Hey, i'm all for giving Round Rock good ratings since I live right down the street, but this place was not very good at all. We went on a slow week night a few months ago, after ...

Great looking steak, no flavor! 10/16/2006

We were very excited about trying out a new restaurant, we were told this would be a very good one. WRONG! more

My girlfriend and I went for Valentine's day. Since the only offering was a holiday menu, we knew that it would cost more. The service and food starated out great, but as the night went on, both dropped to just average. The wait staff seemed understaffed, as we had to remind our waiter a few times for our dessert silverware. I may try this place again on a non-holiday to sample from their normal menu, but we felt that better value could be found elsewhere. Pros: Romantic Cons: Overpriced, Mediocre food more

Mahi Mahi tasted like month-old grill grease. 2/17/2006

We had complained to the server that the fish wasnt good. This was purely to let the chef know so he could correct the problem. My wife and I went for the special Valentine's Day menu. She chose the Mahi Mahi as her main course; I chose the Fillet Mignon. Our complaint was that the fish tasted... well... like a dirty grill. There was no fish flavor at all, and though the texture was nice, the flavor was terrible. Additionally, my wife's fish had a large bone in it, my fillet was delivered rare when I asked for medium, and there was a chunk of gristle in it. I wasn't upset really, until the manager came to talk to us about our complaint. Her attitude toward us was extremely condescending and culminated in an insincere apology. It would have been better if she never spoke to us at all. more

Main Street is as close to perfectin as it gets 6/18/2005

Everybody is talking about workouts these days and my favorite workout place, working all your taste muscles, is Main Street Grill. We asked for the special appetizer from Monicas and the Southwestern Beef Tartar. This was followed by a wonderful Beef Tenderloin, prepared perfectly rare, in an amazing Port sauce with a Bearnaise on the side. This mixed with probably the best thinly breaded onion rings and asparagus. A little side of Macaroni and cheese added some playfulness. So it was different it is still one of the meals that give me the chills thinking about it because it was so, so good. A wonderful bottle of Chateauneuf-du-Pape caught our eyes, which was just amazing with the meal. We finished our workout with the wonderful Creme Burlee. The new chef and Issac our favorite waiter Main Street is as close to perfection as it gets. Pros: Ambience, Food, Service more

Neither fish nor fowl 9/18/2004

Described as Round Rock's fine dining venue - it unfortunately hasn't quite realized its full potential. The service is attentive, without being overbearing, the food is generally very good. The ambience lets the overall effect down. Fine dining restaurants do not,in my experience, allow shorts and open toe shoes, nor do they have a ""sports bar"" at one end of a noisy dining area. Better use of noise dampening wallcoverings would help increase an intimate environment. The pricing is good value, though the vegetarian option was below par and certainly much better pasta can be had at any of the pasta chain restaurants. Desserts are highly recommended and the ""at table"" flambe of the Bananas Fosters - certainly was handled well and hinted at the ""fine dining"" experience they intended. Overall, the Main Street Grill has made an effort but remains neither a fine dining restaurant nor a Grill. Pros: Good Value, Excellent Service, Desserts Cons: , Ambience, Sports bar more

Best Chef! 6/10/2004

We've been fans of main street for ever - but the food has really improved lately. I think they have a new head chef. The wine tastings and new menu items are creative, tasty and satisfying. Pros: Amazing Chef, Experienced staff more

Incredible Service 5/20/2004

I had heard about Main Street Grill from a few friends and decided to give it a try while visiting Austin. I must say, Houston does not have a restaurant that compares in the overall presentation that Main Street displays. Our server, Thad, was quite knowledgeable about the wines and made some wonderful suggestions about the Salmon, Trout and the to-die-for Shrimp Diablo. The service was first class and the food was outstanding. Pros: Good Service, Romantic, Scenic more

this place is still AMAZING! 3/12/2004

My wife and I had the pleasure of stopping by last night. Our server, Jeremy, was very informed about the menu and quite responsive to our needs without being overbearing. My wife had the halibut special, which was served with lightly cooked papaya and a spicy wild rice. I had the tenderloin special - filet mignon topped with pulled Muscovy duck and shoestring potatoes. The plate was so beautiful I almost didn't want to eat it.. but I'm glad I did! We have been to Main Street Grill many times, and the service, the food, and the ambience consistently outshines anything I've seen in Austin, much less Round Rock. After four years, they have never failed to please. more

Below Average 6/17/2003

Hey, i'm all for giving Round Rock good ratings since I live right down the street, but this place was not very good at all. We went on a slow week night a few months ago, after waiting 15 minutes for a waiter, we started to worry. I can't remember what fish plates we ordered, but I do remember the coagulated sauces, and rubbery textures, proving that our meals were sitting for probably 10-20 minutes before being brought out to our table. Sorry folks, I pass. Give me Iron Cactus, Gumbos, Ztejas, Louisiana Longhorn Cafe, and Chuys, i'll be happy as a clam. more

Bravo! 2/4/2003

We went to the monthly wine tasting in January and really enjoyed it. The wine selections and appetizers we enjoyed were definitely worth the price (and it was not unreasonable). Jim McKinney is a great host and eager to make his customers happy. We will definitely be going back for dinner. Pros: Wine Selection, Food, Owner/Staff Cons: Limited Seating more

Great! 12/11/2002

Main Street is GRRREAT! 11/21/2002

The food, service, and ambiance at Main Street Grille is fabulous. I highly recommend the Monica Salad or one of their items featuring fresh fish. I always take out-of-town visitors to Main Street Grille because I know that it will be a hit! If you are looking for a romantic, quiet evening, be sure to make your reservations for the vault. Pros: excellent food, super service, romantic Cons: none! more
