Editorial review from Citysearch 3/22/2013

Hadn't been there in awhile and apparently missed nothing. The food is pretty bland and not special at all. The calamari was too crispy, and cocktail sauce isn't the best choice to offer with it. The soup (white bean) was the most tasteless soup I've had anywhere, and the dinner salad was just some iceberg lettuce with 1 tomato bathed in dressing. Had the veal saltimbocca which was supposed to have a lemon caper sauce, but was more like some awful brown gravy. They have an extensive dessert menu, but nothing was actually available except the tiramisu and only the center filling was worth eating.\r \r The service was below average. The waiter's demeanor wasn't warm and friendly at all. He actually didn't want to give me a new tea bag for hot tea and just wanted to have me use the same one over and over, so I had to specifically request another one. \r \r We were in a booth by the stage area where live music was playing on a Friday, and there's a partial wall opening into the bar area where there's a huge TV which was distracting and very noisy. Will not return. more

Dont waste your time 1/25/2010

Actually this is the first time I am writing a complaint to about a restaurant. Normally, after an expertise like this I just pay the bill and make a mental note to never return. It was so bad that I checked on line to see what others had written and found malalucina?s post. The only thing bad about this post was that it made me relive the whole god awful experience once again. The major difference between their experience and mine was that I did not deal with the manager. I had the fortune of dealing with the most arrogant waiter and busboy on the planet. That?s normally ok with me as long as they are good ? they were not in the least. I would have asked to speak with the manager but I have found over the years that the employees usually mirror the attitude of their manager. It was clear to me that speaking to someone that managed these guys would do no good. I will never be going back. I wish I had Pros: Close to home Cons: Poor food quality, mediocre taste, terrible wait staff more

BEST FOOD PERIOD 7/27/2009

I have been going to this resteraunt for over 15 years and have never had a bad or even OK meal. They've always been GREAT!! Since coming to this counry I have tried many places and nothing compares. I've had many special occassions there. The owners are very nice down to earth and seem to always be there. I think it's a shame that some people make comment's on here to meet there own personal agenda's. Thats just classless! I have a business friend who visits me from chicago. The only place I can take him is Luciano's he's told me outta 83 countries he's visited, 'Luciano's has the best food"". And believe me that say's alot comming from him! If you took Luciano's outta detroit there would be no good Italian resteraunts in detroit. Pros: Atomsphere, food, and the service Cons: parking more

Great Food, Great Service! THE PLACE TO GO FOR SOLID FOOD! 7/24/2009

Have been going to this place for nearly 20 years, since I was a kid. The food is always consistently great! And the price is right for all that you get. Pros: Best Lasagna anywhere! more

Unfortunately - not the place to go for solid Italian food 7/17/2009

Decor: Universal Studios meets Italian town stereotype plus 20 years. Fake brick, fake ivy, fake rooftops, murals of a streetview in ""italy"". The CARPET design is supposed to mimic stones for crying out loud. We should have walked out then. Seating: The restaurant was roughly a 1/3 full, granted, it was about 8 o'clock...so why was everyone seated right next to each other when there were so many empty tables open across the room? Was this for waitstaff efficiency? Is this why we (a couple) and a few other couples were seated next to a family with two extremely energetic (and often scream-y) toddlers? At these prices? Wow, thanks. Menu: Seemed OK, albeit pretty pricey. ""This better be good, wink wink!"" Order: For the Mr - pancetta-wrapped scallops and gnocchi with meat sauce - came with a salad...great! For the lady - octopus salad (had too many carbs today, let's try to reign it in) Outcome: Hair in the wine. Wow. I never had this happen, but...it wasn't really touching the wine, it was just kind of stuck to the inside of the glass. OK. I'm a big girl, I can let it go. I pull it out, let's move on. The Mr. gets his salad. With a long hair in it. I swear. I laughed out loud, because in the span of 10 minutes, 2 hairs? In 2 different 'dishes'? What?! Rightfully so, we ask for a replacement. Salad was Olive Garden quality, but what do you expect...it's a ""it comes with"" salad...no biggie. Here come the gnocchi and my octopus salad! Gnocchi - hmmm. So suspiciously uniform and...meh. Definitely not like how nonna used to make (as many reviewers on this board like to reference) or I actually make, for crying out loud. This could have been forgiven if not for the sauce...watery, and the ground meat was tough as hell. The Mr. reached immediately for the parmesan (in its shaker, of course) to try and remedy the situation. Octopus - hmmm. Is octopus supposed to be tough as an eraser and bland like one too? The flavors in this pre-made salad were passable, but not enough to make up for the protein, let's call it. Listen, at this point, the Mr. and I love food too much to stomach faking our way through this cuisine and experience. After a few bites we asked to have these dishes removed and for our bill. We only had one of the dishes removed from our bill (which was fine, we just wanted to leave) and then, here comes the manager/owner (we don't know since we weren't introduced) The exchange: Him - ""The gnocchi are fresh! They are imported from italy! They are not frozen!"" Me - ""Imported from italy and NOT frozen?! Huh?"" Him - ""The meat sauce is carefully cooked for 6 hours!"" Me - ""No wonder it's so dry"" Him - ""It is not our fault, the quality of the octopus that we get; once we get it, we cook it for 2 hours"" Me - ""No wonder it's so dry"" Listen - I'm not even joking at this point...it really got to this level. Him - ""We are the best italian restaurant in this area! Name me one that's better!"" Me - ""Bacco, Il Posto, Cafe Cortina, Picano's"" Him - ""And they charge an arm and a leg"" Me - ""I'd gladly pay that and THESE prices, which are NOT cheap, for high-quality food"" Him - ""Well, X's kitchen is filthy, would you like to see mine? Ours is spotless!!"" Me - ""The cleanliness of your kitchen is not in question here. I know good food, and this is not good food."" Me - ""Are you sure you want to make such a scene in this 'amazing' restaurant of yours?"" (because yes, it really did get to that level) Him -""You and YOU are never allowed here again!"" Me - ""I don't think you need to worry about that"" Him - ""I don't ever want to see you again!"" Me - ""I don't think there's a chance"" Him - ""Not allowed back in here!"" Me - ""OK. We're saying the same thing here."" Bottom line - you want good Italian food, go to Bacco (AMAZING, recently won an award for this area), Il Posto, Picano's (bit more affordable). Hell, even Luigi's in downtown Mt. Clemens was better than this. Pros: ? Cons: Read on more

Awesome Restaurant! 9/16/2008

We are not from this area and were taken to the restaurant by some local friends of ours; what a FABULOUS dining experience!!!!!!!!!!!!! The food was to die for!!!!!!!!!!! Food, wine, service were all excellant. When we are back in town we will make it a point to eat at Luciano's again! Even if we are staying in the downtown area! Cons: being located in a shopping plaza; however, once inside you do forget about that. more

CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8/5/2008

I WAS VERY SHOCKED WHEN I PULLED UP TO THIS PLAZA AND FOUND THIS AMAZING RESTRAUNT. THE FOOD IS JUST TO DIE FOR. THE BEST BREAD I'VE EVER HAD AND FOLLOWED BY THE BEST ITALIAN FOOD WE'D EVER HAD. WE'VED LIVED IN THE AREA FOR YEARS AND NEVER KNEW ABOUT THIS PLACE. IT WAS PRETTY BUSY THERE I HAD A 20 MINUTE WAIT WICH DIDN'T BOTHER ME BECAUSE I HAD THE BEST CHARBROILED CALAMRI WHY'LL I WAITED!!!!! THE MEAT SAUCE TASTED SO MUCH LIKE MY NONNA'S I ALMOST CRIED THINKING OF HER. THE STAFF WAS GREAT, FRIENDLY BUT NOT OVER DOING IT. MOST THE PEOPLE IN THERE WERE ITALIAN YOU COULD HERE MORE ITALIAN IN THE PLACE THAN AMERICAN. THE PRICE WAS VERY REASONABLE 50 BUCKS OR SO FOR US BUT WE DON'T REALLY DRINK.MY IN-LAWS HOWEVER SEEMED VERY PLEASED FROM THE WINE LIST. THE ROOM WE SAT IN LOOKED LIKE A ITALIAN VILLAGE,VERY CHARMING AND ALOT OF DETAIL.BE BACK SOON Pros: THE FOOD THE FOOD THE FOOD Cons: A LITTLE BUSY ON WEEKEND more

Fantastic! 4/15/2008

Lovely room, service was attentive and expert without being cloying or too formal, food was nearly perfect. I started with the appetizers - spicy salami, olives, bread, prosciutto - delicious - especially the salami, which i have read about but never tried. My wife had a lovely baby arrugula salad. I often judge a restaurant by their salads - particularly the balance between the oil and the acid - hers was perfect. For primi, I had the beef ravioli - sensational. My wife had Sweet Potato ""Lune"" - doubly sensational. For secondi we split the whole branzino - very nice as well. Sides were roast potato's with roasted garlic - they were very nice. the pancetta was in fairly large chunks. We were too full for dessert with 2 glasses of wine. Great food in a lovely setting with terrific service - i consider that a good value - overall - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. more

just like home 8/15/2007

Having been in this country for 5 years i only eat at lucianos. the food is so like home that i eat there at least once a week. i have been to other italian places that people told me go to and its not the same. i tell the waiter anything i want and they make it like i want. You know if its a good italian restraunt if there is a lot of italianos eating there. you cant go wrong with any special pastas. the place is beautiful inside and everyone is so nice. Pros: the food, atmosphere, evening music, large wine selection Cons: parking lot needs to be bigger more

Poor service. Food is good, but comes at a high price with awful service. 5/13/2007

Reservation staff is rude. Not organized in any sense. It's a pity because the food is good. Nothing spectacular for sure. There is better in this city. Just a good meal, though it comes with poor service. Be careful. Cons: lousy service more

BEST ITALIAN FOOD!! 3/19/2007

I love Luciano's! I have been here plenty of times and will always go back. The food is always great- the service could improve but I cant really complain that much, since it was only a few times out of many. When you are there- it feels comforatble and casual with elegance around every corner. For anyone wanting to try some good Italian food for once- you have to go here! Pros: Great food, wine, and atmosphere Cons: Definitely the parking more

Great food, great wine, great song! 1/23/2007

Friendly atmosphere and excellent entertainment. My husband and I went there for my birthday on a Tuesday night. I groaned when I saw that they would ruin my Tortellini with Karaoke. But when the first note came out of that karaoke host girl (can't remember her name), I nearly fell on the floor. You can't get entertainment this good at any restaurant anywhere. We dine out frequently and I can't stand karaoke going on during my meal that I am paying god money for. This girl could really sing and entertain. The best thing is that this karaoke attracted the best singers I had ever heard. They sang songs from jazz to Italian favorites like Al Di La (which was my mammas favorite). The Karaoke girl sang a jazz song and scatted like Ella. Then she sang an Italian pop song that I had never heard. It was just beautiful. She sang this really cute song where she was a Broadway singer and then went into Opera singing and shifted back to jazz singing throughout the entire song. It was hysterical but she nailed it dead on... just perfect. Even the spectators get into it. We ended up staying all night long. You would think that a nice restaurant like this would not have Karaoke but it is tastefully done. Bravi Luciano's! I will now be visiting Luciano's more often on Tuesday nights. I think everyone should, especially if they have certain pet peeves about karaoke. I know I did and now my Italian meal just wouldn't be complete without good wine and good song! ~Marion Pros: Adequate portions, good entertainment, garlic bread Cons: Bar area reaks of cigars more

The regulars are like a family. 1/23/2007

Just a great place for friends and family to gather together. The regular crowd seem to make the restaurant have an ""at home"" appeal. They all know each other and invite themselve to get to know you and make you a part of their ""family"". The food is great, the atmosphere is reminiscent of an Italian Villa, and the warmth of friends and family help make this restaurant a perfect place to dine any night of the week. Pros: Entertainment, wine selection, nice sence of community connection. Cons: Great food but brings on the acid reflux... be prepared more

Average like most Italian resturants :o( 1/14/2007

I can't believe what I'm seeing. People saying this is real italian food.....no way. My dad ordered a pasta arrabiata sauce which should be very easy to make, and it tasted like Little Cesars Pizza Sauce with hot pepper. I ordered the Seafood Picante, but I think they should rename it the Seafood Puzza Tante. I'm not sure if the bad taste was a result of the fish not being cooked or if it was just spoiled, but honestly, it was one of the worst fish dishes I have ever had. The salad was ok, but the italian dressing was your typical generic dressing that you get from a kraft bottle. The soup was good, maybe a little heavy on the salt but not enough to not enjoy (most of the dishes had more salt than what was needed, but you could say that with about 95% of the resturants out there). Also, this resturant has the same problem that most resturants have, the soup and coffee are served warm, not hot. Pros: Garlic Bread Cons: Everything Else more

Best italian food around 7/14/2006

Had a party go to a wine tasting at Filipo Marc Winery and they suggested going there for dinner afterward and were we pleased. We plan on doing it again. more

Great 6/8/2006

Very good food. Really Italian! Friendly. Nice athmosphere. To feel comfortable, you don't have to dress up, but neat casual at the least. Nice small bar area while you wait for the rest of your party to arrive. Prices are in line with top quality restaurants. Pros: Veal is the best. Pasta sauce the greatest. more

not as good as they say 2/25/2006

it took us 20 min. for the waitress to even notice we were there. Then finally when the food started comming the only thing that was good was the appetizers. The salads were drenced in dressing, the soup bland, the pasta only warm, and the fish for the main course was drenched in butter. Pros: mod. priced, tables had cloth Cons: staff, tables too close more

Charming little place 12/7/2005

Hard to believe this restaurant is in a strip mall! The food is very good, the staff is friendly and you just can't beat the price. We always order the specials and have never been disappointed. They do a wonderful job with seafood. The only negative thing I can say is on a Friday or Saturday night, there can be an hour before a table is available and it's difficult to find a spot at the bar. But even so, it's worth the wait. Very charming atmosphere and quite intimate. Pros: Inexpensive, Excellent food, Very good service Cons: Crowded bar area, Long dinner wait more

Excellent food , good prices 10/9/2005

Best food for the buck. Family establishment, no chains here! Pros: Inexpensive, homemade, cozy more
