If there was one thing I learned today it was ALWAYS ask the price before agreeing to let someone alter my clothes. After hearing that Manikins was the place in SLO for alterations, I was very disappointed when I picked my bridesmaids dress. When I originally walked into Manikins Tailor, Catherine Doyles (owner) seemed very cheerful. I had many items that needed to get altered (jeans, dresses, and a shirt), however I also had a priority list of what items needed fixing first. The bridesmaids dress was first on my list. When I simply asked her how much it was for the alteration with original hem, the price made me change my mind. Once I said ?No thanks, I'll just do this dress"". Catherine's attitude changed and was very negative. She seemed appalled that I refused to pay her price. I had read the previous reviews about a bridesmaids dress and the average was around $50, so I was gauging my prices around that, give or take $15.
While she was marking where my dress hem line she stated, ""Well if you didn?t? like the price of the jeans you are not going to like this"". I was shocked that someone in the customer service industry would tell me that and though my intuition told me I shouldn't have let her make alterations but I did because the dress was necessary for the upcoming wedding I was in. I didn't ask the price, however she also didn't tell me. When I went to get my dress she charged me $90.00 for a new hemline and one dart. She looked at me very rudely when I repeated the price. Normally, the price does not bother me if it is quality and the service is exceptional. However, this store and the owner Catherine possessed neither. Her professionalism is as nonexistent as her customer service skills. I will never to back to this alterations store nor would I recommend them.
