Pros: The place is pretty Cons: No care or attention given to patients more

horrible people at manor care 8/27/2009

i tried getting my gmas stuff out of their ""storage"" but nobody ever had the key to it. i even went down there a few times to try to get it. but the ""house keeper"" was never there, so they donated all of my grandmas stuff!!! we are devistated that we dont have her belongings now.....that is just one problem though. more than once when i would go to visit my gma, they hadnt taken her teeth out for days. her gums were hurting her and there was even food still in her mouth from hours ago! please do not put someone you love in this place!!! Cons: everything about them more

You can't even die with dignity here. Hospice care is horrible here! 3/1/2009

We just had to put our mother in this facility for hospice care and all we've asked is that she be kept pain and nausea free and let her die with dignity. During daily visits, we sit for hours and no one comes in other than to maybe drop a tray of food. They don't check her waste regularly and even had her meds 'as needed' instead of as instructed on a schedule. She's had a stroke and can't talk nor ask for assistance, so anyone with any sense would know that she should be on a schedule. Also it doesn't take that much time to just check on her. She can't get out of bed, she has bedsores and is not even being rotated regularly as required. She doesn't have long to live and we've not asked for much, but are getting NOTHING!!! We are extremely dissatisfied with this facility and the level of care given. It's gotten very little better after complaining to shift supervisors but since they aren't there on weekends, the level of care went right back to nothing. Pros: Clean facility Cons: Lack attention to instructions and don't do their job. The level of care is abusive in nature. more
