Fantastic computer shop! 9/14/2008

I didn't write the previous review attributed to me. The computer I got from general nanosystems is top notch and the service is great as well. To the anonymous coward who stole my identity to write a bogus review, GET A LIFE! Pros: Great service, cheap prices more

General nano bad service and people 7/21/2008

I bought computers from these guys and they ticked me off a bunch of times. There counter help is a bunch of idiots. There tech support not much better. I seen some other guy here posted didnt like them much--I'm with you, bro.\r \r By youre puters anywhere but GNS. your better off bying from cragslist or ebay.\r \r Chris mankey\r St. Paul, Mn Pros: cant think of nothin Cons: everything else more

Products: so-so, selection: good, prices: a bit high, staff: incompetent and arrogant, customer service...abysimal 7/21/2008

This odd little duck of a business seems to do a brisk business with the hobbyist crowd. However, I would strongly discourage any casual PC user or serious business user from wasting their time with this little ""screwdriver shop."" You will be frustrated...guaranteed. I've read a few negative blog postings about these guys, so apparently, I'm not the only one who has been rubbed wrong by this shop.\r \r The selection is great, but my praise ends there. Rude customer service, incompetent (and virtually non-existent) tech support, and high prices make General Nanosystems a place to avoid.\r \r I spent weeks going round and round with these clowns over some compatibility issues they should've ironed out on the first visit. I spent several hundred more on this notebook PC than its equivalent from Dell would've cost, PLUS had to spend hours of my valuable time constantly returning it so that their trained chimps could look at it and scratch their heads in bewilderment. In between, playing phone tag with their tech support (which is only open a few hours each day). They eventually got it right...but only after I devoted much of my valuable time pressing them on the issue. All this for a basic APPLIANCE. It ain't rocket science, people!\r \r Get a Dell. Do it right and have it up and running out of the box. We all have better things to do than play games with amateurs. Pros: Nice website, wide selection. Cons: Inability to understand business customer needs, poor tech support, lied to me several times. more

mediocre and overpriced 1/18/2008

A bit about me: multicertified IT pro for 15 years, so this is not the opinion of a newbie or non-tech--your mileage may vary.\r \r I find these guys snooty: if you're not running the very latest gaming setup with blinky lights and stuff they look down on you. I've sent non-technical clients and family there and they've all found the place dripping with derision. Helpfullness rises exponentially when you start really throwing money around (i.e. a total new system) but to me thats not customer service.\r \r They also are not knowledgeable when it comes to real technical issues like networking, power supplies, etc. In other words their knowledge is a mile wide and an inch deep. \r \r And when they dont know something they just pretend. When I worked at a local PC/Apple retail joint I fired people who pulled that because it isn't in the interest of the customer or the store.\r \r Add to that that they are consistently overpriced (and*really* gouge on cables and other little stuff) and I think your better off online or another local PC place. I use them in a pinch but rarely. Pros: have some nice gear Cons: unhelpful, expensive more

Great customer service..... 6/3/2007

I was upgrading a computer with a new motherboard and ran into an odd problem. I had an idea of how to fix it but didnt have to hardware necessary......First, I took it to a local computer store and the lady there didnt know what the hell she was talking about...she couldn't help me....then I tried General Nanosystems....the guy there helped me out right away and we identified the problem and fixed it quickly....He didn't charge me alot for it either. I ended up buying a few things extra. They have knowledgeable staff with excellent service. I'd recommend them! Pros: Knowledgeable staff...lots of computer support services available. Cons: It's not close to where I live! more

Great prices! 1/28/2007

My computer started acting up and I had no idea who to call that could fix it. My first thought was Best Buy. When I call them they said it would be $70 for the diagnostic test and $199 if they had to redo everything. So of course I didn't go to them. I searched for a place on citysearch dot com and picked General Nanosystems because they had a had a decent rating and good reviews. The service was great and come to find out my computer was infected with viruses. It only cost me $75!!! My only complaint was no one called me to tell me it was ready for pickup but that's OK. My computer is working great and I couldn't be happier with General Nanosystems. I would recommend them to everyone. Pros: Service, Knowledge, Great Prices Cons: No one called to tell me when it was ready for pickup more

Great Value, Custom-Made Computers 7/29/2002

I will never buy a computer from a megastore like Circuit City or Best Buy again. With just a little hardware knowledge, you can upgrade your current computer or get a custom-made computer (or put your own together) for a MUCH cheaper price than anywhere else I have seen. And the best part is you can get exactly what you want because you pick out all of the parts yourself - you don't have to settle for the package deal that megastores offer which may include hardware/software you don't need or want. Pros: Knowledgeable Staff, Very Low Prices, Many Options more
