I don't know how many times we drove past the Arboretum before my husband and I actually decided to visit the gardens. We took our cameras and all sorts of photography paraphenalia. I spent as much time in the tropic hot house photographing orchids and anthuriums of all sorts...definitely more than I knew of. My husband, on the other hand, reveled in the antics of the male peacocks as they danced and ""flared"" for their peahens. I have to say..in all the years we've been lugging cameras around, the pictures we took that first day at the Arboretum are some of the best. I would definitely recommend visiting the county arboretum if you're looking for a quiet day just wandering through lovely gardens. During the summer, the Arboretum has concerts, but they have classes all-year-round. You can take Tai Chi, flower arranging, cooking with herbs...it's definitely a community attraction. Yes...it's in Arcadia...yes...it's not in the center of Los Angeles but it's definitely worth the drive and the few dollars it costs. Go visit!!
