Keep my kitty alive 1/19/2010

I have been bringing my cat to LFSAH for years. I even stayed with them after I moved across town. My kitty is very special needs and they have gone to great lengths to keep him alive. Additionally, my vet often gives me suggestions to help lower costs. more

Very Gentle 1/12/2010

I wanted to write a review of Los Feliz Animal Hospital because I've had good experiences with them. I found them to be caring, knowledgeable, and very helpful. Their prices seem to be in line with other vets in the area, and they were very gentle with my cat. If you live in the area, I recommend them. After reading the negative comments, I feel that those were isolated incidents and a not a reflection of the over-all high level of care this vet provides. - jmier more

The reviews for this hospital are going to get better and better as they have recently hired Dr. Michelle Fuller. Dr. Fuller is the best vet that I've ever been to. She is so helpful, caring, and thorough. Honestly, I wouldn't go to any other vet in this city. more

Dr. Costin is the best vet ever! He really cares about my pets. He's a nice guy and very well informed. This vet office is pretty pricey....but worth it, if you can afford it. Trust me...I've been all over LA...some of them are pretty bad. One even gave me back the wrong cat one time. more

We LOVE this place! by Bill C. 5 Costin Miron A Dvm - Los Feliz Small Animal Hosp We have old cats (14+ years old), and have been taking them to the LFSMH for a total of 10 years (other 4 yrs were when we lived in the SF Bay Area and there was an animal hospital literally across the street). The vets and the staff are ALWAYS professional and courteous, and our cats are in exemplary shape for the "little old men" that they are. They are starting to show signs of old age, but at 14+, that's to be expected. The hospital isn't cheap, but they know us and our cats, and there has never been a complication of any sort, even when we had to pay over $800, or $600, etc. for tests/operations, etc. They also provided a reference for a cat sitter for when we had to go out of town for an extended period of time; the cat sitters are EXCELLENT, too, and we use them whenever we need them. We rate Los Feliz Animal Hospital VERY HIGHLY and we would recommend them to anyone. We feel very sorry for the others who have had bad experiences, and can understand their anger--their pets are loved ones, and they want the best for them. But we have never had a bad experience there more

I have been going to the Los Feliz Small Animal Hospital for 17 years first with my cat and now with my new puppy. I have always found the front desk staff to be very helpful and professional. I have seen several different vets there over the years and have always been happy with the care with which they have treated my pets. I would highly recommend them to every pet owner. more

Something that comes to mind when writing reviews is thinking about how we treat others in the world and in the case of this review how we treat our pets also. The Dr.s and the staff at the front desk plus the technicians at LFSAH have all been kind, caring , considerate and extremely skilled. Mind you the Gals at the front desk are also professionals some with degrees in science, some parents etc...They have all been wonderful and helpful, put yourself in their place, some days are crazy some days were grouchy...try asking them how their day is going or what their pets names are , instead of the selfish entitled attitudes people carry now a days !!! My cat is 24 years old and has been a patient there for 12 years. She is currently under the care of both the young Dr. C and Dr. H . Ive taken good care of my cat, they see this and without question have provided me with thee best service. Also how can we talk and complain about money when were dealing with another's quality of life ? This is not about bargain shopping. They have also given us excellent references for specialists. Once again everyone at LFSMH is amazing and if you have problems refer to the first sentence in my review again !!! more

Dr Arroyo is awesome! My dog is feeling and looking much better with the medication he prescribed him. Encore's spirits are also much more like his old self again. Great staff-Awesome Vet! Thanks more

We have been taking our cats to your facility for over 35 years. You have always provided our animals with the best of care and kindness. Even during the times that we had to put our animals down, you provided excellent medical care and attention and helped us get through those tough times. The Los Feliz Small Animal Hospital has been a wonderful provider and partner through out the years. We thank you. more

I'm really surprised by the low reviews. Last spring, my landlord's (who lives on the premises) older cat was attacked by 3 coyotes while she was out of town. We didn't find him until the sun came up, he had been under a car wounded for over an hour. After getting him out and wrapped up, I took him to LFSAH because it was the closest vet I could bring to mind since I was new to the area. I won't go into the gory details of how bad the cat's injuries looked, but I was heartbroken and convinced as we drove him to the vet that we were probably taking him to be euthanized, he looked so bad it really looked untreatable. They began treating him immediately when we arrived. They gave the most informative diagnosis, were very thorough in explaining exactly what his injuries and prognosis were (several broken ribs, bruised lungs, throat, multiple bite wounds). The vet was the most knowledgeable I've ever seen and she and the staff were very compassionate and concerned. Everyone there was pulling for him and the vet was determined to save his life. The cat made an amazing recovery and was stable and recuperating after a couple days. After the cat was back to normal, my landlord joked about how I unwittingly took him to "the most expensive place in the city." The total bill for the cat was around $1600, but he was nearly dead when he came in so in the course of treatment had an MRI, surgery, oxygen treatment, and painkiller IVs. That's some serious care, if you had to pay for that kind of treatment for a human it would be a fortune. I'm not certain I would use them for vaccinations or spay/neutering, but if my dogs or cats were ever in a position where I knew I needed a vet to save their life, I wouldn't hesitate to bring them here. more

Dr. Costin does rock! I've had appt.s with the other doctors there, but now I only see him because he is caring and very knowledgeable. In fact, last year my kitty was diaganosed with cancer when I brought him for a regular check-up. I was very upset, and Dr. C was extremely compassionate and made that process as good as it could be. Also, the staff has always been nice to me.... more

Misleading, Unethical.... 7/15/2009

In my experience in going to this facility at various times over the last 12 years, I have found reception and staff to be rude and uncaring and I have found at least one doctor, Dr. Costin (Jr.) to be inept if not incapable of performing his job.  In my most recent visit, I took my cat in due to swelling in the rear legs.  Dr. Costin (Jr.), indicated that he was unable to find any reason for the swelling and actually said he had no idea what the problem could be.  He advised me to go home and see if the swelling went down.  It did not.  After a month I went back to his office and saw another doctor who brought out xrays from the previous visit with Dr. Costin (Jr.) and pointed out a sub lumbar mass that is not only visibly clear but even noted in Dr. Costin's notes.  He actually noted that there was a sub lumbar mass, and then came in and told us that he had no idea what the problem could be.  As it turns out it is a fatal form of lymphatic cancer that if treated at the time of our original appointment with Dr. Costin might have been successfully eradicated.  Being that is an aggressive form of cancer the month that we were misled into waiting was a death sentence to our cat.  I believe Dr. Costin did this in order to bilk us for more money.  What other explanation could there be? more

Love your pet? Go somewhere else. This place is terrible. 10/9/2006

My girlfriend took our cat here when we suspected a bladder infection (she is a Registered Nurse.) She said she was treated very badly from the beginning. She told me the doctor told her that she probably does not take care of the cat and was scolding her. I thought that perhaps she was exaggerating. We take VERY good care of our pet. 6 months later, I brought the cat back when I noticed some peculiar behavior and thought it best to be preventative. I went in and the doctor starts yelling at me. He was terribly accusatory. I just got there and he had nothing to base this on. I was on my way out of town in an hour, so I wanted to leave the cat for observation. He told me (in the first few minutes, after just feeling the cats bladder without doing any tests, and without noticing any irregularity with the bladder) that he might have to operate. I told him to do an observation and run any tests and that he could call and let me know. He started getting rude and that he would not stand by while I was out of town if he had to cut the cat open and have surgery and could not get a hold of me. I got stern and said, "You can at least TRY calling my cell phone, first." He kept talking about surgery and was not going to let the cat suffer because I was out of town. I would have walked out with my cat if I was not on the way to the airport. Anyway, in the end, there was absolutely NOTHING wrong after a two day observation. The bill was $350, that is after I complained about he $500 initial bill. I never ONCE had the impression that they even cared about the pet, or the outcome of the pet. The people I dealt with were rude and bitter and seem to not care about the welfare of the animals. Why suggest “probably” surgery without any information, testing or observation. Shame on Los Feliz Small Animal Hospital. Maybe people are pressured into subjecting their pets on to unnecessary procedures from scare tactics. Go somewhere else if you care about your pet (and your wallet.) more

bad service overpriced 11/29/2005

When I first got my puppy ,I took my pug there for a nail that was partially broken off afraid that I would hurt his paw if I clipped it off at the break. They charged me $150.00 for it and wrapped it in a special 30.00 splint. Now I realize that sometimes happens and when it does you can get a powder from the pet store that immediately stops bleeding for less than $10.00. I boarded them once there in an emergency and they questioned everything my other vet , who has a fabulous reputation, was doing. Without calling and verifying a pet record that was missing and they should have noticed upon check in, they without authorization prescribed shots and an emergency flea shot as well as put advantage on the pug with a severe history of skin irritations after he had already had his dose of advantage that month, which was very unhealthy to over prescribe to a special needs dog. They accused me of not taking care of him which made me feel terrible seeing my dogs are at the vet every other month for something ,and jumped to conclusions because of his itching, not knowing that he had a skin condition . If they would have called his primary vet or me first, they would have seen that he had been in several times that year for his skin condition, hardly neglect. I was repulsed by their behavior and would highly recommend anyone to go anywhere other than there, if its not an emergency. They prefer over billing to quality animal care. more
