Ok, so I heard good things about Manhattans. The decor was fine, about what you'd expect for a nicer downtown restaurant. The location is so-so. We happened to be there on a cold winter night, and the proximity of the restaurant to the entrance to LaSalle Plaza caused the restaurant to be freezing. Can't blame them too much for this. The service was average for this kind of place. So was the price. Now let's get to the steak. Both myself and my date had the fillet, and I've never had anything so salty in my life! I'm talking french fries, fair food, whatever. She bit into hers and gasped, telling me it was really salty. I thought well it can't be that bad, and had some of mine. It literally burned my mouth it was so salty. When I asked them, they said that was how they prepared their meat. Um, you bury it in a salt mine for 3 years?? good lord it was almost too much to eat. So I scraped it off and once I got to the middle, the meat was fine. It was cooked the right amount (medium) so no complaints there. We also got the salmon for an app, and it was also extremely salty, as well as the potatoes that came with the steak. Not sure if this is a movement in fine dining... high-soldium??? Ugh. I don't think we'll go back. Sorry. Pros: Nice ambiance Cons: Unbelievably SALTY
