Great comfortable place to enjoy a bite to eat 4/27/2009

The first wonderful experience placed in front of me, was the Minnesota Martini, a delicious classic kissed with a hint of orange. As I enjoyed the martini it quickly became clear I had not entered a classic Manhattan eatery but an elevator, the music felt more like a jazzy adult film but it was a minor inconvenience that hopefully management fixes, it also did not detract from the overall warm wood tones of the restaurant. At this time I ordered the Ahi Tuna and the Pork Tenderloin, from my very polite server Aaron. The Ahi Tuna appetizer arrived, the plate was beautiful full of color and the smell was wonderful. At the first look you could tell this Ahi was perfectly cooked, the seasoning was wonderful as well. Only downside might have been the overabundance of fixings to distract my appetite from the tuna, but each filled a different taste. The pork was next. First impression the plate was well dressed and the sauce covered a delicate balance of onion chips and mashed potatoes. The french beans covered the side and added a dash of color. The smell was wonderful, and I knew I would be in for a treat. The pork was perfectly cooked and very tender, the onion chips provided the bit of crunch the plate needed. It was after the second bite I realized there was a sauce, (as a brief side note I love big flavors in sauces) the sauce lacked flavor, it seemed like an after thought rather then a compliment. It did add moisture and with a bit of salt it would have added some flavor. Overall the tenderloin was great and I would be happy to order it again. Manhatttans has a great combination of service, food and some great looking martini's, I will be back. Pros: Martin's, food, comfortable atmosphere, and friendly service Cons: Music, sauce seasonings more

Terrible food...worse service 11/30/2008

To say that this was a disappointment would be an understatement. We were seated, and no server spoke or approached us for over 5 minutes. Then we ordered drinks and an appetizer, and they arrived together 10 minutes later. The calamai/shrimp was disgusting...greasy and mushy. The balance of the meal didn't get better. WE needed to ask for additional drinks, etc. We will never go back. Pros: Good location Cons: Terrible food more

Extremely rushed... 11/13/2008

I'm not the kind of person who's too picky about food, but I'll feel I'd be remiss not to tell others to avoid this restaurant. The food was overly expensive, and mediocre at best in quality. The service was fine for the meal, but various servers and managers came to the table repeatedly within minutes asking if everything was OK. The kicker was that we arrived at our reservation at 5:30, and around 7:00 they came over to tell us that another party with reservations that they needed the table for would be arriving. Frankly, a lack of planning on the part of whoever takes reservations shouldn't call for an emergency on the part of the patrons. This is especially true when we'd only been there an hour and a half, and had spent a goodly amount of money. In short, walk down the hall to Capital Grille for your meal instead. more

Outstanding 10/29/2008

What started as "meeting for a drink", ended up with dinner, oh.. the New York just melted in my mouth, and friends joining. The service was incredible, starting with the bartender that was charming and fun and ended with the most fabulous server. You can't have a better experience! Pros: Great Atmosphere, food, and martinis Cons: it is really located on Hennipin, not Lasalle more

MY NEW FAVORITE LUNCH SPOT 10/29/2008

I went to Manhattans today for the first time, it was the best lunch me and my boss have had in a long time. I had the sx in the city sandwich. It was amazing, with red peppers, avocado and some type of dressing that was scrumptious. I will be coming back for lunch again!! Thanks Manhattans for the great food and the great prices! Pros: food, food, food Cons: none that i could find more

Felt like a queen 10/29/2008

Lucky enough to be seated in the Board Room, I felt like a queen! My friends and I were going to a show and didn't realize all of Downtown would be booked, the hostess squeezed us into the Manhattans Board Room. It was truly amazing! We shared a great bottle of wine which was poured into a beutiful crystal wine glass- wow!! The three of us shared ahi tuna, crab cakes and little burgers, each were unique and wonderful. We also split scallops and a pork dinner which were equally as great as the appetizers. We ended our meal with a chocolate cake and ice cream, not the chocolate cake that mom makes but the chocolate cake that you can't live without! The server was also incredible, he was very knowledgable on the wine selection and listen to what we were looking for. His professionalism and mannersmade us feel welcome! We haven't felt so appreciated and welcomed in a restaurant in a very, very long time. Funny thing is they were helping us by sqeezing us in- they were packed! Thanks Manhattans and the great wait staff Pros: Everything Cons: busy more

Loved the Walleye dinner! 10/29/2008

I am not a downtown dining kind of lady. Yet I heard wonderful things about Manhattans, so I had to see what all the buzz was about. I have to agree with what I had heard...the mood when you walk in is fabulous, the staff were nice, I had an all around great time and would definitely venture downtown to have there Walleye again! It was better than my husbands (hope he doesn't see this). Beautiful restaraunt! Pros: Food is wonderful, setting is great Cons: parking was hard to find more

Go to Palomino instead 10/22/2008

Steer clear of this joint. I have never complained about a place before but my recent experience has spurred me to let as many people as possible know that this place is poorly run. I guess I should have known by how empty the place was. The food was cold, undercooked and delivered by a server with an air of entitlement. When I relayed that I was not pleased with my dish, did I get an offer to replace it? Well, yes but only with attitude. And an exceptional wait. We left unhappy. My recommendation is to walk past this place and take the escalator upstairs to PALOMINO where they know how to create a pleasant dining experience. more

Poor service 2/24/2008

After making reservations and arriving on time we were sent to the bar to have a drink while our table was being set up. At the bar we stood for over 10 minutes without acknowledgement from any of the three bartenders. We told the host why we were leaving and she tried to convince us to stay, but at that point there was nothing left. The restaurant left a bad taste in our mouth and we didn't even eat there. Pros: Good location Cons: Service more

Great date night 2/14/2008

My husband and I had a great Valentine's dinner at Manhattans. The decor and music was fabulous. Manhattans was so relaxing and yet upbeat at the same time. We were able to share some needed quality time together, have a couple glasses of wine, and with our attentive waiter have a relaxing evening. We shared the crab cakes for our appetizer, and they were a great beginning for the rest of our meal . The Roasted Red Pepper soup made our hearts warm, it was delicious! My lamb chops (which our waiter recommended) were perfect , they melted in my mouth. My husband had the filet, which he felt was one of the best he has ever had. We ended our great meal with a creme brulee. It was alittle cold out that night (okay, very cold), but we were glad we made the effort to try this restaurant. They have managed to bring a part of the real "Manhattan" to the Twin Cities area. Thank you Manhattans for helping my husband and I celebrate Valentines day. We plan on coming back soon, with our friends who had recommended your restaurant to us. more

If you like your food drenched in salt, this is the place for you 2/10/2008

Ok, so I heard good things about Manhattans. The decor was fine, about what you'd expect for a nicer downtown restaurant. The location is so-so. We happened to be there on a cold winter night, and the proximity of the restaurant to the entrance to LaSalle Plaza caused the restaurant to be freezing. Can't blame them too much for this. The service was average for this kind of place. So was the price. Now let's get to the steak. Both myself and my date had the fillet, and I've never had anything so salty in my life! I'm talking french fries, fair food, whatever. She bit into hers and gasped, telling me it was really salty. I thought well it can't be that bad, and had some of mine. It literally burned my mouth it was so salty. When I asked them, they said that was how they prepared their meat. Um, you bury it in a salt mine for 3 years?? good lord it was almost too much to eat. So I scraped it off and once I got to the middle, the meat was fine. It was cooked the right amount (medium) so no complaints there. We also got the salmon for an app, and it was also extremely salty, as well as the potatoes that came with the steak. Not sure if this is a movement in fine dining... high-soldium??? Ugh. I don't think we'll go back. Sorry. Pros: Nice ambiance Cons: Unbelievably SALTY more

Wonderful In Every Way!!! 11/20/2007

My girlfriend kept telling me that she has a new favorite restaurant. She is really into good food and it has never been as important to me. Still, I appreciate a good dining experience and Manhattans far exceeded my expectations. Usually things that have been built up as something great don't live up to your expectations. Not the case here. We shared the beef Satay appetizer and I had the walleye for my meal. Honestly, it was the best walleye I have ever eaten. The beef satay is absolutely delicious and tastes quite different than the typical beef satay. Our server was genuinely nice and very helpful. The decor is classy, classic and so is the music. What a cool place. I see why my girlfriend loves it. I am now a fan as well. Pros: Excellent experience more
