They could be bad for your health 10/14/2007

Today, I find a piece of metal in my food. It was about 1/4 to 1/2 inch long. It was explained to me that it came from a protective metal glove that the cooks use when they cook or slice bread. I could have ingested this piece of metal. I'm not too sure that there weren't any others that I missed and did ingest. I'm a bit worried about my health and I am extremely disappointed in Left Bank. Things happen, but you don't expect to find a piece of metal that migh end your life when you go out to eat. Cons: Foreign objects (i.e. Metal) in your food more

Nonexistent Service and Disappointing Food 4/18/2007

I honestly tried to like the Left Bank. I went back over four times (shame on me), each time the service was awful, and the food wasn?t special. My father owned restaurants in San Francisco so I understand that this is a tough business but I have run out of excuses for the Left Bank. The location and outside seating are the only positive things I can say about the restaurant. The staff does move quickly but I am not sure where they are going?certainly not to pick up beverages or the food. Are they polite?...at times but I have also been very shocked by the rudeness.\r \r On one occasion, it took 45 minutes to get one bottle of wine delivered to the table and then it wasn?t open for another 10 minutes. The only time our waiter showed any interest, charm or professionalism was when he handed us the check and invited us back. No thank you! \r \r You are paying for the location so don?t expect to have a positive food or service experience. There are so many other places to eat at Santana Row that do understand good food and service?I have vowed to never to go back. Pros: People watching Cons: Service and Food more

Bad service, food not great. 4/3/2007

Been there a couple of times; won't be going back. Pretentiously overpricing your food does not, repeat, does not, make it taste better.\r \r Service isn't great. \r Staff aren't great.\r Food isn't great. \r \r Summary: Totally overpriced for sub-par food and poor service. They're attempting to be a classy, upmarket French restaurant on Santana Row but they need to focus on their food & service rather than marketing strategy. Pros: None. Cons: Lots. more

Food not very good 8/24/2006

Service was adequate, food was pretty poor and small portions for the price. If you like chain restraunts then you may like it. It is the Chilis for the big spender. Cons: Parking, Food, French Fries more

Best hamburger , fondu, fries, and salads 8/11/2006

We enjoyed sitting outside and people watching while being well taken care of by the wait staff.\r My hamburger (I usually don't eat burgers, just had a craving) was done perfectly rare and the meat was very tasty. My aunts salad was pleasing to the eye and very fresh tasting. Not to much dressing.\r Our drinks were refilled in a timely fashion.\r I have gone back several times and, yes, the fondu is great. Pros: Ample seating outside more

Below average food and service 8/8/2006

While the ambiance was nice, the service and food quality was disappointing. I have had better food and service for much less. I wouldn't go back there again. Pros: Ambience Cons: Food and service more

Wonderful Service 7/15/2006

Ask for Michael. He has a confidant upbeat and sincere personally. The hostess and several other Left Bank employees made sure our luncheon was delightful. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who would enjoy a great dining atmosphere with family or friends. Pros: Service more

sophisticated without being snooty 3/31/2006

I have only been here once and dined alone, but it would be great to go back with some girl friends. I was having a crummy day and decided to have a decent lunch for a change. I walked in and my spirits were lifted. The service was attentive, the food was wonderful (I had the soup du jour & quiche), and the ambience was very pleasant. I highly recommend Left Bank! Pros: Location, Menu, Service more

Poor Service, Ok food 3/11/2006

When we arrived for our 8:15 reservation, we were rudely informed that because we were late, our table was given away. My cell phone (automatically set) showed 8:17, but the stewardess proceeded to argue with me about the time. After we were seated, I tried to order a glass of Cabernet, but they were out. No luck with Merlot or Pinot Noir either. The waitress, who was very polite, said they were in the process of changing their entire wine list, so had to sell out what was left. The food was nothing great either. On the positive side, while it's not cheap, it's by no means as expensive as you'd think a French restaurant in Santana Row might be. I think the place mostly capitalizes on location. But if you're in search of a moderately priced eat in Santana Row and don't mind poor service, this may be it. Cons: Service, Food more

Unique Food 11/18/2004

More like good, peasant French food than the over-refined fancy-schmancy stuff most everywhere else. Other reviewers have raved about the Fondue, the appeal is that isn't trying to be super smooth (and thus bland, like most fondue): is it tart and goaty and thus delightful. The oxtail is not for the timid of stomach, being mostly fat; but where else could you get such a dish? The green beans, the soup, tarte lyonaise, and even the hamburger (with blue cheese and bacon) are delicious. The service is dodgy: mostly exceptional, sometimes horrid. Left Bank is one of the treasures of Santana Row. Pros: Santana Row, Decor more

Fondue!!!!!!!!!!! 8/25/2004

Yes, Left Bank is known for their french fries, but the real reason to fall in love with them is for their fondue!!!!!!! It is amazing!!!!!!!!! I go out of my way to go there atleast once a week to have it for the last year and a half, and will never tire of it!!!!! You must go and try it right now! You won't be sorry! Pros: Fondue, Wine list, ambiance more
