Magnolia Avenue Salon

I'm truely thrilled to find this salon. After moving to the Bay Area five years ago I've had a terrible time replacing my stylist of many years. It seemed as if I was doomed to have mediocre hair. I found Magnolia Avenue Salon on-line and decided to give it a try. What I found was a cozy salon with some very talented stylists. Pros: Talent, Experiance, and Customer Service Cons: I can't bring these girls home to style my hair more

I went to Magnolia because of all the rave reviews on this site...but I'm convinced now that the other responses are fake. I think they must be made by the salon staff because they are all so totally off from the reality of this place. I got the worst haircut of my life. It's jagged and totally uneven, and not at all what I wanted. I was very clear with what I wanted, and as the haircut progressed, I reminded the hairdresser of what I wanted. She refused to cut it the way I wanted, and left me with the ugliest, most unstylish ""haircut"" I've ever had. Then, when I tried to pay and leave, I stood there while the receptionist talked on her personal cell phone, played with the computer, and didn't even look up to see why I was standing there staring at her. Someone had to come over and ask her to help me. The whole experience was awful and not worth the $80 I spent. you're better off going to Super Cuts or a place like that...at least they only charge $15 for bad, unstylish cuts. Low-key, friendly, and relaxed atmosphere. Very personalized attention to client requests and continuing client satisfaction. I'm new to the salon but so far very good results, all moving in the right direction. Strongly recommended. more

I've been seeing Karen since 2002. She describes herself as ""master colorist"", but not only does she do great color, she does great hair! She just seems to understand the nature and texture of hair and what fits best for me and my lifestyle. Five years is the longest I have ever stayed with one stylist. Karen is fun to work with, the salon is bright and comfortable, and I love getting compliments on my hair! more

Seeing the sign for color specialist, I came to Karen with troubled color and unhealthy hair. I had spent time and much money in the hands of a pricy, exclusive salon and was not happy with the results. The color I came to Karen with made me looked washed out and old, besides the fact that my hair was frizzy and lacking in shine. Karen mapped out a plan to restore my natural color, help me cope with fast-growing gray roots, especially at the temples and part, and managed to ease this transition without the embarassing ""shock"" effect of showing up and having to respond to people's comments re my color.\r \r After my first color treatment and cut, I felt so renewed. Karen has been diligent about perfecting my color,\r my hair is silky and shiny, as she has been trimming off the frizzy ends. Her salon is very relaxing, the service is personal and sweet, and she carries excellent products that do not cost hundreds of dollars. Karen is focused, present and an expert.\r \r I am highly satisfied with my hair and my experience at the salon. The parking is right outside the door, a beautiful bakery with coffees and handy hardware store right here. Fresh air, good light and convenience.\r All around, the salon has been wonderful. more

I have always been very picky when it has come to my hair which is maybe why I rarely leave salons very happy but since I have been going to Karen I have been extremely happy with the results every time. She cuts and highlights my blond hair perfectly! Not to mention the price is very reasonable and the salon atmosphere is great! more

For two years I have had the good fortune of being a client at Magnolia Salon. As I pack to move out of state, it occurred to me how much I will miss my hairdresser, Russ Bard. He is the most highly skilled hairdresser I have ever had - that includes my experiences in San Francisco, Marin County, and Los Angeles. When it comes to products, Russ is a good researcher. He uses high quality hair coloring and styling products. And he takes the time to share his knowledge about hair and products with me. I know more about hair in the two years I've gone to Magnolia Salon than I've ever known. Russ Bard's skill and knowledge keeps my hair shining, stylish, and keeps me looking 10-15 years younger. Karen, the owner of magnolia avenue salon, did the most marvelous job EVER on my hair! i have worked in salons, gotten my hair done all over marin and the city and no one has ever done my hair as well as karen. here's my story: i got my hair done the day before my birthday at a horrible salon in san rafael. desperate and in tears i showed up at the magnolia avenue salon at 7pm in MAJOR need of a fix, without ever stepping foot in there before. 2 hours later, she completely transformed my hair into the most beautiful it has ever been!! not only did she console me when i was in a time of need, but made my very long platinum blond hair shine and look the healthiest it ever has. i will forever be in debt to karen for the amazing work she did on me, but one things for sure; I FINALLY FOUND A HAIR STYLIST AND SALON I CAN TRUST AND LOVE! trust me ladies and gents, i am the pickiest person you will ever know about my hair, and i love every strand of it. thank you karen, you are my lifesaver :) more

Gigi Renee transformed my hair from brunette to beautiful golden blonde. She spent extra time on my hair because that's what it needed. She put in 3x the amount of foils, and my hair turned out looking so natural. In addition to having a positive, happy attitude, her high level of skill and competence left me feeling completely at ease. I felt my hair was in safe hands with Gigi. She does not cut corners. I have been going to Magnolia Salon since it opened eight years ago. It's a very comfortable and relaxed environment. Karen Davis is an outstanding stylist/colorist who is always very responsive to my requests. She is a master colorist, always educating herself about new styles and techniques. Karen is an artist who really cares about her work and about keeping her clients happy. The product lines sold at this salon are excellent and Karen does a great job of recommending the appropriate products for my hair type. I honestly never thought the shampoos and conditioners I've purchased were worth the money until Karen began making recommendations for my hair. I have never had a problem scheduling an appointment or changing an appointment when necessary. This is the best salon in the Bay Area. more

Gigirenee left Marin County for a few years and I had to make do. But now she is back and I am so happy!!! It is so nice to have her back. I don't have to worry anymore about the results of my haircolor. Gigirenee always knows what my hair needs (and I for that matter, she is also very spiritual and giving personally). She is an expert with color (and cutting also). I cannot stress enough how professional she is as a hairstylist and colorist. Karen did an amazing job putting highlights into my overtreated hair. I would highly recommend the salon to anyone, but particularly if you have a specific color challenge. They are color experts. Even though I am trying to let my very short hair grow out, she did a great job trimming and reshaping it as well. And because I live in Marin, it was also very convenient. Great job! more

Karen has a great eye for hair color and selecting exactly the right shades to flatter your skin. Gigirenee is my new Hairstylist!!!!! I am so happy that I finally found someone who doesn't take 3 hours to color and cut my hair, listens to what I say about what I want, and gives me the desired results. How refreshing. I really felt that Gigirenee had an interest in what I had to say, which is rare I have found. I have gone to 3 or 4 other high end salons over the past 2 years and I was never REALLY satisfied.
