We would go here anytime! My family has gotten lunch there many times and the food has always been wonderful. They have a nice selection and healthy options for kids. Their bak...

I took a friend here for coffee today and was amazed to find out that the Mad Hatter charges $5.00 for an iced mocha. It was just a bit of coffee and chocolate milk in a plastic ...

great lunch/brunch 7/19/2003

wonderful brunch experience! I come here for lunch (the specials are always very good and I am addicted to the salmon entree), and brought the family for sunday brunch. Delicious food with great service. My kids loved it as well. A bargain for the food quality and courteous staff! Pros: great food, great service, great value more

Closed when it's needed 6/8/2003

For a coffee house to close at 11 on Fri & Sat, and then 4PM!! on Sun is inexcusable. What's a coffee house FOR if not for camping out, and sipping after supper, activities and events. Parking is also difficult if not mpossible on wkdays for lunch. Pros: friendly, casual, innovative Cons: inaccessible (hrs), inaccessible (pking) more

Best Bakery 11/9/2002

We moved to the area 7 years ago and hadn't found a satisfactory place for late night coffee and desserts until we discovered the Mad Hatter's Bake Shop. Pros: Good parking, easy to get to Cons: cafeteria like, counter service more

quiet revolution 10/7/2002

A quiet revolution in food is taking place at this restaurant that has thus far gone unnoticed by our triangle press. The taste of the supremely fresh, high quality ingredients are not masked by heavy sauces and processing. Rather, the natural flavors are allowed to take center stage. The noodle bowls are a fine example. The delicate broth with a fiery red sauce on the side to add at one's discretion allows the natural flavors of the vegetables to come through. An obvious California ""living food"" influence is present. On the other end of the caloric spectrum, the eggs benedict, with hollandaise from scratch, is done in a similar manner with the flavor of the ham and bread paring with the egg and sauce instead of being hidden by it. Tastes as if from a farm b+b run by a gourmet chef. Large portions mean always leftovers for later... Pros: excellent quality, great value, large portions more

impressive gourmet 9/17/2002

The new house specialties are as good or better than the fare at Pop's, Southern Seasons, Elaine's - at a fraction of the cost. Specifically try the gnocci (best I've had in Durham, Chapel Hill or Charlotte), salmon (unbelievably good with an incredibly complex flavor mix) and the crab cakes (just the right amount of spice) - all under $10. How they are doing what they do at such a low price is a mystery. The new owner's previous training at Masa's in SF is shining through with these new additions to the menu. Go for dinner (although the menu is available all day) soon before it gets as busy after dark as it is at lunch. Oh yeah, the desserts are great and the cakes are my most consistently appreciated presents. Pros: great value, gourmet cuisine, fast service more

food is FANTASTIC 9/11/2002

the food here is great!!!! try the bombay wrap, the chicken salad and the daily soup specials (with a biscuit to dip with). i'm not a big dessert person (although my friend had their beautiful and delicious wedding cake from here) but word of mouth said that the new food menu was KICKING.... had tried one of mad hatter's wraps at a catered conference and liked that so thought I would give the place a try. I am sooo glad I did! I am now a true mad hatter FAN - been back three times this week for lunch and am going to drop in on Sunday for their brunch (heard the home fries are wonderful with just a little spiciness...) Oh, I did have a ""black and white cookie"" for dessert yesterday - HEAVEN Pros: inexpensive, quality food, nice people more

Go Here for DESSERT 9/8/2002

i only had dessert here so far (slice of carrot cake plus a bite of my girlfriend's coconut cake), and it was solid - quite good. i've heard from different sources that the regular non-dessert food is OK, standard, nothing special. good location for duke students. conclusion: go here for DESSERT. Pros: scrumptious desserts, little to no wait, inexpensive Cons: limited parking, food is OK more

veggie fast food to go 8/6/2002

as an on again, off again vegetarian i was happy to see that mad hatter's offers so many tasty and filling vegetarian selections. almost all of their wraps are available in both meat and vegetarian forms, and all of their other menu categories have at least one veggie selection. even the daily specials usually have one meatless choice. the food is consistently good, price is reasonable and the atmosphere can't be beat... AND they do everything to go so if I don't feel like cooking at home I have a reasonable alternative for dinner. by the way, the average meal price listed on this site is incorrect (too high) Pros: many veggie choices, to go food, healthy more

undiscovered food gem 7/31/2002

mad hatter's desserts have always been fabulous... happily now their food is wonderful as well. some unsung gems on the menu waiting to be discovered - breakfast parfait with homemade granola, made by hand fries in a sundae dish with three different dips, all the grilled sandwiches but especially the mulfatta (whatever, the new orleans sandwich)... heard the menu is undergoing revision so I look forward to the new stuff - don't get rid of my favorites though! the open airy environment is a vast improvement from the old place, by the way... Pros: innovative food, friendly management, beautiful environment more

Catchy Title 7/29/2002

Everything is good, including new location, new lunch and dinner menu, new and old style sweets, bagel and cream cheese. Pros: Reasonable priced, Good parking, Good Cakes Cons: Men's room door bad more

happy with new place 7/25/2002

i have always loved mad hatter's desserts since moving here - was reluctant to try the new mh because it was not the old one - finally did and was quite impressed. better food than before, more light and style, better service with the same great desserts, live music on the weekends, and interesting decor (the hats have been replaced by modern art exhibit which, they tell me, will be changed every so often) - sometimes change is good! Pros: fun, something for all more

great new food! 7/25/2002

the new mad hatter's has taken all that was great about the old mad hatter's and added wonderful new elements. the new menu is filled with foods that are healthy light and absolutely delicious. i had absolutely no guilt in following my wonderful meal up with a tasty, rich dessert. the new location and decor adds a vibrance to the establishment that before had been missing. i look forward to mad hatter's in its new improved version being a staple in durham for years to come. more

Reputation precedes it 7/14/2002

There's much to like about Mad Hatter's--the decor, variety of menu items, and the quality of their ingredients all appear very good. However, I found their service fairly poor; they didn't get my order correct. Also, my croissant was stale. Pros: Location Cons: Pricing more
