I am glad I am not the only one who found the staff ultra-rude. My $ is as green as the next guys! Want great food and not so much hype? Try Bistro 607 in Raleigh.

The best around. 6/27/2002

I have only been to Magnolia Grill once, but I was very impressed with the service and the food was excellent. By no means is it cheap. You really get what you pay for though. And the best part....the menu always has a few things that you've never tried before. Pros: cozy, good food, different Cons: pricey more

If you are afraid of flavor-avoid! 6/20/2002

The Magnolia Grill is not a restaurant for people who are afraid of flavor.Ben and Karen Barker serve some of the best food in the Triangle. To judge a restaurant based on whether chicken is on the menu is ludicrous. Ben Barker uses fresh seasonal ingredients and masterfully puts together dishes that are flavorful and interesting. Maybe that guy needs to get his wife to try different kinds of food. People who won't try squab or guinea hen instead of chicken should not be eating at the grill. They should stick to The Olive Garden. Pros: fresh ingredients, great desserts, great wine list more

Not impressed 6/20/2002

From all the hype I heard about the Grill I was very excited to take my wife and parents here for their anniversary. I found the service was slow and the tables were on top of each other. The food was good but not worth the heavy price tag it came with. The most disappointing part was that there was not one chicken dish. My wife does not eat red meat and there was literally nothing on the menu she could eat. I definitely will not be returning. more

WOW! 6/13/2002

Everyone told me it would be great. My wife even said it was ""life changing"". To my suprise it lived up to every expectation. The food was absolutely marvelous. Inventive combinations done with high skill. Pros: J. Beard Award Winner more

A Treat 5/29/2002

I came to the Magnolia Grill with high expectations. I wasn't disappointed. The food was inventive and outstanding and the service was excellent. We will be back! Pros: wonderful food, great desserts, great service Cons: pricey, a tad noisy, it's in Durham! more

Worth the Hype? 5/18/2002

The ""new southern""food can be very good here, and at time mediocre. Frankly, I don't see why it has such an elevated reputation. It's cramped, loud and can be slow. Don't miss desserts. Two great once are the buttermilk pudding cake with seasonal berries, and the tart, creamy goat-milk blintzes with sundries blueberry compote. more
