They destroyed all of the paintings! 6/22/2009

They painted over all of the paintings with some awful gold paint! I just heard the word from my girlfriend who went there today. She was so sick she couldn't stay. It seems like some idiot bought the place and remodeled it to look like I don't know what, like some room painted with automobile gold paint. I hadn't gone there for awhile and I don't think I'll be going there again. Cons: They destroyed all the paintings! more

Beer Good - Food Bad 4/28/2009

How can anyone eat here, unless of course they are so drunk from the delicious beer that they don't realize the 40 minute wait for food or the poor quality and crazy high prices. I like the beer, not love but a strong like. No one can complain too much about the quality or selection of on-site brew. On the other hand, how do you mess up a salad so much that even after 2 send backs it is still inedible? We ordered a sandwich that was mediocre at best and a salad that might be the worst one ever served in San Francisco. The tab for these 2 items (not including beer) was almost $40. After we finished our pints we walked down the road and got a few slices. Go for the beer - eat elsewhere Pros: Beer Cons: Food and service more

Best Brewpub in the Haight 7/29/2008

I like this place a lot. It's always warm when the wind is blowing and it's one of the few places where you can get a burger and a glass of cava. The wait staff are efficient and always treat the solo diner very well. Also, they have very good beer - have a glass or three while you hang out at the bar. Pros: Great beer and wine list Cons: Can get crowded more

Terrible sausage, undercooked meat. . .but good beer. 7/19/2008

I'm sorry but the food was terrible. My wife and I have been to Magnolia's several times, and it's been inconsistent at best. The pork sandwich was great, but the steak sandwich was rare, undercooked and awful. A week later we decided to try the lamb sausage and the buffalo sausage with similar results. The lamb sausage was horrific, served like a twirled doggie doo, and that?s about what it tasted like. . .vinegar, fleshy, and undercooked. The buffalo sausage wasn?t cooked thoroughly and it was like eating uncooked hamburger. . .yuk. It was so bad that I hope we don?t get sick. Sorry for the bad review. Pros: good beer Cons: uncooked meat more

A Great Restaurant No More 6/2/2008

This used to be a fabulous place to go for a burger and a beer. They recently (sometime between 4/20/08 and 5/31/08) renovated and I have to say it would have been better if the place had burnt to the ground. more

Best Hand Crafted Beer 4/17/2008

Great place to have lunch and a beer. the food is wonderful and the hand crafted beer is top notch. Every trip I take to SF has Magnolias in it. Pros: Beer Cons: Pan handlers out side more

Excellent Beer and Atmosphere - but bad service 12/22/2007

Excellent beer and atmosphere. Magnolia's seems to fit perfectly in the Haight neigborhood with a large variety of beer which comes complete with lots of Grateful Dead music. Unfortunately, the slow service destroys what would otherwise be an excellent experience. Pros: Greate Beer, Food, and Atmoshpere Cons: Bad Service more

What used to be good, now is NOT 8/12/2007

I've been living on Haight Street for almost a year now and as local eat at Magnolias two to three times a week. Over the past year, though their beers and ambience are great, it has gone down. Their food is no longer what it used to be and just recently their service has gone down to even less than one star. I would recomend you look for another brewery or pub. Save yourself the money, buy a beer. But don expect good service or food. Pros: cool space Cons: terrible service. more

Must stop for beer geeks 8/1/2007

Great local pub feel, and unbelievable selection of real ale. 5 cask conditioned and 8 draughts were on when we were in, didn't make it through all of them, but had fun trying. Our waitress Katie was wonderful, very friendly to these out of towners, and helpful with selections. One of those places that you just have to experience. Highly recommended. Pros: Outstanding beer, excellent service more

Happy hour wasn't so happy 6/19/2007

After reading the rave reviews on city search I decided to give it a try during their happy hour. I was somewhat disappointed to find out that there were only 6 featured beers on tap. I am an amber beer lover and they did have that on the selection so I was pleased. Not only were they out of beer selectoin, they were also out of a couple food menu items. This made it difficult to find something appealing on such a short menu to begin with. I am not that picky so I managed. I was suprised to find out that citysearch missed informed me that they served $2.50 20 0z pints for happy hour when indeed it was $4.00 pints. I could of got a better deal with better food somewhere else along the avenue. more

Go for the beer...stay for the ale 8/31/2006

Magnolia's serves some of the best cask conditioned ales in town. If you like yours colder and more carbonated; they have a version that's sure to please. Pros: cask conditoned ale, fine food, lively atmosphere Cons: parking may be an issue for some more

Brunch & Beer :) 5/25/2006

This isn't touted as a Bruch location, but the weekend specials menu is SO good! Spring pea, asparagus and spinach scramble... knock your sox off good! Fresh, Fresh, Fresh... is all I have to say about everything! The hash leaves a bit to be desired by us Irish traditionalists. But absolutely everything else was plate-licking good! :) We went back for brunch on Sunday just for the Bacon... yes it is that good! The service is brisk, but friendly and remember to put your name in at the bar as soon as you walk in the door, this is not a ""grab an empty table"" sort of place. The beer selection is a sight to be seen... enjoy! :) Pros: FRESH FRESH FRESH, Reasonably Priced, Clean bathrooms Cons: Potential for a wait more

You better like The Dead... 10/2/2004

I love Magnolia's sustainable agriculture cuisine and laidback approach. Sadly, I'm not a beer fan, so I couldn't take advantage of the remarkable selection of brews. If you love beer, jam bands, and american cuisine, I can definitely recommend Magnolia, a welcome fixture in The Haight. Pros: Choice beer selection, Haight-y atmosphere, Organic/sustainable Cons: , Jam bands, Jam bands more

Great Beer on Haight 4/19/2004

The Magnolia has great beer and really good food. Every beer and meal I have had has been terrific. The only negative is a slightly indifferent serving staff. Pros: Great Beer, Good Food Cons: , Slow Service more

Mags is Great! 8/27/2003

The most comfortable pub in the ciity to kick back and enjoy a piint and some delicious food. Tuesday's are great for $2.50 pints, you really can't go wrong with that, especially the cute bartender that works Tuesday nigths. Come for the beer, stay for the food and the service. Pros: Location, Beer/Food/Wait Staff, Murals Cons: Can be crowded more

Go...go NOW!! 1/22/2003

agnolias Stout of Circumstance may be the very best beer in The States. Yeah, you heard me, in all of the great ol USofA. Its dark, rich, and smooth, served at the perfect temperature in a stout glass that allows its magnificent head to formand most importantly it is brewed there on premises and always on tap (not a seasonal concoction). I urge you to get there ASAP, before the news spreads of this liquid bliss and the line to get in the joint stretches all the way down HaightRUN!!! more

where everybody knows your name... 7/25/2002

Magnolia's is one of my favorite pubs in SF. The friendly service is one of a kind and nothing beats the home brewed beer. Love the catchy names and their taste in music is most excellent. food's not bad either! go there for happy hour! more
