Editorial review from Citysearch 4/27/2013

Landings Animal Hospital is an adequate facility providing satisfactory care to all of its' patients. Dr. Taylor is a nice guy who appears genuinely concerned about the well being of his four legged patients. However, it appears he has a hands off attitude on the day to day running of his office. He and his staff don't seem to appreciate the loyalty of long time clients or the relationship the human beings have developed with the people who care for their pets. Dr.Taylor spends alot of time talking about his own experiences with caring for his own animals or giving examples of advice he has given to other clients. He needs to remember it is not about him. There should be an exchange of information so the client can make the best possible decision regarding the care of his or her pet. It should be a collaboration. No assumptions or presumptions just facts and information. Clients who are educated and included-not lectured to-would certainly make his job easier. more

Dr. Taylor was always good with our 5/23/2012

Dr. Taylor was always good with our animals (2 dogs & 1 cat) but there seems to be a revolving door with the other vets that work there. The last time I had my dogs into the clinic last year I was told my one of the other vets (a woman who wasn't there for very long) that if I kept my dogs on hearworm pills all year long that I wouldn't have to test them every year. I proceeded to do this but when it came time to get their prescription refilled, I was told by a receptionist or vet tech (whoever answered the phone) that they would not renew the prescription (which I was trying to fill through 1800 Pet Meds) unless we brought them in for a test. I explained the advice from the vet who worked at their clinic and that I have kept them on medication all year. They said that she didn't work there anymore and they don't know why she would have told me such a thing. I asked my husband to call back to make an appointment to take them in but he got a different receptionist/vet tech who said - ""You don't need to test them if they were on the meds all year, just come in and we will sell you the meds."" At this point it was becoming clear to me that they were only requiring the test if we didn't buy the meds from them as a source of income since they would charge for the visit and the test. Because I was getting conflicting stories from the women who were answering the phone I asked if they would have Dr. Taylor call me back so I could get a straight answer from him directly. They said they would leave the message. Two days later after not hearing from him I called again. They told me ""He will be too busy to call you back"". I am not sure if that message was coming from Dr, Tyalor himself or if the women who answer the phone took it upon themselves to be that rude, but I promptly took my business elsewhere. I would never recommend this clinic after the run around I received. The Avon Lake Animal Hospital on Moore Rd. is significantly better and they have after hours call for emergencies. The vet there took the time to discuss the heartworm treatment options with me and their advice wasn't dependent on whether or not I bought the meds from them. more

Dr. Rowles would be proud 5/21/2010

When I was about 9 years old, my sister Mary and I walked in the snow all the way from our house on Glenview Drive to Dr. Rowles office, The hospital was then on the corner of 83 and Walker Rd. where the fountain is currently located. My hamster Spot was sick and Dr. Rowles not only helped him but didn't charge us anything.\r \r Years later in my mid 30's my Dachshund Kanz started walking funny. I was told to bring Kanz directly into the office. Kanz had jumped off a table and pinched a nerve in his back. Without immediate surgery he would become paralyzed. \r \r Kanz had the back surgery, stayed overnight a few days and was then prescribed antibiotics and pain medicine. When we received the bill it was only for a little more then $500. I asked Dr. Rowels why the bill was so small. He said he'd performed the surgery only once before, and that was on his own dog, and that we didn't even ask him how much the surgery was going to cost. \r \r When Dr. Rowles left I was devistated, but I've come to admire the new staff just as much. They've always been there for my family. I know that I'm getting the best service possible every time.\r \r I recommend them 110%!!!\r \r \r Pros: Excellent Service for Many Many Years Cons: Need multi animals discounts more

Landings Great Place to take our dog 4/18/2010

I am writing this review as was surprised that someone would write a negative review of Landings. I have never written a review on anything until now.\r \r We have taken our dogs to Landings Aminal Hospital for over 20 years, first with Dr. Rowles and now with Dr. Taylor. They have both been exceptional Vets. Chris Taylor is great with our dog as well as with us the owners of the dog. He has always been very upfront with us concerning the health issues and treatment of same. The building and its surroundings have always been clean, well manicured lawn, etc. Dr. Rowles and his staff have been personalable as well as knowledgeable rather speaking on the phone or in person. Would highly reccommend this. Pros: Professionalism, well trained, compassion, cleanliness, Cons: somewhat pricey more

Not so good 4/24/2009

First of all, I am never one to bash anyone without letting them defend themselves. But In this case I will continue...\r The front desk is highly uneducated. They seem to just follow orders. When a question is brought to them, they don't quite know how to answer it. I spent hundreds of dollars over 4 months trying to help my puppy get better, and the overall response was sort of ""oh well, lets keep shuffling paperwork"". When I did get to meet with Dr. Taylor (who by the way is a great guy, but insisted on defending his credentials to me) the answers I got were never quite the right ones. The meds my dog was given were HIGHLY overpriced and only mildy effective. I also feel that I should not have to inform the vet of what meds my baby girl needed. Its their responsibility to keep records.\r \r I have since moved to a better vet whos entire staff seems to actually care about my dog's health and it shows. My wallet and my puppy have thanked me. Keep searching if you have the option. Pros: Clean facility Cons: Staff more

The Landings Provides Quality Caring Service 8/21/2008

I have three cats and have taken them to the ""BIG"" Animal Hospital on Miller Rd. that was mentioned previously by the upset customer. I was very disatisfied with their diagnosis (or lack thereof) of a very unusual disease/condition that one of my cats developed. They pulled teeth unnecessarily (to the tune of $700.00) and failed to diagnose the primary problem with my cat. After receiving RAVE recommendations about The Landins Animal Hospital, I took all of my cats there. Dr. Laura was fabulous! She made the diagosis of my sick cat, and treated him appropriately. He has not had a problem since. She has also seen my other two cats for well-care and I have been very happy with their services. \r Perhaps this upset individual was looking more at the overall appearance of the facility rather than the care received. The Landings is an older building, but is kept meticulously clean. The BIG Hospital is newer, and very trendy, but no cleaner. \r I give The Landings 5 stars plus!! \r Pros: Very knowledgeable Vets Cons: No emergency care more

Nice People 5/12/2008

The people who work at the Landings are always friendly and seem to genuinely care about your pets. When my cat passed away they sent a very nice card. He passed away at another clinic. My dogs like to go there, and that means a lot to us. As a side note, it is always clean inside and out! Pros: Sensible solutions to problems Cons: Limited surgery times and not always able to handle emergencies more

Wonderful Facility 3/4/2008

I am originally from this area and as a child used to take my cat and dog to Dr. Rowles. Having lived in Cincinnati and Cleveland I have been to other vets for my animals in those areas and still have never received the kind attention that I receive at the Landings Animal Hospital. I am now back in the area and have taken my pets to the Landings hospital again and still the treatment of my animal was excellent, I don't know if kbplus5 even went to the same vet that they are rating. I remember when the facility wasa third the size and still in a smaller facility the service was excellent. Dr. Rowles has always been a kind and gentle man to both my pets and my family when our dog and cat was sick. 5 stars, best vet I've been to. more

Response to false statements 2/29/2008

It is very disappointing as a veterinarian and business owner to see yourself slandered on the internet. Unfortunately due to client-patient confidentiality I can only refute the claims of KBplus5 in general terms. My clinic has NEVER been full of animal waste or dirty inside. These statements are patently false. My hospital has been inspected and accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association which holds us to the highest standards. We have been accredited for over 25 years and had our last inspection in October of 2007. We not only have the capability to radiograph pets, but would always recommend this for a pet in advanced pregnancy. Unfortunately some clients refuse our recommendations. The American Animal Hospital Association also inspects our radiology department as well as our ability to take and evaluate films. We are COMPLETELY competent to treat all pets, and offer a full range of diagnostics, medicine, surgery, radiology, and hospitalization. I would invite anyone at any time to come and visit my hopital for a tour to see how clean and well kept it is. Dr. Kris Taylor more

Worst Vet we've ever been to. DON'T GO HERE! 2/21/2008

I've had wonderful pets for almost 50 years and never had an aweful experience with a vet. Some have been sad, but this was inexcusable. We have a Golden Retriever that we thought was due to have puppies any day, and took her to be seen to be sure there was no problem and maybe get a puppy count. The doctor (?) there could not even tell us for sure if the dog was pregnant. Very vague, didn't seem too sure of what he was doing, and only recited statistics from a textbook. He didn't wash his hands before or after touching our dog, didn't think to listen to her belly till we asked, and then just said he heard 'puppy sounds' and had NO x-ray or ultrasound equipment in the whole facility. The whole experience was unbelievable. We specifically asked for an ultrasound, x-ray or sonogram when we called for the appointment. They got us in quickly, but we were not pleased at the dirty conditions of the office or exam rooms. The amount of animal waste outside on the lawn area should have been an indicator, but we were just concerned for our animal's well-being. We carried her in! \r Honestly, the Dr. was just mind-boggling was glad my husband and I both went, because we just would have had a hard time believing this if we hadn't seen it ourselves. The guy seemed really uneducated, and we left shaking our heads. I got a 'survey' call later and let them know again, as we had when we were leaving, that we were extremely disturbed with the visit. We did inform them that we would be disputing the charge on our credit card and they didn't seem surprised at all. Nor did they argue the point when we mentioned the 'lack of diagnosis' and 'clue-less' manner of the Dr. We ended up taking our dog to the BIG animal hospital on Miller Rd. and found that she was not even pregnant. It was a false pregnancy and the PROFESSIONALS there were fabulous. I would definitely keep driving even if this place is closer to your home. Jaw-dropping-ly incompetent. Cons: Thumbs way, way down. more
