Editorial review from Citysearch 1/29/2013

My dog had a lip ulcer which was improperly treated at one veterinary practice. I sought a second opinion with Dr. Read, who not only gave an on-target diagnosis but did not charge for brief follow-on visits concerning the same issue. When I thanked him for that he said that it was the right and fair thing to do, which of course, is true, but how many vets or medical practices actually run their businesses that way? Exactly!!! So I have transferred my pets' records to this veterinary clinic and will continue to use them! Smart, compassionate AND fair. What's not to love? more

Compassionate Vets 1/11/2012

My wife and I have been going to Lexington Vet Associates for the past 15 years. Each doctor and all the staff (Steve, Sarah, Wendy etc.) have been so very helpful and so very compassionate when dealing with us and our beloved furry-family members. In particular, we see Dr. Read. He has been extremely kind to our pets over the years, and very gentle with them and us when we've had to make the difficult decisions to let them go. Recently, we had to have our beloved family dog, Abbie, put to sleep due to various old-age related issues. It was a trying decision but Dr. Read's compassionate nature helped us through the process. Our other pets (dogs and cats) have been and are patients of Dr. Read's, and he always does a thorough job examining them, takes his time answering our questions, and in general, possesses the kind of demeanor you want in a vet. Also, our adult children bring their pets to Lexington Vet Associates because of the experiences they had when bringing the family pets there as youngsters. In our opinion, you can't possibly find a more knowledgeable or more compassionate group of people. You won't go wrong with bringing your furry-family members to this wonderful vet! more

Awesome VET! Would highly recommend 8/29/2011

Dr. Read was able to figure out what was going on with my Havanese. He had been having a hard time with walking and was alternating limping on his front paws. My previous vet really had no answers. Then we switched to Dr. Read's group and after doing some testing, suggested we think outside of the box as it were about our pooch's behavior since Dr. Read noticed our dog pronates a bit on his front paws. We discovered that our dog was injuring himself by squishing under these roll out baby gates that we use for our baby and once we stopped using the gates within a short amount of time, our dog got better. That was a year ago and he's perfectly fine now. I don't think we would of figured it out if Dr. Read did not have us think unconventionally. Great Vet! We would highly recommend visiting them for their great service! more

The Best Veterinarian 11/15/2010

I have been taking my many dogs to Dr. Read for more than two decades, and have been extremely pleased with the care they have received. Dr. Read has extensive experience and medical knowledge and stays current with latest procedures and technology. He is compassionate, kind, an excellent diagnostician and many times has offered options in an attempt to conserve my funds. Over the years, he has cured many illnesses and has successfully performed multiple surgeries on my various dogs for fatty tumors, kidney stones, cysts, spaying, neutering, dental, etc. He also has treated a couple of chronic illnesses. I consider myself very fortunate to have my dogs in Dr. Read's care. As with my own medical care, I want the very best for my dogs as well, and Dr. Read provides that. more

I wouldnt come back to this vet 9/29/2010

My cat had been suffering and unfortunately had to be put to sleep today. I brought him in to Dr. Read for the Euthanasia because of all the positive reviews I read on here. I was very sad (obviously) and asked a couple of questions about my cats condition. Dr. Read was very cold and got annoyed at my questions! He RUSHED me through the process of saying goodbye to my kitty that I've had for 13 years, and got super annoyed when I asked if I can at least have a couple minutes with my vat between the anesthesia and the injection to put him down. I've honestly never ever come across a vet with such a lack of compassion, and an attitude like he had. I was shocked to be honest that a vet can be so disrespectful at such a sensitive time when I'm standing there in tears. more

Dr. Read is excellent! 4/17/2009

I have been taking my Miniature Schnauzers to Dr. Read for almost 20 years and have always received exemplary service from Dr. Read as well as the rest of the staff. The facility is clean and the staff congenial and always willing to help. Dr. Read has a genuine caring nature for pets, and understands their importance in family dynamics. He is compassionate, very knowledgeable, listens for details of symptoms, determines an accurate diagnosis, explains all treatments thoroughly and allows plenty of time during office visits for my million questions. My dogs on occasion have also been seen by Dr. Smith and she, too, has always provided excellent care. The attitude, dedication and commitment of the entire staff keeps me coming back and keeps my dogs happy and healthy! Pros: Great veterinarian! Cons: Office not closer to my home more

Fantastic Vets - Great Office Staff! 7/29/2008

We have been taking our 9,000 various animals to Lexington Vet. Associates since Dr.'s Read and Smith bought the practice (and before, to tell the truth). Our dogs love them and they really care about our dogs. Dr. Read has performed something like 6-8 surgeries on our dogs over the years and they have all come through with flying colors. He does great work. Dr. Smith has done puppy shots with one dog and been there with us when we had to put another to sleep. They are practically family. We wouldn't go anywhere else. As a bonus, the office staff and techs are as good as the vets. Pros: Great technical ability and great human beings. Cons: My dog hates to go to the vet........no matter how nice the vet is to her. more

Excellent Veterinarian, Great Clinic! 1/23/2008

Dr Read is an excellent veterinarian. We found him after visiting several vets and were anxious to find one that was good. It was obvious from the moment we met him that he knew what he was doing and what's more our kitties love him too. Before he examines them, he puts them on his lap first and pets them. He's also very knowledgeable in his field. One of the things important for us is that he explains what's being done and why and doesn't mind the 1001 questions we ask every time from vaccinations to diet to any other medical issue. Thanks to him and everyone else at the clinic, our cats are happy and healthy and we are doing everything they recommend to keep them that way. His clinic is run very professionally and is equipped with the latest medical technology. This clinic was recommended to us by an humane animal shelter. We feel thankful that they are there to take care of our little family members when needed. Pros: Location, parking, knowleadgeable, experienced and caring vet and staff more

Terrific veterinarian 12/17/2007

Dr. Stan Read(e) is an outstanding vet--he gives excellent care. He has been knowledgeable, practical, careful, and capable for all issues I have had with my pets He has also known when to refer out to a specialist. He is very friendly and and approachable and takes his time with clients. He genuinely seems to enjoy the animals and his practice. His staff is responsive and helpful and the office location is quite convenient too. I truly have faith in this practice. Pros: Wonderful care, helpful staff, convenient location Cons: Parking situation is adequate but there could be more spaces. more

They really care about your pet 9/20/2007

I was new to the area when my dog became very ill. My neighbor recommended Lex. Vets and I am so glad she did. Dr. Cox was genuinely concerned about my dog. He did a very careful and thorough exam and spent a lot of time asking me questions and then explaining treatment options. He called me at home several times to check on my dog's progress. I'm very happy to have found Dr. Cox. I recommend him and Lex Vets. highly. Pros: they really do care about your pet more
