I had high expectations for this restaurant after hearing a good review from a friend. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed by the food, the service, and the overall value...

Disappointing experience on Thanksgiving brunch 11/24/2011

We had a wonderful dinner at Macke's on Mother's Day, so we were ready for a return visit on Thanksgiving. Alas, the quality of food we experienced on Mother's Day was not available. After a so-so salad course, dinner arrived. The turkey was cold, as was the carrot souffle. The roasted sprouts and squash were adequate but uninspired. The desserts were the biggest disappointment. They were out of the coconut cream pie -- and little wonder. The ""derby pie"" and ""pumpkin pie"" were tartlets of about three bites each. The small portions were not the only problem: the crust was soggy and the fillings were about what one would expect from Mama Turney! At $35 per person, such a dessert was a calculated insult. After this experience, we will not return next year. more

Not Sure About Giving Macke's 5 Stars 10/20/2011

I'm in town for a conference and always scout out the restaurants that have 4 or 5 stars. I can usually count on the accuracy of other reviewers, but not this time. Sorry folks...this place was good, but not worth 5 stars. I had the filet, seared asparagus over a corn sauce. Everything I had was tasty and the ambiance was just OK. The restaurant is located in a mall (not that that's a bad thing). The inside of the restaurant wasn't enough of a 'retreat-like' feel so that I didn't feel like I was in a mall. Oh well, I probably wouldn't return. It was too far of a drive for a just OK meal. more

Excellent food, staff and ambience! 10/7/2011

When we wanted to host a small dinner for some good friends we chose one of our favorite Nashville restaurants, Macke's. Jill was so helpful putting all the details in place and the server, Veronica was charming. Macke's private room was much like being in someone's home except when we departed, none of us remained behind to help wash the dishes or cleanup. A splendid dinner evening was enjoyed by everyone in attendance. more

Outstanding Brunch and Event Coordinator 5/15/2011

We needed a location to host a Vanderbitl graduation brunch for myself and a few friends and family members. I contacted Jill Brothers at Macke's and was BEYOND thrilled with her and the rest of the Macke's crew.\r \r The communication with Jill was fantastic- she helped answer and work through all questions I had. She created a fantastic menu for our group and followed up on every email.\r \r The restaurant was perfect for our party of 40 people and the food was delicious. The staff was extremely friendly and very patient with our large party. \r \r I would recommend Macke's to anyone looking to host an event... or even just for a nice meal! Don't let it's hidden location keep you away! more

Outstanding catering 5/1/2011

Macke's recently catered my Dad's retirement party in Bowling Green, Ky. and created a beautiful menu with outstanding service! I was a bit nervous about having someone out of town catering the event, but Jill, Jan and Alvy arrived on time and worked their magic! The flowers were perfect for the occasion, the food was de-lish, and the hospitality cannot be beat. more

Awesome catering, etc! 4/18/2011

Macke's catered my nieces wedding reception this past weekend and exceeded our expectations on every front! The food, flowers and staff were amazing. Jill, Jan and Alvy were such a pleasure to work with and provided us with a lovely event that received many compliments. On top of the delicious food and gorgeous flowers, we had many comments on the kind, southern hospitality their staff provided. We would use them again in a heartbeat! more

Magnificent Macke's 4/15/2011

We used Macke's for a corporate dinner for out of town customers. Jill made the planning process entirely stress-free. She was always prompt to reply to any questions I had and her attention to detail every step of the way was greatly appreciated. \r \r Everyone had wonderful things to say about the food and the atmosphere. We all had the flatbread with shaved prosciutto and the fried green tomatoes ""caprese"" as appetizers and delicious chocolate bread pudding for dessert. Everyone chose their individual entree's and were very pleased. The servers were knowledgable and a great help in making our selections.\r \r We were so happy with our dinner that we have already booked them for our next event. Thank you, Macke's! more

Bridal Brunch Extraordinaire 1/23/2011

I wanted a wonderful, out of the ordinary site in the Green Hills area for a bridal brunch for my niece, her bridesmaids, and out of town guests. \r \r How fortunate I was to find Macke's!! \r \r The restaurant is lovely yet comfortable. The event co-orindator, Jill, was wonderful to work with. She put together a great menu and party setup for the brunch. They even allowed us to have the brunch at 930 am to accommadate the bride's schedule. Tabitha, our server, was ever present and helpful but non-intrusive. \r \r The food was out of this world! We have a wonderful quiche with spinach and cherry tomatoes, a sausage and egg casserole, the best french toast casserole ever, delicious hash browns, bacon (both crispy and not so crispy), blueberry muffins and mimosas. \r \r All of our guests were so pleased with the brunch. The bride was thrilled. My only disappointment is that I do not live in Nashville so I could eat here more often! \r \r Lucky, lucky Nashville to have such a delightful place to eat.\r \r \r more

What did they do to make the Chef walk out? 11/20/2010

Had lunch at Macke's with my girlfriends on Friday as we usually do but it certainly wasn't up to its usual greatness! Our first problem was it took 25 minutes from us ordering to receiving our food! All of us work but have never in the past not been able to enjoy lunch and some girltalk!! Friend had the salad with apples, pears, and grilled chicken. After removing the apples with brown, mushy spots to another plate, she then said the dressing was not like usual and had too much vinegar in it. I had Toby's fried chicken salad (love when we meet up on Wednesdays b/c the fried chicken is a special and is amazing with gravy & mashed potatoes.) and noticed after eating several bites that the chicken was still pretty pink!! Looking at my watch, realized that there certainly wasn't time to send back and actually that we needed to be getting out if we wanted to make it back to work in time!! We wrote it off to a fluke after having so many great meals there (usually go for dinner at least once every wk or two) but learned when the server returned that the chef had walked after the owners mistreating him for some time! Shame on them! I have been coming here since they opened and also to the other restaurant in Kingston Springs and have become great fans of chef Toby and what he has done for this restaurant the last few years!! Also if you get to meet him is one of the nicest people! She said she wasn't sure where he was and that he did have another job lucky for him!\r \r We're gonna go to the other restaurant tonight which has just reopened after moving to Franklin so don't quite know what to expect! \r \r This is my first review I've ever put online and wish it wasn't so bad but I do regularly read reviews on here on places before trying out and wanted to get the word out as I had read other people's posts on such great experiences previously. Hope they are not gone for good!!\r \r Best of luck Chef!! I'm sure others are noticing that things just aren't the same and missing you too!\r more

Nashville's Best Kept Secret 5/16/2010

I had heard about Macke's through a friend of a friend of a friend; delicious food, gorgeous dining room, great service, romantic atmosphere, live piano music. My husband and I wanted to go somewhere nice for a romantic dinner so we made reservations. The girl who answered the phone was very nice, took our information and even offered directions. We found it easily (in case we had printed out our own directions but didn't need them) The parking garage beneath is well lit and an elevator goes right up to the 2nd floor. We were seated immediately at a cozy table. The dining room is beautiful - fresh flower arrangements, crisp linens, beautiful artwork, and live piano music (the piano man, Bob, plays softly and has a lovely voice) The silverware and table linen was spotless - I am particular about clean plates and silverware. In fact the rest of the restaurant, including the restrooms, is immaculate. Our server, Tabitha, was prompt and very descriptive - she gave a great wine recommendation. We ordered the Lobster Mac and Cheese appetizer, which was FABULOUS!! It was big enough to share - very rich and creamy and piping hot. I ordered the rack of lamb and my husband ordered the duck. Both were delicious; the lamb was tender and the bed of cous-cous and a spicy eggplant were an excellent compliment. The duck was one of the best preparations I have ever tried - moist and just the right amount of sweetness from the sauce to balance the richness of the meat. Unfortunately we didn't have room for dessert, but the table next to ours had, what our server told us was, strawberry cake and a chocolate amaretto cheesecake. Both looked divine. We had a wonderful time - Tabitha had just the right balance of attentiveness and our food was delivered with perfect timing. We plan on going back soon so we can try everything else on the menu! Pros: delicious food, beautiful ambiance, excellent service Cons: setback from hillsboro, but easy to find with I-map more

Great Evening!!! 4/23/2010

I am a chef from Charleston SC in town visiting family and took them to dinner last night and was definitely pleased with the choice I made!! I had researched restaurants & menus prior to the trip and this restaurant and the very creative menus posted online stood out from the rest! Enjoyed chef's special of halibut with white truffle vinaigrette, yellow squash casserole with tarragon, & roasted purple potatoes very much!! Finished with a limoncello tiramisu...wishing now as I type this that they served breakfast!! Think I'll be returning to Nashville more often to visit family...and Macke's!! Pros: Creative Menu, Great Food & Service, Neat Atmosphere Cons: Location more

Wonderful place to celebrate! 11/10/2009

I celebrated my 60th birthday at Macke's. The food was delicious, the ambiance was warm, lovely and inviting, and the attention to detail was superb. It was a very personal experience. I think of Macke's as a great place to celebrate but it's also perfect for every day dining. Pros: Fabulous food and ambiance more

The BEST Place in Green Hills 8/29/2009

I have had both lunch and dinner at this beautiful place in the Graces Plaza Mall in Green Hills. I have never been disappointed. I am convinced that this is one of the best restaurants in Nashville, not alone the food is fabulous, and creative, the service is exceptional and the environment is welcoming and lovely inside and out.\r My next meal is the Sunday brunch which I understand is every bit as wonderful as the lunch and dinner. Pros: Beautiful Covered Outside Area Cons: No Signage! more

Excellent! 7/24/2009

What a great last night! The food, atmosphere, service… it was all top class and we appreciate it. Thanks so much for orchestrating a great birthday for Tricia, everything was wonderful! Pros: Everything more

Catering 6/25/2009

I used them for the first time for a catering job in Nashville. Everyone loved the food-fried chicken, corn, mac-n-cheese, bread, brownies, tea-wonderful! They were on time and very pleasant and easy to work with. I will definitely use them again. Pros: Great service, on time, great food! more

How did we not know about this place?! 6/25/2009

I’d noticed tables for a restaurant in the atrium of Grace’s Plaza every time I renewed my car registration the past few years, but I’d never noticed the restaurant’s name outside or heard anyone talk about it. After finally noticing the small sign outside recently and seeing the great reviews, my fiance and I decided to try it out for ourselves this past Saturday. We made a reservation, although we didn't need it. The service was attentive, but not intrusive. I'd highly recommend it for a romantic spot. So many of the newer, trendier restaurants that we love can be very noisy, but Macke's is cozy and quiet. We started with the lobster mac and cheese, which was delicious. I had the scallops, which were cooked perfectly. My fiance had the Southern Paella, which was also delicious. The wine and beer prices were very reasonable. Pros: Good service, great food, nice atmosphere more

anniversary 6/16/2009

My wife and I decided to try this place for our wedding anniversary, and I have to say we were not disappointed. The atmosphere is very relaxed, the staff was very helpful and attentive but not overly so. And the food was out of this world good. We'll be coming back for more! Pros: Excellent Food and Service more

Like outside, only in 5/14/2009

Big fan of MacK & Kate's in Kingston Springs, so I expected Macke's to deliver the goods as well. They sure did, in the form of my favorite comfort food—mac and cheese. I have told at least 20 people about it. Can't stop thinking about it either. Loved the patio feel of the space—definitely an improvement over the bookstore cafe, which was very hit-or-miss. Granted, the kitchen took quite a while to deliver out entrees, but the service more than made up for it. Will definitely be back. Pros: Ambience, food, service Cons: Wait for food more

Excellent 5/6/2009

We had our ""girls night out"" there tonight and it was incredible. Our server was kind and patient with us...we're slow to decide what we want to order :o)\r \r The food was Excellent...you should try the Lobster Mac and Cheese (be ready to share because it's a big dish meant for sharing). I would describe the food as elegant southern or eclectic southern cuisine. So yummy!! You should try the salads...the greens are fresh and the dressing is light is refreshing.\r \r We weren't thrilled with our entree, but I believe it's because we branched out and tried something that we wouldn't normally order. It was tasty and prepared well, but not a favorite. We will go back and try another entree...they all look delicious!!! The presentation was excellent also. Kudos to the chef and many thanks to our servers!!!! The experience was delightful!! Pros: Quiet Atmosphere - Excellent Staff more

Great food - hidden gem! 4/10/2009

I love Macke's and have been several times. The food is always delicious - high quality, fresh/in season veggies, perfectly prepared. The service is very attentive - and you should be sure to save room from dessert. I even had one of the owners stop by and chat last time we were there! Very friendly, charming and yummy! Great for a girls night out, date night or just to treat yourself. Pros: Delicious menu - Changes and never disappoints Cons: none I can think of more
