Hidden Jewel 8/15/2011

This is a hidden jewel in a deprived restaurant area. My friend and I have been there quite a few times. I can't say how great the wait staff is. Our last server, Ralph, was impeccable. The food is fabulous. We love the crab appetizer. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Kudos to Joe Bertuglia. Will be back. more

I can not believe what is right in my own neighborhood. 11/29/2010

I am a single guy and go out to eat several times a week. I guess you could say my kitchen is out of service. So I come home to La Porte to visit mom and take here out to eat dinner. We decide on Main 101, on the corner of Broadway and Main St. in La Porte across from the five points plaza. Mind you a stay near the Westheimer Galleria area where you expect greatness when it comes to food. As soon as I opened the door I was amazed. The restaurant was beautiful the ambiance was set right for dinner with mom or going on first date. The art on the wall kept me a minute but we were welcomed and sat by the host. The menu is broad ranging from $!0 sandwiches to $28 steaks. Mom eat off the Bistro menu which included wine, entree and a dessert for $19. I had the crab medley which is a crab lovers dream. One crab cake and a crab au graten unlike anything I've had in Uptown or Downtown. The service was excellent and the food was even greater. The proprietor came by at the end of the meal and recommended dessert. A homemade pieces of tiramisu caped our meal but not the evening we joined the bar crowed of regulars who ranged from a travailing business men to local homemakers. The bartender introduced us and offered what he called a digestive drink. If I had this much fun with Mom, I can not wait to bring a date to Main 101. more

An Absolute Gem! 1/27/2010

I'm new to the Texas area and I've been trying to find decent restaurants since arriving (not to mention trying to impress my date, haha). So, I did what most people do and ""googled"" restaurants near my zip code. After sorting through the list I came across Main 101 and scoped out their website... the site was decent and had some good pictures depicting the atmosphere/food. So, I decided to give it a shot... best decision I had made that week! My date and I arrived around 6:30 on a Friday evening to find the place relatively empty, which at the time made me a little nervous. We were promptly seated by one of the best servers I've ever had and immediately had some bread/drinks. Everything on the menu sounded amazing, but I went with the special (blackened halibut with a citrus sauce) and she went with the pork chop... both dishes were absolutely incredible. We followed it all up with one of the best desserts I've had in a long time... a caramel-apple pastry with vanilla ice cream, so good. The chef came out to see how everything went and everyone working there was extremely polite/attentive. I have nothing negative to say about the experience. I know I will definitely be returning, and hopefully with my lady friend ;) Pros: Great atmosphere, amazing food and excellent service! Cons: None that I have seen. more

Tres Fab! Scrumtious Smorgesboard! 8/13/2009

My entire family LOVES this restaurant! Most of us are admittedly food snobs. The owner is from NY, he is very gracious and treats us like family, sending out samples of mostly Italian chef creations. It reminds us of a wonderful family owned bistro in Queens owned by the Turturro family. The food here is delicious! There are tasty selections of Thai, Italian, seafood, and American fare to chose from. This restaurant belongs in NYC, but thankfully it is a lot closer! Thank you Main 101! Pros: Gourmet food! Fresh ingredients, Healthy choices, Cons: Cannot think of one more

Nice Surprise 3/23/2009

Have been here several times. After a shaky start when they first opened(as expected), this place has evolved to be a nice surprise! The quality of the food and the vast menu selection is a welcomed change for this area. In addition, the classy interior decor sets a really nice ambience-something most local establishments lack. The entrees are not ""over done"" with heavy sauces but, instead, are simple and elegant. Although they are definitely not the cheapest place to eat in the area, the prices are easily on par with other comparable restaurants. The problem is that La Porte is not accustomed to upscale food in this immediate area so, as the adage goes, ""you usually get what you pay for."" Pros: Quality of Food,Ambience Cons: Nothing worth mentioning more

Great Dining Experience 3/5/2009

I love to go to this restaurant. The personal service and the fantastic food are by far the best of La Porte. Since Hurricane Ike, Chef Jose Salgado(formerly of Rudy and Paci in Galveston) has been directing the culinary delights. If you haven't been on a while, give it a try. You won't be disappointed. more

Good choice for upscale dining on this side of town. 2/4/2009

Our party ate four different entre's, every one a winner. Cost reasonable. Atmosphere good. Service good. Even the chef came by to check our satisfaction. I'll be back. more

exceptional food, beautiful atmosphere 5/15/2008

I was impressed by the decor and the art as soon as you entered the restaurant. The attention to the details is maintained throughout your whole dining experience. I have visited many upscale restaurants all over the Houston and Bay Area and this one is a hidden gem in the heart of La Porte. The menu selection is on par and above many more popular restaurants. The biggest delimma was deciding what to eat! The crab cake appetizer was delicious! I had the steak and my companion had the seafood feature. They have an extensive wine and speciality drink selection also. It's a great place to eat, drink and socialize with friends! Very relaxing. Pros: menu selection, ambience Cons: closed Sundays more

Customer Satisfaction 5/8/2008

A great dining experience in La Porte's Main Street area. The menu selection accommodates a very diverse palate - from meat, fish, ahi tuna to vegetarian pasta dishes. The quality of the food is exceptional along with the customer satisfaction. The minute you walk through the door you are greeted from the friendly hostess, then your waiter tends to your every request, until you walk out the door and are thanked for coming from the owner himself. Thanks Main 101 for the great quality and customer service you bring to this area. Pros: Customer Satisfaction Cons: Smoke Free more

did not like it. 2/4/2008

I was very impressed with this restaurant the moment my family and I walked in, its a very beautifull place; The thing that bother me the most was the owner , and his lack of respect towards his employees and specially the way he talks about other costumers. He lacks a lot of people skills and that doesn't do good in the service industry..... Good luck staying busy Pros: beautifull building Cons: Horrible management more

A FANTASTIC experience 1/31/2008

This is a wonderful restaurant in La Porte. The St. John's pasta dish is incredible but make sure you are hungry when you order it. I have shared it with my wife and we still had a box to take home to enjoy the next day. Fish and Chips, Salmon, Chicken, shrimp and steak dishes are all so well prepared it is difficult to choose just one. The choices on the wine list are abundant and a full service bar also. Fantastic service from the wait staff and Joe, the owner will make sure your dining experience was what you expected. Since their opening in 2006, Joe has brought new life to La Porte with their fine dining restaurant. Try it and you will agree with the many who have made it their choice of a wonderful dining experience. Pros: fine dining with fantastic food without the high prices Cons: sorry, can't think of any more
