Best

This is place has the best fried fish I have found in North Carolina. The London style of fries are not what I am used to but do grow on you and are tasty. Not a 4 star dining ...

Worst

The food is great but I wil not be surprised if they lose all their customers to poor service. Pros: Great Food Cons: Terrible Service

Best Fried Cod in N.C. 7/25/2008

Best Fish & Chips in America 6/15/2008

I've been in America for Years and never been able to find even half Decent Fish & Chips. Going to London fish and chips was like running up to the local Chippie back Home. The Fish was Hot & Delicious, The Chips were Excellent and I Don't know what people are going on about the Girls behind the counter, They were Very Polite & they made me Laugh. The service was Great! To all of those people who go out to Eat with the soul purpose of Complaining why don't you Just Stay home. I Give them 5 Stars and Can't wait to Eat there again.... Pros: Great Decor, Great Atmosphere, Awesome Food Cons: Nothing bad to say... Well not about the Restaurant at least, I hope they get Nicer customers more

Long Wait BAD FOOD 5/31/2008

A friend told me a fish & chips place opened nearby and I thought great lets give it a try. The staff looked as if they had better things to do and the place was'nt that crowded. The food took forever to arrive and if you your with a bunch of kids you know how that could be. If I did'nt already pay I probably would have walked out. The fish was tasteless and a bit expensive for what they give you. The fries were just ok. There are other places to eat nearby and I wish I went to one of them instead. This place will not be seeing my business anytime soon. Cons: Many more

TERRIBLE SERVICE and NASTY STAFF 5/31/2008

Tried this place out for first time and was Very disappointed. I ordered a basic Fish & Chips dish and a beer which was luke warm. I sat there and drank the beer and waited for 30 minutes when I asked my wife How long have we been waiting here? I drank the beer from the can because the glasses they gave us were filthy. She went to check on the order and the girl said 2 minutes more. After 10 more minutes I asked for my money back because we had to go at this point. The kid making the dishes sucked his teeth and looked at me and the nasty girls behind the register gave me back my money, slammed the register and said ""Have a nice day"" (In a not so friendly tone) But hey.....at least they greet you on the way out. And by judging from some of the other reviews I'm glad I did'nt get a chance to try the tasteless, greasy fish. They have a sign stating that they add salt to every order. Don't waste your time or money on this place. Cons: Bad Service, Pricey and filthy more

Excellent Batterd Fish and Chips 5/9/2008

Excellent Battered Fish & good Chips, I would recommend this to everyone! The Mushy Peas were slightly over salted but very good. The service could be better but the restaurant was clean and the tables were also clean. Pros: Excellent Fish and Chips, I highly Recomend the Haddock Cons: Service needs work more

Where's The Fish?!! 4/26/2008

Hugely disappointed. Original owners delightful, that's not the problem. You don't get any fish with your fish & chips. I wouldn't mind the price if I could get more than a decent bite or two of fish from a large order!!! I just quit going. Note: the restaurant may have changed owners. The service deteriorated. I last went with a party of three. We were all served at least 6-7 minutes apart. When I finally got mine, the first of us was long since finished. The ice tea is outstanding as are the mushy peas, and the chips are pretty good. But paltry servings of cod defeat the whole purpose of going there. I would go there all the time if only I got my money's worth. Cons: Fishless Fish & Chips more

will be out of business soon, all oddities described in reviews evident Thursday night 04/24/08 4/24/2008

The fish is what you would get @ 0300 in a London takeaway, I will give it that. Get fish elsewhere. more

Unreliable Hours of Operation! 4/23/2008

OK ... hold on!! I just tried (unsuccessfully again!) last night (4/22) and although I called to check their phone message (I've learned from erratic business hours!) the sign still says ""Closed For Spring Break"". Based on what I have read, it looks like it said the same thing on April 9th. That's a mighty long Spring Break, unless you are a Year Round School Student - NOT a business owner! I've tried to eat here 5 times now ... I was successful ONCE! That one time, the food was very good - as you can probably tell since I've tried to go back. I even tried to send a message from their webpage to ask about their hours, but I've never gotten a response! I hate to say it, but this was it for me. My time, not to mention my gasoline, is worth more than their hit-and-miss service provides! I won't go out of my way again, and will share that opinion with anyone who asks. Pros: Great food - When they are open! Cons: Unreliable hours of business! more

London Fish and Chips - overrated! 4/21/2008

I really don't see what the big deal is about this place. We went here right after Greg Cox reviewed it and it was closed. When I emailed Greg, he said the owner had been experiening some personal problems. Pros: Plenty of parking if the place is open. Cons: Got order wrong, food just so/so, price not particularly low, erratic hours. more

Erratic hours-VERY disapointing !! 4/18/2008

I just called to see if they were open for lunch (Fri 04.18.08 1230pm) and was told they were not by Russ the owner. He said they'd be open on Monday ! What is going on with this place??!! Is he TRYING to close down or what?! My wife and I live 1 mile away and ""did"" frequent it on a very regular basis. We haven't been back there in quite a while due to the erratic hours of operation. Too bad this place can't get it together-great food POOR service and hours. Bummer-I guess we'll have to settle for a chain restuarant. Pros: Great food Cons: Erratic hours-can't depend on them to be open for business ! more

When bad things happen to good fish and chip places 4/7/2008

I went this past Saturday and was hugely disappointed. It was probably the most bizarre situation I've ever encountered in a restaurant. And as a preface, my husband and I once loved this place - it had the only truly authentic English fish/chips in area. Pros: Authentic Fish and Chips, mushy peas Cons: slow service, erratic hours, apathetic staff more

Great Food, service needs attention... 4/4/2008

I was very excited to see a new place to get some authenic fish & chips, so I tracked down this small place for lunch. Pros: Great decor, good fish. Cons: Slow service, cold chips more

London Fish & Chips 3/19/2008

na Pros: Good food Cons: erratic hours (closed when supposed to be open-even after calling ahead to check) more

Cannot recommend this place 2/29/2008

A group of us went there based on Greg Cox's review in the N&O. There were 8 of us, and we went on Wednesday night just before 7:00 PM. Not everyone in the group had gotten there when the first 5 of us placed our orders. To be fair, the staff was trying to ensure that our meals all came out at the same time, but we still waited a good 30 minutes for our food. What we got was bland-tasting greasy food with too much batter. I don't think the oil was hot enough to cook in. The fench fries were soggy and cold, as was my friend's veggie burger. The mushy peas had no flavor except for he lard that was used in them. All in all, this was probably the worst meals I've had in a long time. more

Best fish and chips! 2/27/2008

I?ve been here several times and the food and service is outstanding. I?ve never had to wait a long time for my food and it has always been great. So if you want great authentic fish and chips this is the place to go. Oh and on a side note to the reviewer who wrote it smelled like fish, it is a FISH and place. Pros: Food and service is good Cons: It is a small. more

Horrible experience 2/23/2008

We arrived 10 mins before the restaurant opened on a Saturday night. There were already about 15 people in line. (I took this as a good sign at the time, but now I just wonder what is wrong with all of these people -- maybe they were all first timers, like me). We waited in line ~30 mins to place our order (this does not count the 10 mins outside before they opened). Unfortunately, I ordered only a single beer. I did not realize at the time that we would be waiting an additional 50 minutes for our food. Needless to say, my wife and I finished our beers well before our food came, but I really did not feel like getting back in line for 30 mins for another. I would say the food was okay, nothing great. Quality fish, good batter, but too greasy for my taste. The chips were average, nothing special at all. DEFINITELY NOT WORTH THE WAIT. Plus, there is no service to speak of. You wait in line to order your food, you go pick it up at the counter when it is ready, you clear your own table so that somebody who has been standing hovering near your table for 45 mins can finally sit down. And they have the audacity to encourage you to tip. For what? We paid $30 for 2 beers, fish and chips that took 50 mins to serve after we waited in line for 30 mins. They should've given us free beers for their poor service. Maybe then I would consider going back. Cons: The wait to order your food, the wait to get your food, no service more

Not worth the wait.... 2/15/2008

Wait of one hour, restaurant is way too small and stinks of fish and fried everything. Cons: Greasy and heavy food, plastic everything to eat with, Wait more

Great fish and chips 2/3/2008

This small restaurant in a strip mall was bustling with customers on the Saturday afternoon I visited. I knew it had to be pretty good since the line was at the door, and the few tables they have were all taken. You place your order at the counter after reading the menu on the huge chalkboard, you have a direct view of the fryers and can see the fish coming out. They also serve beer here which goes well with the fare. I got the cod half portion which was plenty of food. They put salt and vinegar on everything, but the vinegar flavor is not strong at all and I found myself adding more at the table. It took a surprisingly long amount of time for our order to finally be ready, I'd say we waited about 30 minutes. Everything was piping hot when it arrived. For fish and chips I'd say this is the best I've eaten. However, be warned if you are not used to eating a lot of fried food, this is very oily. Eating all this eventually caught up to me and my digestion suffered for the rest of the day. While I like the concept of this restaurant and the quality of the food is good, I won't be eating this more than once per year. Pros: best fish and chips around, good value, beer Cons: small place, hard to find a table when crowded, food is very heavy and oily more
