very good indian food 2/26/2011

I went here yesterday. Food is really good.. service is also great.. make sure you go for buffet here, its only $9.95 and there are lot of varieties. I am vegetarian but my friend has got some non veg options and he was very happy with it. little problem with parking as they have very few spots but I could get it after 5 min wait. I will highly recommend this one more

Authentic Indian Cuisine, Delightful Service 3/22/2010

Went with my mom last week on a Wednesday afternoon. After chatting with the owner for a while, we learned a lot about this establishment and I liked it even more. I'm excited that they are right around the corner from me! This place is very inconspicuously located. The best thing about Lal Mirch is their food. It is the real deal and they take pride in what they serve here. It is a family business, with pride of ownership. Go for the lunch buffet, or dinner and be sure to have the tandoori chicken. The staff is pleasant and will know you after your first visit. Ask questions and talk to them about their menu, they are very informative and delight in sharing their culture through their delicious food. The place can be packed at the height of the lunch or dinner hour, but it is well worth it and the tables turnover quickly so you won't have much of a wait. Pros: pleasant atmosphere, staff, lunch buffet, clean more

Fresh & Tasty Tradition 4/17/2009

Went here for a small casual family gathering of four. First time. Was not diappointed.. Interior was welcoming, tasteful and cozy. Service was very pleasant and helpful. Classic vindaloos, kormas, and tikka masalas were not as heavy and fresher tasting than many other indian places which tend to over-cook sauces. Spice intensity is to your preference. Fried rIce was perfect. Chicken was very tender, though just a few more actual pieces would have been welcome. Although weekday room was full by 7:45pm, it was pleasant and not noisy. Reservation recommended for dinner after 7:00pm. Pros: Cozy neighborhood classic Cons: Tiny parking area more

Horrible hygiene !!!!!! Beware ! 3/19/2009

I went to this place for the first time with a friend. I know what a good indian food tastes like and what is difference between real indian food and a fake one. Food is all good and tastes good but i was shocked to see a ""hair"" in my daal or lenticles that i ordered...the worst part was when i told the server about it...he started looking around and didn't even appologized fro it nor did the manager. Neither did they serve us anything to replace that nor did they compensated it on the bill. I was charged for the lenticles i ordered and no regrets or appologizes from the management. I wouldn't recommend anyone to go here. Pros: taste Cons: unhygienic food and rude staff and management more

Best Indian Food Ever 6/10/2008

After my first visit I was hooked. At present I go at least twice a week. The staff is curtious and the establishment is clean. The only downside is the parking, but you can easily park across the street for a quarter. I highly recomend the Chicken Tikka Masala, although I have not had a bad dish. As a word of caution the ""hot"" (spicy) dishes are extremely spicy. Pros: Authentic Food, & Clean Cons: Parking more

Wow!!! Mushroom with a twist!!! 5/12/2008

We were at this restaurant last week for our book club dinner. I had the mushroom appetizer, wow! I never tasted anything like that before, full of flavor and had a nice sweet n spicy taste to it. The soup was also very flavorful. For main dish we had the chicken birani and Shrimp coco curry a notch above the rest. Love it!! We will be there again. more

Give him the pickle! 5/3/2008

When this restaurant first opened, my friend and I decided to give it a try and order delivery. The food was very good so we became a regular delivery patron, ordering about 5 times per week Then we decided to go and sit down to experience what type of hospitable service they have and it only took them a minute to recognize us since we were probably their number one delivery patrons. Sitting down in the restaurant was a total disappointment. The place was empty! I know they are pretty new in the neighborhood but you would think that any business would want to make friends and go that extra step to retain you. Well, that was not the case here. When we got there we were greeted with a side of bread that looked like thin waffles. My friend and I liked them so we ordered some more. When the bill came we notice they charged us almost 3 dollars for that extra side of waffles. We were not even told of the extra charged and when we told the server about it all he said was ?sorry, you order more you pay extra?. That is fine but at leas tel us know! I am a restaurant manager and I know how important it is to go that extra step for future regulars. In business, it is called ?Give him that extra pickle?. We will not go back. I know we can find other Indian restaurants who can give us that ?Extra pickle? in return for repeat patronage. Pros: Good food Cons: bad service more

Good food, service, & ambience 4/22/2008

My husband and i went 40 minutes before they closed. We called and they gave us good directions! We were pleasantly surprised when we went inside linen tables at this price with a smile in person and over the phone WHAAT? I ordered Chicken Tikka my husband Chicken Curry mild this was the best indian food. Fresh and tasty not over salty which is good. This will be one of our getaways for years to come. Pros: Great deal & friendly service Cons: parking more

Yummy! 4/19/2008

Consistantly wonderful food and great atmosphere. My boyfriend and I have made this a regular spot. Very fresh and a freindly staff. I've always avoided Indian becuase I don't like spicy food but this place will make it mild if you ask but it is still full of flavor. Hands down, best Indian food I""ve every had!! more

The BEST Indian Food in Los Angeles 1/30/2008

The dull brick exterior fooled us until we entered the restaurant. The inside was very warm with nice ambiance. For starter we had onion things, was crispy and had nice taste to it. For main dish I had Beef Karma, my new favorite dish. Creamy dish with flovor that makes your tastebuds do backflip. My friend is a vegeterian and an Indian Food Fanatic order saag panir, spinach dish with homemade cheese. According to her this was the best saag panir she had in Los Angeles. She is from England and it reminded her of the indian food in England. We also had garlic nan and orange sherbet for desert, everything was very pleasant the service was also very friendly. Pros: Nice Inside, Great Food, Pretty cool service more

Not the very best - average food 11/16/2007

I wanted to try this new Indian place, this is only few blocks away from another Indian restaurant in Studio City. Parking is not very easy but we were able to find parking inside Lal Mirch's small parking area. Ambience is good, place is clean, service is good. Well, we were there for the food! They gave pappad which tasted like pappad made out of reused oil, or it might be old. We ordered sample platters in the appetizer it comes with meat samosa, vegetable samosa, onion bakora and one more cutlet kind, we substituted the meat samosa with vegetable samosa. The vegetable samosa was o.k, there is no salt in the samosa, so it tasted bland. We ordered onion kulcha, garlic naan and paratha. Kulcha and garlic naan tasted good with the mushroom curry we ordered, paratha taste was o.k but looked like one of those frozen parathas you get from Indian stores. We also tried one of their in-house specials karai gost which is lamb curry, the curry tasted good but the lamb was not so marinated with the curry. I finally wanted to try their orange sorbet desert as it sounded different, the serving was very good, frozen sorbet inside a real orange. The orange sorbet taste was not that great it reminded me about the taste of orange cream inside those orange cream biscuits. The bill was around $43+ tip. Sorry, will not repeat. Pros: Ambience,Clean and Service Cons: Parking,Average Food more

Great Indian Food 10/8/2007

I found this place and will be back it was clean and the food was incredible. I think probably the best in the Los Angeles area. We drove from Hollywood to try this place and it was just good. The staff was pleasant as well. If you like Indian food give them a try. Pros: Great Food more

best indian i have found in los angeles 9/21/2007

This is the first time i have ever written a review but Lal Mirch made me register and get right to it! After living in England for years and savoring every bite of indian when there, i have never found any in los angeles that compared. Then Lal Mirch opened just around the corner from our house. We decided to cheat on our local ""Bollywood"" and try it out. We were a little freaked out that beef is on the menu but they explained they are not hindu. o.k fine. We ordered the basic stuff, chicken tikka masala, vegetable korma, nan, rice. WOW!! we got spicy plus and it was amazing. the flavors, the freshness of the chicken and vegetables. not at all oily, many places the tikka masala tastes like tomato soup, not here! The korma had the right amount of sweetness and spicy and the portions were ample. The nan was fresh, and they serve ice cold newcastle.!..i don't have to spend money on a ticket to england i only have to walk down the street. The only thing i would complain about is they tried to get upsell us on everything and we found it a little annoying, but the food makes it all ok... we are thinking about ordering it again tonight! Pros: very spiced food, very fresh, white meat chicken more

Best Indian in LA 8/26/2007

The plain exterior hides one of the best Indian restaurants in LA. Having just returned from London and truly excellent Indian food, Lal Mirch's food compared very favorably. The service is polite, friendly and prompt. The understated warm decor resists the urge of other ""luxury"" Indian restaurants to accessorize with gilded statuary and flat screen TVs. We will definitely be regulars. more
