Dr Grant has been wonderful. She truly loves the animals she cares for and will do what ever she possibly can to help. I have had bad experiences with other clinics in the past but Dr Grant and her staff has shown that there are doctors who actually care about their patients. I highly recommend her and her staff. more

I have been going to dr grant for over a year for my sweet cockatiel\r Bird to get his nails trim . Never thought they where very professional but it really did not brother me because I was always in and out with short visits. My vet does not take care of birds. One time she charged me 80.00 because she said that she gave my bird a shot to keep him from pulling and picking at his feathers, never came out to get my consent. I thought that vets always take their animals charts in before they checked any animal Monday morning I took my bird in for his nails to be trimed and asked her asst. to have her check his wing because it had a bald spot ,did not look sore.they were running to get his chart they threw the pet cat they have out of the room .She came out to wave me in a room to tell me that my bird was DEAD. WOW !!!! I asked what happen she said she did not know and that bird get stress out. This was a normal morning he talked to me all the way there and within 15 mins in that back room he was gone. I have a feeling something when very wrong in there. Do Not let them take your baby back there without you being there. She said that he was fine getting his nails done and then she put him down and was going to pick him back up to chech his wing. Why would she put him down and then pick him back up???? I have this strong feeling that she made a big mistake and I just know that she will need to live with that I loved my sweet baby bird .i miss coming out in the morning and him giving me kisses sounds and saying love you .I am so so sad to think that a nail trim turn out to be a nightmare, more

KIM EDWARDS\r I AM NOT A CLIENT OF DR GRANT BUT ACCOMPANIED MY BEST FRIEND TO AN APPT. TO LAKE WHEELER ANIMAL HOSPITAL. WHAT I WITNESSED WAS AN INTERACTION BETWEEN CLIENT AND DOCTOR THAT WAS UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE! MY FRIEND HAS A CAT THAT HAS CHRONIC RENAL DISEASE AND A QUESTION WAS ASKED ABOUT HIS CONDITION ACTUALLY BY ME BECAUSE I'M A PERSON THAT HAS WORKED AS VET. TECH. FOR 5 YEARS 2 OF THEM AT A CRITICAL CARE HOSPITAL. THE TECH. AT LAKE WHEELER RELAYED THE QUESTION TO DR GRANT. DR GRANT CAME INTO THE ROOM AND DIRECTED IN A RUDE AND ANGERY WAY HER OPINION OF THE ANSWER. SHE ACTED AS IF SHE HAD TO DEFEND HERSELF AND HER ANSWER OF BEING RIGHT INSTEAD OF GAINING NEW INSITE INTO THE ANIMALS CONDITION AND TREATING THE ANIMAL ACCORDINGLY. AFTERWARDS I REQUESTED TTHE ANIMALS BLOOD WORK AND ACQUIRED A SECOND OPINION BASED ON IT AND IT WAS QUITE DIFFERENT THAN DR GRANT. FROM MY OBSERVATIONS SHE IS RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL. more

I have had several bad experiences at this facility since taking my dog hre since 2011. Each time I have called or dropped my dog off for boarding I was given a n attitude by the staff. Today I went in to pick up my dog and experience bad attitude and unprofessionalism from the Dr Grant. There was no reason for it as I had questions about what was told to me on other occasions about the k9 influenza shots they require. After reading others reviews about this facility and this staff I will no longer take my dog there for boarding. I felt disrespected and felt I was in the wrong for asking a question as a client. Think twice before taking your pet there. more

Best Veterinarian 10/22/2012

While Dr. Grant may not have the most modern and new high dollar facility, she does strive to perform good veterinary medicine. She has been the veterinarian for my pets for 16yrs and I travel 30 mins across town to see her. She is a no bones kind of doctor and I completely respect this about her. She has never treated myself or my pets with anything but complete respect and caring. One of my dogs can be very difficult to handle and while others have refused to see him due to this, Dr. Grant has always taken the time with him and has never once said she would not see him. I feel that her prices are very reasonable in this horrible economy and I will continue to bring my 3dogs to see her. more

We were scheduled for a 10:20am appointment, but we were running 5 minutes late. At 10:23am we received a call from the vet's office asking why we missed our appointment. We explained we were not even 5 minutes from the office (we were on Lake Wheeler Road at I40) and we were told we could leave the dog and pick her up later or reschedule. This is unacceptable. We turned around and came home. I called the office at 10:31am and spoke with Dr. Grant. When I explained what happened I was told she books her appointments in 20 minute intervals and I was being inconsiderate to the people who booked appointments after mine. How? If Dr. Grant has the time to take my phone call in the same 20 minute interval allotted to me originally, how could she not have taken the same time to see my puppy and give the shot she required? I understand we were running late, but to be so nasty to your client is unacceptable. I found Dr. Grant to be rude, offensive, and unprofessional. I will tell everyone I know not to use this practice. I will also report this to the Better Business Bureau. I will also find every single review site and post this. more

Love this practice, its inexpensive, and Doctor Grant really cares about the pets that she treats. She is always very quick to explain things to me about my pets and their options for various treatments. My questions are answered thoroughly and I feel safe leaving my pets under the care of this Veterinarian and Staff. more

Hit or Miss with Dr. Grant 11/21/2011

I really enjoyed the first visit to this vet. It seemed very relaxed and Dr. Grant was very comfortable with my fussy pet. Unfortunately, that didn't last after I told her I wanted to wait on getting her spayed. The reason was because we weren't financially able to do it that month. I didn't even get to that explanation before she gave me the cold shoulder. She got fussy and pushy and began describing in gross detail the consequences of not going through with it. I politely told her that I understood and I love my dog and would never jeopardize her health on purpose. The next visit was a check up to make sure our dog didn't have stomach problems. She was fine, but when Dr. Grant listened to her heart she said she had a murmur which could be because of heart worms. We told her we would decide that later after a more thorough check up because our last vet (who was great and we only parted ways with because we moved to a new city) had checked her out not even a month before Dr. Grant and said everything sounded fine. When we said we'd wait, she got huffy again. She tried to make us feel like terrible owners, but instead she nearly lost our business. I refused to take my pet back, but my husband suggested we do the spaying and then look for a new vet. After she was spayed, she seemed to be nicer and was much more polite and helpful. We were even introduced to one of her beautiful babies that was visiting her for the day. All seemed well and I figured it was okay to continue with her thinking that she had just had a bad day the last visit. When we brought our dog back for another minor thing, she was rude and accused my husband of poorly caring for our dog during her recovery which is FAR from the case. Our dog is our baby. We are always doing whatever she needs. We take obedience classes, we train her, we exercise her, we feed her, groom her, love her. We were completely shocked by her accusation. I have never had anyone accuse me of not caring for my dog! If you ask anyone who knows us or any of our neighbors who interact with us and our dog, they would LAUGH from shock at us being accused of ill treatment. The front desk person actually noticed that the reason our dog was able to hurt herself was because she could still reach her wound even with the special collar on. Did we get an apology? No. She simply left the room with a shrug. From then on I decided that she was not professional enough to be trusted with caring for my fur baby because if she has something against us personally, then who knows if she'll give my dog the complete care she needs? We will be looking for a new vet, but I hope Dr. Grant changes her attitude soon because she does seem extremely passionate about her field, I just don't think she really understands that being a people person is just as important when you're a vet even if your patients are not people. more

The Best! 9/13/2011

I had a wonderful appointment today with Dr. Grant. She definately knows her stuff regarding pyrenees and I would not imagine recommending anyone else for my girl. She is a done to earth veterinarian who made us feel right at home. Her staff members are very kind and gentle and have a ready smile for everyone. I wish the bigger practices had the family atmosphere that Dr. Grant has at her facility. It is not fancy, but it is clean and does not smell like a veterinary office quite often smells like. I am thrilled to have been recommended to Dr. Grant and I look forward to years of wonderful care for my pyr girl with her and her staff. more

Guess they don't teach people skills in Vet School 6/2/2011

I switched to this clinic because of the cost of caring for my 3 pets. They seemed to have good inexpensive care however, after my first visit I found that the doctor , Sandra Grant., has absolutely no people skills although I will say I think she is very knowledgeable and good with animals. Saying this though, the doc needs to understand that it is the owners that pay the bills, not the pets, so if she wants to keep good paying clients, she should brush up on her customer etiquette. An example of her bad customer service: if she really doesn't like you, she will have one of her staff come and take your pet out of the exam room (which is a huge no no for me right off the bat) so she can exam it in the back and has to spend as little time with you, the paying poriton of the customer, as possible. When she does come into the exam room it's always with an aire of you are taking up too much of her time. She might explain everything to you if you ask enough questions although it will all be in medical terminology that you have to have an MVD degree to understand. If you ask her to explain what she just said in a language you can understand she will roll her eyes, act like you're an idiot, and give you the coldest comentary like she is speaking below herself. Speak in laymans terms doc. Most people don't understand medical terminology. Also, don't question her diagnosis or tell her what you think about this particular ailment because she is the ""expert"" and she really does not want to hear what you have to say, period, even though you know your pet inside and out. I also was charged for an office visit that was the staffs fault for booking an appointment that could not be completed because my pet had eaten and needed to be sedated for the procedure but no one asked me if she had eaten. Totally unacceptable! Side Note: when I took my dog to Banfield for the same procedure the next day, they didn't have to sedate her and I got three times the x-rays for half the price. One ofther thing. I had recommended this vet to a friend who needed to get her dogs teeth cleaned and this vet was running a special for that particular month. Well, my friend did not have good things to say about the staff. She dropped her dog off in the morning and told the staff that she would not be able to PU the dog until right before closing because she worked in Durham and could not get off work early. When she arrived at 5:50, there was another customer in front of her that was checking out so she patiently waited her turn. When she got to the counter to pay, the vet assist. was rude and made a comment about how late my friend was in picking up her pet. Just one more example of bad customer service. Needless to say, my friend will not be back to Lake Wheel Vet Hospital and she always makes a comment to me like ""You're still going to that rude vet?"" when I would mention to her that I had to take one of my pets to the doctor. If your pet can drive and take itself to the vet and then pay for it, I would send them to this doc however, if you, as the owner and paying customer must interact with this doctor and staff, I recommend you find somewhere else where you're welcome and you and your pet get good medical AND customer service, I did! Last but not least, if you're an existing customer and want your records sent to another vet, be prepared to spend $25 if your pets chart is over 5 pages long. I guess they have so many people leaving their clinic that they have to make money somehow. I told them which 5 pages to send and kept it right at 5 pages. Unbelieveably bad customer service!!!! more

HORRIBLE SERVICE AND PROFESSIONALISM 10/23/2009

I made an appt. for this AM to have my dog spayed, after taking her in at 8 this morning, I was called 30 min. later saying the Dr. had an emergency and could not perform the surgery. OK it happens. But when I asked to make another appt, I was told to Dr. would have to call me back. ODD, the front staff booked my 1st appt. Well, as of 3, the Dr. had never called so I left work to get my dog. I was then SHOCKED to hear the Dr. had been there all day, never called me, LOL, and tried to charge me for an exam. As of 6 pm, still no word from the Dr. appologizing I would not EVER going to this VERY unprofessional Dr. Pros: front staff great, The Dr. Sandra Grant is terrible Cons: unprofessional more

Disappointed 6/2/2009

I was disappointed by my visit to Lake Wheeler Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Grant lacked professionalism and the facility was sub-par. Dr. Grant was unwilling to answer questions I had regarding my pet's ailments and the procedures he would be going through. Although she seemed generally knowledgeable, I questioned her competence. Her office seemed suitable for basic vaccines and routine check-ups, not much else. Overall, I would not recommend her as a veterinarian. more
