5 Star - 5 Diamond Resort in Service and Quality 9/18/2010

This by far is the most incredible experience/value in The United States. This Resort sits on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the quaint Dana Point Harbor. From the water featured monument signs to the top of the lounge deck you feel this sense of arrival with breath taking views. The lobby can be described as simply jaw dropping gorgeous yet warm and very inviting. The valet ""boys"" are poised and ready to assist you with a warm welcome and the front desk staff is so warm and sincere. The entire staff was the most well trained and professional staff we have ever experinced.\r Everywhere we turned, the staff was smiling and greeting us- they acrually have been trained to make eye contact and greet every guest from the housekeepers to the pool staff.\r We were absolutely blown away by the service and the quality of this newly renovated resort. Two pools with the best looking staff all greeted you and came around every hour on the hour withdifferent treats, They offered fresh slice fruit, evian mist, popsicles and even went around cleaning sun glasses. Talk about being pampered - WOW!! They have a fantastic kids club program with movie nights and the kids even get a free breakfast with chocolate chip pancakes - eggs - bacon just for going to the free movie night with a real old fashion pop corn machine.\r Food incredible - Staff by far the best ever - We also met the General Manager who seemed to be everywhere day and night smiling and working side by side with his staff over the weekend. \r The Ritz - St Regis better be worried because this product and this price is by far the best value anywhere.\r My wife and I both agreed that even if this was more then those other resorts, we would stay here because of the staff alone!!! This is a GEM of all GEMS....... more

Can't beat the location. High on the hill above Dana Point marina. Great views. Not sure about the rooms but the food could be better more

Don't Stay Here! 8/14/2010

The property is in a great location and has a great view of the harbor. \r Pros: The pools are acceptable one on each side of the property, especially the kid’s pool. Also on Saturday nights they have movie night for the kids where they have candy drinks and popcorn for the kids. You can use the internet to print your airline boarding pass. \r Cons: A large public park is in front of the property, every view out of your hotel window is of the large family cookouts on picnic tables, people throwing the Frisbee, laying out in the grass, loud music, grilling, and piles of trash. \r Our rooms 308 and 309 had a sewer smell coming from the bathroom, which we later found backed up into the bathtubs. They had to come in to our room one night because the 1st floor rooms were flooding due to issues in our room (11pm). \r They did remodel but it looks more like paint and furniture, the building and plumbing are old and need repair. The hotel did refund the points I used for one of the rooms but for some reason didn’t want to refund the points for my other room. \r I called the General Manager, Jim Samuels, three times and he never returned my calls. He sent me his assistant Felix, who had no authority to compensate us for this stay. Still waiting for a return call. \r The hotel staff overall is very stale, untrained, unprofessional, confused and cold. The only person with personality was James in the valet. \r This is a marginal hotel with a marginal staff. It is a reflection of the GM, Jim Samuels, who does not empower his employees to make decisions. He does not care enough to come out of his office and face the problems on his own. He seems like a rookie at managing hotels. This hotel lacks class and an exclusive feel for its location. \r Expect to pay for internet. The fitness center is average and typical of other Marriott properties. more

Amazing View 5/18/2009

Make sure you receive a room with a full view of the ocean. The weather is perfect this time of year. There is construction going on right now and the fire alarm did malfunction two days in a row VERY early in the morning. The facility itself is updated and in an upscale location. Right across from the ocean and wharf. Plenty of options to shop and dine within walking distance. more

For meetings not so much! 12/3/2008

This is a great place for a romantic getaway, but not a meeting. No conference rooms with a view. The food is expensive and sleeping rooms are too. \r Now they have a Sunday Brunch that is good...but the cost doesn't include champagne. more

Nice views. 11/17/2008

Not quite up to Marriot standards, but a nice location near the Dana Point Harbor. Beautiful views from the park right next to the hotel. The rooms themselves are a little small. more

This spa is fantastic! 11/6/2008

Luxury spa, located at the Laguna Cliffs Resort offers vitamin C facials that are out of this world. For a special getaway, book the day spa private room, where you can enjoy the same amenities, plus a private patio, jacuzzi, and lunch! It is about the same price as other luxury spas, but for a one day getaway that feels like a weekend, it's well worth it! Excellent service. more

Editorial review from Insider Pages 12/22/2004

This hotel overlooks the ocean and is within walking distance of the beach. While staying there we saw two weddings (we were there on a Saturday). The rooms were reasonable in price and the decor was decent. Its certainly not the Ritz, but it was clean, close to the beach and a great location. I highly recommend. more

Top Knotch! 5/29/2002

I've stayed at this hotel twice and was pleased both times. Most rooms have an ocean view. The hotel is a very quick walk from the Doheney State Beach and also a quick walk to the marina where there are a number of restaurants and tourist shops. The hotel also has a kids club (a complementary babysitting service). Pros: great location, family friendly more
