Worst Experience Ever 11/10/2011

I don't normally do this but after the experience I had I find it necessary to warm my fellow homeowners. Stay away and call someone else!! I called this firm to repair issues with my furnaces after the last storm. After they arrived and assessed the situation I was informed that a relay needed to be replaced on both furnaces and one furnace required a new Auto-fill and low water cutoff. The former thy could replace immediately and the former they would need to confirm the price. After replacing the relays I was informed the cost would be $750. As one furnace was operational and the other partial working I paid the fee just glad that my tenant and I had heat. Imagine my surprise when I found out that the relay described and documented were less then 20 dollar parts and additional components have been replaced. (Pending itemized documentation for the insurance company). After receiving a call from MCP regarding the additional repair estimate of 900 dollars I decided to get a second opinion. Good thing I did the final repairs (low water cutoff and auto-fill repair) came to 450 dollars and I confirmed there operation. When MCP returned as there install prime controller wasn't receiving a call from my thermostat. I was first informed that the replaced component hadn't been replaced and they were bypassed. As I started the heat upon my return home and verified they were functioning when I arrived home in the afternoon, imagine my surprise they were no longer working and the wiring had changed. The MCP tech was unable to communicate why the control head wasn't responding correctly to thermostat to a 10 yr veteran. Although he did inform me that the entire thing need to be rewired and he would be more then happy to fix it for a fee. I wish I had found this site prior to calling. Lessons learned I guess. more

Don't use on the Cape! 8/25/2011

While the plumber was nice and seemed knowledgeable (time will tell if he was), what a nightmare this turned into. He was from the Cape himself, but didn't know where to get parts in my area. Disappeared for 2 hours for parts, despite my telling him of the home center 1 mi from my house. Messed up what he was doing - he apologized a lot. I tried to push him along late aftn. He didn't finish until 7pm. A decent plumber would've spent less than half that time on this project. Took a month to get an itemization of charges from office (plumber wouldn't give me when he was writing up receipt). Company is charging me $1,000, which they say is a discount. Work done: replace toilet tank parts (I had bought the same DIY kit for $11 at Lowes but was reluctant to do myself); caulk (tube=$6) 2 items in bathroom (those 2 tasks took less than 1 hr); supply trip=2hrs; add mixing valve ($120) to existing outdoor shower. I understand that other parts were used and that copper is expensive. I have no problem paying for those, and did. I'm contesting the unreasonable amount of time that was spent (a total of 8 hrs), much of which was the plumber trying to work around his mistakes. I paid 3/4 of the bill, but they have the nerve to threaten me with legal action if I don't pay the rest. I'm in consultation with legal experts and are reporting MCP accordingly. Unfortunately, I relied on the reviews on ServiceMagic and didn't see the CitySearch ones, which were comparable to my experience, until the next day. more

once a crook always a crook 8/19/2011

This guy closed his prior business 2 years ago then reopened this one under the new name; he hasn't a clue what he's doing. Screwed up my kitchen pipes using the 3 stooges for workers and left me with 3 leaking pipes and a 2000 dollar credit card bill, telling me 3 days later he'd closed his business and couldn't do anything for me but would "fix" the problems. He never came back. Cost me another 500 to have someone else fix his "work." He is a crook plain and simple. more

One of worst contractors out there 3/19/2011

He was 2 hours late, His quote was for $160 to fix the leaking pipe. When he found out that the disposal had to be replaced he did not simply add the price of the disposal to the quote ($150). Instead the total bill came to $565. He actually charged us for travel time at $160/hr, which he never quoted on the phone or in person. He did not get an approval from us for the new estimate. He left no receipt for the new disposal, Ask for a written quote, and refuse to pay anything more! more

CONSUMER BEWARE 3/16/2011

MCP's plumber just came to my house to attach a simple side sprayer for a kitchen sink - which I had 2 brand new ones ready to go - the gentleman broke both hoses and had relatively no idea what he was doing. For $135 ($90 / hour + $45 "traveling time" from their office 2 minutes away), I am irked to say the least. Had I gotten over the shock of being suckered before he walked out the door, I'd also have realized he only worked on it for approx. 30 minutes. more

Very Strong Service Department 2/14/2011

I have to say to the contrary of BLAH i think MCP was great. Very well educated service technicians and i have been using them for years. The aren't deceptive they are a local company from Worcester Ma and they don't over charge. If everyone hasn't noticed we are all on hard times right now and the economy sux. They are right on with labor rates and you can check around i guarantee every company charges at least 15 minutes of travel time and well lets face it overtime rates aren't good but they never are. However they have to pay the tech overtime to come to your rescue!! Don't listen to BLAH they are a great company and i am still a satisfied customer of theirs and as long as they are round i always will be a customer of theirs! Now a special thanks to the MCP team you guys Bailed me out last week and i can't thank you enough!! Thanks again sooo much and I'm sure with all my properties ill be seeing you soon!! more

BLAH 2/3/2011

Deceptive advertising, they looked like a local company based on their ad but were not. Charged 15 minutes travel time both ways at 135.00 per hour. Tried to replace a bunch of parts on the boiler that were fine including my circulator pump, told me it wasn't working even though the return pipes were hot? Also told me a check valve was bad because when he took the jam nut off the insides came out, I have been in the business of selling these types of parts for years and they all come apart like that but he made a big deal like he was trying to scare me. Tried to push an electric water heater install on me. Over billed me and when I called to discuss he was very vague as to what he was crediting me, which made sense when I got his check today, what a slap in the face that was. Marked up the list price of the parts he used 30% even though I could buy them anywhere for 50% off the list price. This company will take advantage of you if you are in a night or weekend emergency situation, make sure you call EVERYONE else first. more
