A great montessori environment 5/2/2010

My son has been going to the Little Blossom Montessori School since the fall of 2009. My son is of the slightly shy and reticent type who does not take to new environments or people easily and both my wife and I were a bit apprehensive on how he would adjust. Surprisingly for us he loved the place and fit in almost instantaneously. I attribute that to the extremely warm and caring atmosphere the teachers have created here. The next time I got to see at close quarters the progress he has made since joining was when we went to the school to help celebrate his birthday. They have a very cute ritual everyday where a child is asked to hand out flags of countries, around the world, to other kids. The child then calls out the name of a country and the kid holding the flag hands it back. The kids could identify flags of Austria, Australia, France etc. – amazing. The teachers are also very mindful of individual preferences and cases like peanut allergies. They teach kids about food and healthy living at that young an age. My son was looking disapprovingly the other day when I unconsciously threw a can into the wrong garbage receptacle. Without a word he retrieved the can and put it in its right place. Obviously he learned that from school. And I have learned from him for sure. The school is in a new building, very well lit and has a beautiful playground for the kids to play. I would highly recommend this school to parents living on the south side of Naperville or east Aurora. Pros: Very good teachers, very good learning environment Cons: No negatives more

Great Montessori school for your 3-6 year old 4/22/2010

I highly recommend Little Blossom Montessori. My 3 year old son has been attending since August. Prior to attending Little Blossom he was home most of the time (other than some park district classes that met for only 2-3 hours per week). I mention this because my son was very attached to me and afraid of being out of the home. For this reason - I was concerned about his ability to adapt to preschool environment. However, Ms. Siji and the other teachers did a fantastic job of supporting and nurturing my son through his transition. Every day at drop off - Ms. Siji would come and give my son the extra attention he needed. Each of the teachers has wonderful nuturing qualities. In a short time (1 week) he was already telling me the exciting things that he was learning at school. My son has made great friendships and has become much more independept in a short amount of time. \r In addition to the social growth - my son has also learned so much. More important - he's excited about learning! He looks forward to being able to read like the 'big kids' in his class and works diligently on his sounds. He also loves learning about science (animals, dinasours, plants, etc), geography (planets, continents, countries, flags, etc) and practical life (how to peel a carrot, pouring). I am amazed at both the breadth and depth of topics he's learned this school year.\r Finally - I am impressed by the school's communication and commitment to parent involvement. Little Blossom does a great job of sending out newsletters to let the parents know what the class has been working on. They also send wonderful pictures of the children 'in action' to help us feel like we've been a part of their daily learning journey. Best of all - the school plans wonderful activities for the parents to attend (school field trips and classroom programs). I really enjoy these opportunities to see my son in his environment. \r You will be making a great decision by enrolling your child at Little Blossom. Pros: Great teachers, Wonderful classroom, Safe/Nurturing environ more

Wonderful Experience 4/20/2010

This is my daughter's second year at Little Blossom Montessori and we couldn't be more pleased with the school and her progress. She has become so much more independent - from wanting to make her own bed to actively helping around the house - setting tables, etc. She has also progressed in so many areas academically - exposure to science, life cycles, planets, math, geography and language work... I could go on and on as there is no end to what she could investigate and learn in this classroom! I know that my daughter is safe and extremely well cared for at Little Blossom Montessori - the teachers really care for all the children. It is a loving and nurturing environment that positively shapes their behavior and attitudes without the children even noticing! :) I am so pleased that my daughter will be attending kindergarten here next year - I cannot imagine any other option that would more enriching and fulfilling for her. I absolutely recommend this school to anyone! Pros: Strong academics, nurturing environment more

Excellent choice for your preschooler! 4/19/2010

We feel Ms. Siji and her engaging classroom have been a beautiful influence on our son’s life over the last year. Academically, our son’s concentration skills, ability to hold a pencil and actually write his name, recognition of sounds and letters, and understanding of numbers have improved dramatically. He has been introduced to concepts I previously thought were beyond his age – but he has embraced them, and retained them: continents, flags for our countries, historical figures, planets, environmental topics (like the importance of saving water), parts of the root, even words and songs in a second language (French). He takes great pride in whatever “works” he has brought home for us to see – from workbook pages to a handmade card or picture. He also now asks me to sit down and practice writing with him instead of the other way around! Personally, our son has developed valuable social skills being with his peers and teachers each day. At home, we see a new found sense of peace in his independence. He dresses himself and gets ready for the day with little parental help, will pick up his toys and put them in their proper places without being asked (much of the time!), and is a cheerful participant around the home-offering to help me with any task I happen to be working on. I feel my son is safe in the school when I leave him for class and find him happily playing on the secure and somewhat secluded playground with his friends and teachers at pickup. Ms. Siji is always accessible and has been very approachable for any concern we have faced this year. I feel she really knows my child and truly cares about his growth. Works are often rotated to keep the interest of the children and the classroom is a very inviting space for them. You will be amazed at how your child will truly blossom in this environment! Pros: Cheerful Classroom, Advanced curriculum, Safe environment Cons: Can't think of any! more
