Best

I have had the pleasure of dining at this restraunt several times. I just love every dish they serve, not to say I've had them all, but ALMOST. My ultimate favorite is the Chuleta...

Wonderful! 4/28/2003

I was so surprised to read the reviews below. I had a wonderful experience the last time I was at Limon. The food was excellent and the service was fabulous. Everyone was happy with the entree they had selected. I can't say enough good things! Pros: Good Value, Excellent food, Wonderful Service Cons: Little noisy more

phenomenal 4/25/2003

Checked out this place after all the wonderful reviews and confirmed why this place is one of the best in town. Best ceviche I've ever had, my boyfriend had the pork chop and we still have dreams about the food. Service was very professional, waiter was very helpful and made us feel very welcome. Try the empanadas!!Definitely tha best latin place in the mission. Pros: outstanding food, great value, great service Cons: crowded, too noisy, parking more

Worst Service Ever 4/6/2003

I went with a group of 30, and made reservations 5 weeks in advance. Our food was thrown at us, and taken away before we could finish. When we were having dessert, the owner nicely asked us to leave becuase he had other reservations that were waiting. There is no way to ask nicely even though he tried. We spent a few thousand dollars there and the food was good, but service was absolutely aweful. Also, I called ahead and asked if there was a corkage fee and how much it was, they said becuase of the size of the group they would comp it, when the bill came, there was $300 in corkage fees and a refusal to take the charge off. The place is extremely mismanaged and the service was aweful. If their service matched the quality of the food, it would be a great restaurant. Pros: Great Presentation, Quality Ingredients, Excellent Peruvian Cons: No Parking, Bad Service, Mismanaged more

Letdown 4/6/2003

We had no complaints about reservations, service, or ambience. The problem is, the food is just plain. Lomo saltado, ceviche, empanada, pork chop -- all were flavorless and uninspired. It really is just a meat and potatoes joint, undeserving of the hype. You will be disappointed. Cons: Boring food. more

poor service drags down great food 3/29/2003

I recommend this restaurant for the food but not for the service. As other reviewers have posted, it's bad. The waiter had a little attitude. Then when things got busy, he just forgot about us completely. No water was refilled, no checking in, etc. To make matters worse, we had a party of 6 so were charged an automatic 18% gratuity. They provided us with a minimal level of service that barely warranted the standard 15%. If you go, go on a weeknight, when it's less crowded. The food will be great (especially the ceviches) and hopefully the service will be less harried and friendlier. more

Phenomal feasting! 3/27/2003

I can't adequately convey just how fabulous the fare at Limon is. It is a momentous event for me to find myself in the Mission, but Limon is definitely worth it. Great family atmosphere, friendly staff, and gracious owner. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a scrumptious dinner (and a rock bottom price!) Pros: Incredible food, Friendly staff Cons: Tough parking more

Not worth your time 3/25/2003

We were so excited to try Limon... The food was below average, service was poor and pricing was a bit high for the food. Try Destino instead. more

Never Made It To The Restaurant 3/24/2003

On saturday evening @ 5:45, we got a call from the Limon hostess saying that they were way over booked and could not honor our 8:00 reservation (for a party of 4 that was made one week before!)We needed to come in either at 6:30 or 9:30 ! We refused, told her it was unacceptable and would make other arrangements. Never in my 17 + years in the resturant business have i ever, ever heard of this happening! I completely understand being overbooked which is a blessing in this day and age, but call us and let us know if you will not be able to seat us right away and give us the OPTION of moving our reservation. more

Too bad the staff was so RUDE!!! 2/3/2003

The food was great but after asking for water 3 times and having the host ask us to hurry up and leave several times, I don't know if I would go back to this tiny place. The staff was very unprofessional, rude, and started clearing/cleaning the table as soon as they saw we were finished eating. This is not a good place for more than 4 people. Pros: food Cons: noise, staff more

Saucy 1/20/2003

Can I have a spoon with my dinner? It's either that or lots of bread to make sure I can scoop up all the sauce on the plate. I know I'm not alone when I try to drink the Ceviche juice. Yes, It's loud, but every Peruvian I know is loud. Make reservations or be prepared to wait, this tiny place can only accommodate 40. But believe me, it's worth the wait. Pros: Great Food, Nice Paintings, Family Owned Cons: Loud when busy, Always Busy more

Magnifico! 1/13/2003

Limon is truly divine! We thoroughly enjoyed our visit! We had a group of 7 people for 6:00 reservations on a Saturday. The noise level increased as the evening went on, but wasn't unbearable. You must order the pork chop! Excellent! Same with the empenadas! The service was great, and they let you try the wines before you order a bottle! We'll definitely go back! Pros: Great Food, Excellent Service, Fun Atmosphere Cons: Noisey, Horrible Parking, Need Reservations more

As good as Delfina, really! 12/16/2002

I've been to Limon twice and I really like it. The first time we had the ceviche Limon with mixed seafood and the lomo saltado (steak stir-fry with tomatoes and french fries served with rice). This time we had the ceviche again--I love how they serve it with a bit of yam to cut out some of the sourness. We also had the Niman Ranch pork loin which was divine. The mushroom ragout was so rich and pork portion was very generous. The food here is as good at Delfina without all the snobbiness. Pros: nice staff, good appetizers Cons: too loud, too small more

Seafood 10/29/2002

I took some out-of-towners there, who had been to Peru, they thought the food was better at the restaurant than in Peru. I recommend one of the many seafood choices, the pork chop was dry(as expected), the food overall was a bit over salted. Good sangria, don't eat all the fruit(lots of citris rind). I enjoyed it, but probably wouldn't go back. Oh! They gave us someone eles's to-go box... Pros: Quick appetizers, Friendly staff, Latin atmosphere Cons: Seats near restroom more

Best Chocolate cake ever! 10/22/2002

Yum, The food was good. Especially the mussels in coconut cream with safran. The real wow was the cake with bourbon sauce...I could taste it for hours afterwards...The place itself is small yet comfy. Very loud and latin. Reminds me of Miami. I love that though. Staff was excellent. I will definetly go back! ruby Pros: great cake, great service, great wall colors Cons: loud, small, crowded more

trendy, nice place 10/21/2002

My first try at Peruvian food. Not bad. The waiter was quite helpful. My girlfriend tried the ceviche (sp?). It was very nice. What rocked was the sangria! Other than that I will probably come back. But be sure to make reservations or come to dinner before 7:00pm... or you'll be sorry Pros: nice decor more

Yummy for my Tummy, but very loud. 10/7/2002

great for friends (4-6) or simple dinner - not romantic. EXCELLENT food. EXCELLENT service. sangria was sweet. sticky sweet. so if that's what you like, go for it. small restaurant, very loud. easy parking (surprisingly, given that it was the mission). were seated promptly w/ our reservation. deserts were pretty basic. will definitely go back again. Pros: food, food, service Cons: noise, noise, noise more

Ruined Birthday 10/6/2002

Wish we could give a review of the food of Limon. However, we never got a chance to sit down! After making reservations and confirming for a 2nd time for a special birthday party, the restaurant did not have our reservations upon our arrival. It was apparently scribbled down on the back of the registration note-book. They made it sound like it was our fault and gave no effort to accomodate us even though it was due to their lack of attention to service and details. So, the recommendation of making reservations is apparently useless. The only thing they have done for us it to confirm that we will never return. more

peruvian perfection 8/23/2002

I have dinner out often, from $$$ to cheap eats, feasted at Limon last week and was more than favorably impressed. Small space, casual, excellent wait staff, best bouillabaisse and best empanadas I have ever had, wine list not complete yet but they're trying...liked this place so much I wanted to go back for more the next day. Gourmet with a friendly family feel - Excellent! Pros: food, wait staff, inexpensive Cons: parking not great, music a bit loud more

You've Got To Try This Place 8/20/2002

Although the internal aesthetics are a somewhat bland, everything else was above par. The food was more on the side of tradition Peruvian Faire. The service was also great, and our waiter was very attentive and made sure our wine glasses were always full. We made reservations for 7:30, and by 8:00 the restaurant was packed. Even the chef came out to clear tables! I'd definitely recommend Limon to anyone interested in venturing out to a new restaurant. Pros: Service, Food Cons: A Bit Sterile more

Right on 8/14/2002

This new Peruvian restaurant is excellent. It's owned and operated by a family from Peru, so authentic is the word. If you love Ceviche, you need to try theirs. The atmosphere is warm, but noisy. This is not a good place to bring kids unless it is early. The service was wonderful. We trusted the recommendations on both food & wine. Both were wonderful. Pros: Food, Decor, Recommendations Cons: Noise, Parking more
