Editorial review from Citysearch 9/15/2012

My husband and I love(d) Lily's. We went there for many special occasions (birthdays, anniversaries), and even took our staff there for Christmas one year. One Friday afternoon we decided to go for lunch. I double-checked the Web site for lunch hours (til 3:00) and we arrived around 2:30. We were greeted with the security gate pulled halfway down and the hostess telling us they were closed for lunch. I inquired about the dining hours given the fact we had driven almost an hour to get there. She went ""somewhere"" and came back with an adamant NO. Bye Bye Lily's ... and we were planning to take our staff back there for Christmas. more

Lily's On Main Greatly Overrated 1/6/2012

I am blown away that there are so many top reviews on Lily's On Main. I can't help but get the feeling that anyone who would review this 5 stars, knows anything about cooking or good food. Seriously, it is extremely overpriced! My husband and I, and another couple went there last year, expecting excellence....we were extremely dissappointed to say the least. First the good news.....Lily's has a great atmosphere...looks like a first class restaurant in New York City...and ambiance is wonderful. Food...not so good.....portions were terrible. I ordered a pasta dish...and honestly, when I put my fork in to eat......there was barely any pasta on my fork. More liquid than the pasta....unbelievable small portion....would say if there was a 1/4 cup of pasta in the whole dish....would be surprised. The price was appalling for the amount of food in my dish....we are talking ""Pasta Here""....so why so cheap on portions? All 4 of us were highly dissappointed. The only thing we felt was very good was the dessert we ordered, but still greatly overpriced. It is really a shame, because sincerely they could do so much better, as they have a great atmosphere as I mentioned before. We would never go there again, unless I hear that things have greatly improved. Don't waste your money. more

A unique dining experience! 10/10/2011

As innkeepers, we rely on Lily's as a place we can confidently refer our guests. In seven years, we have sent hundreds of guests and all have come away raving about both the food and the service! Whenever we get a chance to get out, Lily's is the place we want to go. This evening we went with six guests and everyone enjoyed everything they ate. The bread is homemade, fresh, healthy and tasty. The new fall menu has some very interesting additions. The venison osso bucco over polenta was hearty and delicious. This art deco restaurant outside of downtown Lancaster is perfect for we ""foodies"" who like to eat locally. Thanks everyone for a great dinner. more

Great for the Gluten Free crowd! 4/15/2011

The food is excellent, and not only that they are very conscious of people that have allergies. Steve the owner is very helpful to make recommendations and make sure the food is safe. I have a gluten allergy and I hate going out to eat, because it is always the same mundane food choices. Not at Lily's! There is always something new and exciting. And I will never forget when it was my birthday and they made me my own Gluten Free creme brulee with fresh berries. It was delicious and because of the hospitality we just keep going back. Try Lily's... you won't be sorry! more

Amazing experience 3/4/2009

Loved the whole experience. From the friendly staff and great service to the amazing food presentation to the jaw dropping taste of our apeteizers, the fresh salad, the Howards Bread, and of course the main course was to die for. No more for dessert.......... So we went back 2 weeks later and made sure to do it all over again plus have the biggest piece of chocholate cake i have ever seen for dessert. Our new favorite place for a romantic dinner. We travel to Philly a lot and to Maniunk for great meals but looks like we can save an hour and some drive and just head 25 min down the road to LILYS ON MAIN...... Pros: Ambience, service, presentation, owner willing to talk to his customers Cons: the butter wasnt warm, it was a little bit frozen. more

Great food and brilliant decor but.... 8/15/2008

Doesn't deserve 4 stars, but is better than average. Very expensive - $32 for lunch entre and dessert WITHOUT a drink per person! Decor is fabulous art-deco, food better than average, quality of service is very good/excellent, but way too slow. Two hours plus for lunchtime. I just can't say it is a good value. What really blew it for me - I ordered a $7.50 dessert, wanted only a few bites and take the rest home. Well they chopped off more than half of it so they could smash it into a small hamburger foam box. That is just wrong IMHO. Pros: Brilliant decor, interesting better than average food, good quality of service when you got any Cons: Overpriced, very slow service more

A must if you are in Lancaster County 7/16/2008

My husband and I were in Ephrata on our way home from Nova Scotia. At our motel someone recommended Lily's. We were completely surprised at the quality of this restaurant. You would have thought you were in NYC except for the prices. The Art Deco decor is fantastic and the food excellent. I had the calves liver dish for dinner and it was to die for. We liked this restaurant so much that we are planning on detouring through Ephrata on our vacation in August just to have lunch at Lily's. Don't miss this restaurant if you are anywhere near Ephrata or do as we are doing---go out of your way just to have a meal there. Pros: Decor and excellent food and service. more

Unusually phenomenal 3/29/2004

I live in Philadelphia and have been to a lot of great restaurants here. My parents live in Lancaster, and whenever I go to visit we have dinner at Lilly's. It is a wonderful restaurant that Lancaster county should cherish forever. It's a truly upscale restaurant that would get raves in Philly, even NYC. Okay, once I had the pecan pie and it wasn't great. Pros: Everything more

Four Star American Fare 8/8/2002

Wonderfully designed interior decor, and when you come to this restaurant the presentation is absolutely beautiful! The mangement has definitely put a lot of thought into their menu, and the food is excellent, from the wine selection down to the desserts! Truly amazing! Stop in any evening, and enjoy the excellent view of Ephrata from within the Brossman Business complex where Lily's is located at; on the second floor. I recommend it , and if you are willing to spenda little extra, it will be worth every penny! Pros: Free Parking @ Garage, Excellent Soups/Salad, Delicious Desserts more
