No breakfast freezing rooms 2/16/2010

dinner was good. staff in restaurant friendly. now, we spent the night afterwards. stayed in Louis and Frederick suites with friends. Freezing cold, couldnt go to sleep if you wanted to. their idea of a breakfast is cranapple juice (2) 2 granola bars, a bag of mini muffins and a biscotti. a mr coffee and some instant stale coffee rounded out their idea of a buffet! i could have over looked that if the staff wasnt so rude when we checked in and if the rooms werent so freezing cold. it was 15 degrees warmer in the hallways. Pros: good dinner Cons: freezing rooms crappy ""breakfast"" more

Great Place to Stay - Great Place to Eat 11/6/2009

I have eaten at the Mansion many, many times, and I am currently ""sleeping my way"" through the Mansion. I have hit 3 rooms, with 3 to go. It is pricey, but it is a great place nonetheless. If you come here looking to watch TV, then maybe you want the Holiday Inn instead. The charm and draw of this place is how open everyone is to let you explore it, if you are staying. If you go to ""free"" programs enough, you learn quickly that it is always best to call ahead and see if there is an unannounced reservation required. I can personally attest that the staff in all my trips there are polite, courteous and attentive. Great place to visit, whether or not you stay. You're visiting history and a great ambience. 16,000 thumbs up for the old gal! Pros: Best food anywhere, rooms are great to stay in Cons: Not good for wheelchair accessibility more

lemp mansion sucks 10/30/2009

Lemp Mansion Sucks. The only think it has going for it is architectural. If you are interested in its haunted history you can go walk through the museum for free but don't spend any money at this place. The staff is rude and condescending. They clearly do not care to have children there. more

We will never eat here again 5/10/2009

Took Mom for Mother's day, and needless to say this was a wrong choice. I had made a reservation, and confirmed it by phone. When we arrived, they said the wait would be a half hour unless we sat in the basement, so we took basement seating. The whole place seemed dirty, and the food was cold, and sub-standard. Worst part was, they added a automatic 20% gratuity because which when we asked they said ""Oh we always add it to parties of 5 or more"". Well I have heard of adding on 15% or even 17% to large parties, but to parties of 5? 20% for a set menu family style dinner where we served ourselves!!! So we were stuck paying a $23.00 tip for rude service! This was very annoying, especially when the service was terrible, and they had already jacked up the price on Mother's day to $23.00 per person! Our bill was over $150 for 4 adults and 1 child. Obviously they don't want us to come back anymore, and we certainly will not, and we urge all readers of this not to go there either. Cons: Food was sub-standard, management was rude more

NO CABLE TELEVISION! AHHHHH! 2/17/2009

My wife and I stayed at the Lemp Mansion for my 29th birthday. We had planned a romantic getaway. We booked the Lavender Suite which is the nicest and biggest room in the mansion. When we got to the room the first thing I did was turn on the television. I was SHOCKED to see that they didn't have cable. I don't know if it's me or not, but I expect cable television in a room that I'm being charged $205 a night. I just have to watch Sportscenter before going to bed. We reported the issue to management, but we were brushed off. I think maybe twenty or thirty years ago cable in a room was considered a luxury, but in the 21st century it's not. I was stuck with 7 local channels which all had a lot of static. The room was very clean and came with a little basket of snacks and two small containers of wine. The complimentary breakfast in the morning was nice too! Some advice: The Lavender suite overlooks interstate 55 so there was some highway noise. If noise would be an issue to you I would recommend the Charles Lemp Room which is on the other side of the house and overlooks the garden. The Charles Lemp room doesn't have it's own bathroom though... Pros: Room was clean and nicely decorated. Cons: NO CABLE and some Highway noise. more

Very entertaining dining experience complete with good food. 11/10/2008

I went to a public dinner theatre with a few friends celebrating a birthday. Upon arrival you are given a name tag and your characters role/secrets. You are invited to interact with other guest there to get more information about the story. The first course was Beer Cheese Soup, I thought it was good although it could have been a little hotter. The actors were very funny and did a lot of audience interaction... so you may want to keep that in mind if you are shy. Second course was May(ceasar) Salad. Entree was Fried chicken breast with gravy with Steak and rice, It was a lot and I probably shouldnt have ate it all but it was very good. There was also Cheesecake for dessert. For the price the food and entertainment was worth the value and I plan to go back. I just hope they change up the menu regularly. Pros: Great value, good food, very entertaining Cons: Bathroom had bad odor, no choice in entrees, and servers rushes each course. more

A Haunting Experience 10/18/2003

My husband and I visited on vacation in July 2003. We wanted a hauntingly romantic place to stay and found it. A beautiful Victorian home once owned by a beer baron and family. Though struck by tragedy this family is still in good spirits. We heard strange noises and saw things that were not there. Or were they. We took photos around the house and when they came back there was the shadow of a woman in the tub-from our suite, an odd misty shape in the gazebo, and a face in a hall light. Voices screaming, doors being kicked, things being knocked over. It made my husband a believer. We told everyone about our experience and showed the photos. We enjoyed it so much we are going back Nov 2003. And we are taking 7 friends with us. We hope they enjoy it as much as we did. Pros: lots of privacy, beautiful home, wonderful people Cons: no air upstairs more
