Phil Yamin's Top Dish 6/8/2011

Phil Yamin’s Top Dish\r At The Lion & Rose\r \r Fabulous Food, Fabulous Service and just a great place. I’ve been to the Lion & Rose many times and enjoyed it. But my eyes were really opened to this great concept when I had lunch with their marketing manager Katie Thompson. After tasting many of the restaurants great entrees I decided to chose Langostino Tilapia as my Top Dish. It’s an incredible pan seared filet of fish topped with langostino lobster and a delicious white wine sauce served with 2 sides. I had parmesan broiled tomatoes and perfectly seasoned green beans. The menu is huge with something for everybody all with British and Yank flavors. Shepherd’s Pie, Yorktown Strip, Country Fried Chicken, Open Faced Turkey Sandwich. Kids are welcomed with a terrific kids menu so families are encouraged to come and enjoy. Try the Guinness Mac & Cheese. People have said The Fish and Chips are better than London’s or the best they’ve had since London. The Lion & Rose was voted the best Sports Bar by San Antonio Magazine. You can watch any sports event anytime. It’s San Antonio’s official Soccer Bar. There is a Brunch served every Sunday and Lunch Specials during the week featuring an express lunch for only $6.99. For those veggie lovers there’s plenty of vegetarian dishes available for you to choose from. \r All 4 of The Lion & Rose Restaurants have a Private Room for business lunches and parties. Allen and Elena Tharp have a great concept that is consistently good in every aspect. They have paid attention to every detail of the restaurant and you can tell from the moment you walk in.\r They always listen to feedback from their customers and are constantly updating and adding new items to their wonderful menu. When you go to the Lion & Rose tell them you came in for Phil Yamin’s Top Dish, Tilapia Langostino. The Stone Oak location at 700 E. Sonterra Blvd is one of 4 great locations. 210 798 5466. Bad Form 11/14/2009

Went to the Broadway location in San Antonio, specifically for the Ireland v France World Cup Qualifier match on Nov 14th. Called ahead of time to confirm that match was being shown, asked prior to ordering anything if the match would be show, affirmatives in both instances. Well, we had a couple of pints, ordered some food and what do you think. Game time rolled around and we stared at screens with a ""no signal"" message for THE ENTIRE FIRST HALF while our waitress assured us that the game would be shown. I must say that this place was half full with lads in green looking for the game and that they continued to make assurances and sell, sell, sell for the entire time. By halftime, our waitress was sent around to inform everyone that due technical difficulties, the match would not be shown and that she would call the other locations to find out if they were showing it. Everyone at the pub, including management knew that there were ZERO other bars in San Antonio airing this match. Why even put something like that out there? So now we have a pub more than half full of Irish fans, who only showed up for this match and a promise of a pointless phonecall was all that was done to atone for the situation. How about knocking a pint or two or an order of food off the check? How about offering something, anything for the people who went out of their way to get to this location, only to be baited and switched with tales of ""technical difficulties""? I must say, I've been to pubs for matches and NEVER have I seen this, the match has always been on, in fact, everyone has been ready for any possible difficulties up to two hours before. These people didn't bother changing the channel until exactly 2PM, virtually guaranteeing that any difficulty would result in a no show situation. Really does make one wonder if the match were ever to be shown. Needless to say, I won't be returning and they have some work to do to get anyone besides college students to care about this below standard location. Oh and the food we did order was rubbish and extremely overpriced, $9 for an order of hot wings and I don't think there were 9 wings on the plate. Pros: Good Beer Cons: Poor Management more

Experience tainted by poor management 11/19/2008

My wife and I recently relocated to San Antonio from Germany and had heard great things about the Lion and Rose Pub. Overall the experience wasn't bad, however, I usually don't write reviews but I felt compelled to comment after our experience. Bottomline, I had to send my fish back twice for not being cooked. The waitress was super and I'd give her a an ""A"". My wife's curry dish was great and the fish special was new, so I can cut the cook some slack and give them a ""B-"". As for management, I'd have to award them a solid ""F"". Despite the server's attempt to get them to take care of us the person never came by and charged us full price for the meal, eventhough I ate long after my wife had finished her meal. With so many great restuarants in the area, we won't be going back simply because the Lion and Rose Pub's leadership just doesn't get it. I hope you have a better experience. Pros: Decent food and relaxed atmosphere Cons: Very poor management more

Loved the place 7/19/2008

Made a point of going to L&R over the 4th of July weekend and went at a 11 AM Sunday right when they opened. I was curious to see how they would handle it and what kind of food we would get. When we went in the place was immaculate! You couldn't tell that they were open til 2 AM that morning. We sat in a booth that was very nice and had a very cozy feel to it. The interior was great with wood all around, a place where you could sit (like a living room) and talk among friends if you didn't need to sit at a table or the bar.\r \r It was a little too early me for a pint but they definitely have a great selection of draught British and Irish beers at the bar (Bass, Guinness, Harp, Smithwick, Boddington, etc). I ordered the Shepherds Pie which was excellent. My wife ate her Beefeater?s Pub Burger which she said was fantastic and my daughter said her King William?s Turkey BLT was excellent! We were truly surprised to find the food that good that early @ a pub. We then finished the meal with Guinness Chocolate Ice Cream. The flavor of Guinness was right @ the end of each bite and it was a treat. I'm not a chocolate ice cream lover but I could definitely go for this ice cream.\r \r At the end my daughter requested a L&R t-shirt and I wanted a L&R pint glass. They were out of the glasses in the display case but the manager had the waitress get one from behind the bar with the L&R logo and a saying by George Burns about drinking on the reverse. Everyone was friendly and the food was excellent. If you want to watch sports this place is also for you because you can't turn around without a TV to watch. I enjoy watching English Premier League football and if I lived in SA I would love to watch it here on a Saturday or Sunday morning.\r \r I definitely look forward to my next visit there! Pros: Great food and service more

One of our favorites; consistently great food 7/4/2008

We've returned several times. The food has always been great quality, lots of it and we haven't had a ""so-so"" dish yet. Also, great selection of draught beer. Most of the time the staff has been very friendly & attentive, although with our last visit it was hard to find the server(she seemed more interested in chatting w/the bartender). I love the fish & chips, the ribs are delicious, love the ""bubble & squeak"" potatoes! For dessert, we've always gotten the chocolate cake(big, moist & rich, fantastic w/dark beer, really!). Plus, this place has a warm, cozy ambience. This restaurant continues to be one of our favorites. Pros: The food, ambience, draught beer selection Cons: A little out of the way more

Good food and drink 6/7/2008

Great Food Service and Ambiance 3/18/2008

We have visited several times and I mean to write a review, after the last visit finally decided to just do it. \r The Pub is very consistent with great service and good food, excellent drinks. A casual atmosphere and great service enhance the dining experience. We held a staff meeting here and although they promised a set gratuity they left it up to us to tip, again it was very well done and although it was first visit for many I am sure that many will return. It is just good food and service price is moderate. Pros: Food, Service, Drinks and Value Cons: On one visit we were seated in an area where it was to dark to read the menu, boy is that nit picking. more
