Awesome Restaurant with a Too French Name 1/17/2009

I had never heard of Le Pain Quotidien until last week, when I tried it for the first time. The Grilled Chicken & Smoked Mozzarella with Arugula and Basil Pesto Tartine (open faced sandwich) was so tasty, I had to go back today and have it again. The presentation and preparation was absolutely perfect both times I've had it. Every ingredient tasted very fresh and I felt like I was eating a delicious and healthy meal. I appreciated the large carafe of iced green tea delivered to my table, so I could refill my glass without having to expect the server to keep an eye on my glass for me. That's a brilliant idea that I wish more restaurants would copy. Soft orchestral music plays over the restaurant's sound system and filtered sunlight brightens the earthtone and wood interior. If you are trying to choose a lunch location between Le Pain Quotidien and Il Tramezzino (both on the same block), DEFINITELY choose Le Pain Quotidien! They may be in the same city block, but they are on opposite ends of my ""star"" scale. Pros: Delicious, fresh food and relaxing atmosphere. Cons: May be hard to find convenient street parking on a busy day. more

Good food 9/30/2008

I can almost die for the Vegetarienne salad or the bread and cheese. Either are surprisingly filling, and very flavorful for a quick lunch. Prices are a bit high for such light eating, but specialty cheeses are always a bit costly, so this is understandable.\r A very vegan and vegetarian friendly restaurant/bakery, it's easy to feel nostalgic for our almost any rustic European cafe spot. Service is fine when I'm there, but it is almost always packed, so I suggest coming in before or after lunch hour.\r I recommend it for people with a little time, patience, and in the mood for something that breaks away from American dining. more

Like being in Belgium again 3/5/2008

If you are craving a hardy American meal, try this place another day. Le Pain Quotidien serves European inspired dishes with fresh vegetables and organic bread. In addition to their regular menu, they have a list of daily specials and soup of the day (which is always vegan). I love the Salad Vegeterienne so much that I almost never order anything else. It has everything I need from fresh lettuce and tomatoes to a selection of cheeses. It is served with a couple of pieces of bread which I save until the end to eat with the trio of spreads as a dessert. When I could use a slightly smaller meal, I order the ricotta, fig, and honey tartine. The chicken chutney tartine gets rave reviews as well. They even have Liege waffles made from dough with course sugar mixed in (instead of the traditional batter we are used to) served with fresh fruit. Everything my friends and I have ordered has been good, and sometimes you even get a celebrity siting for free with your meal. Pros: fresh ingredients, Liege waffles, vegan soup, dog friendly Cons: service can be slow, restaurant gets pretty loud more

Excellent Tartines, but Slooooooooow Lunch Service 9/8/2006

I love Le Pain - everything I have had there is delicious. But they need some more staff at this location during the weekday lunch rush - it is incredibly slow. The servers are always nice, but it takes an act of Congress to get your check. more

Organic foods and Mint Lemonade to die for. 8/5/2006

I can't get enough of thier Mint Lemonade, I guess I'm lucky to live so close by. They have great breakfast everything is organic, and the fresh bread is amazing. I always order the Soft-Boiled Eggs that comes with a great selection of thier organic breads and for Lunch I love thier Cobb Salad or Chicken Curry Tartine. I wish they where open for dinner, to bad they close at 7. Pros: Organic, Fresh and The Mint Lemonade Cons: close so early more

freshest bread and sandwiches 3/23/2006

a very cute spot for a nice, fresh and wholesome lunch. the sandwiches are served open faced in triangle shapes on what looks like a painter's palette (the chicken curry is great). vegetables are delicious and fresh, as though they were just plucked from a nearby garden. the fresh mint lemonade is delicious as are all of their desserts. coffee's good too. it can get a little crowded around lunchtime, so be prepared for a wait. this isn't fast food. Pros: fresh bread, delicious sandwiches, fresh lemonade Cons: service can be slow, can be a wait more
