We had a wonderful/enjoyable meal. We were lucky enough to walk right in. Freddie our server was excellent!!!

Worst

As a first timer in Savannah we had to go to the Paula Dean's famous Lady & Sons restaurant. I expected the wait to be long, which it was, two and a half hours I think. The staff ...

Mediocore Overpriced Tourist Food 6/28/2008

I was born and raised in the South with a family of southern cooks. I've lived in the Savannah area for over ten yrs. I hadn't even heard of ""Lady & Sons"" until some Northern relatives wanted to go there. The food is underwhelmingly mediocore!! Do not subject yourself to standing out in the GA heat (starting at 5 AM!?) for pricey mac'n'cheese that you have to get yourself like cattle. This resturant is the joke of locals. Pros: You might enjoy it as an experience if you love Paula Deen, but don't subject those in your group who aren't fans. Cons: Not very southern, average food, ridiculous long lines to get reservations, crowded more

Tourist beware 5/14/2008

Tourist trap! The food is mediocre, the restaurant is tacky an overpriced. The lines are always incredibly long during tourist season. Listen to any of their conversations as they're coming out and they'll tell you one thing- Save yourself some cash and go to KFC- it's the same thing. more

Hospitality at it's finest 4/9/2008

This was simply THE best dining experience I'v e ever had. On a recent visit to Savannah a friend recommended Lady and Sons buffet for dinner. I was somewhat familiar with Paula Dean but was expecting something completely different. Don't let the word ""buffet"" fool you. While each dish looked familiar; fried chicken, black-eyed peas, turnip greens, squash ""casserole"", meatloaf, etc.; each had an exquiste twist of flavoring, texture, or sauce that gave it a distinctive, yet very southern, composition. Pros: Fast friendly service, great value, delicious Cons: parking more

A Lot of Southern Charm and Great Home-Style Southern Cooking 4/2/2008

My daughter and I visited Savannah, Georgia during the Easter holidays. Being fans of Paula Deen, one of the most important items on our agenda was to eat at The Lady and Sons. This is Paula's restaurant in downtown Savannah. We were not disappointed. We simply walked to the restaurant while touring Savannah and made a reservation for that night with the hostess outside the restaurant. We returned to have the buffet. The food was plentiful, hot and delicious. There was a great selection to choose from. From fried chicken to low-country boil seafood. We sampled everything on the buffet and was greatly pleased. It was seasoned to perfection. The waiter we had was courteous and kept us with clean plates and plenty of tea. When we were through with the buffet we were shown a tray of different desserts to choose from. Peach cobbler, key lime pie, and gooey chocolate chip butter cake were some of the desserts offered. We were equally pleased with the dessert. The restaurant was very clean and the employees warm and friendly. I would highly recommend The Lady and Sons to anyone visiting Savannah. Pros: Great food, service and prices Cons: can be difficult to get a reservation more

Great 3/25/2008

Believe the hype. We visited Easter Sunday and had wonderful food and service. Our waiter, Jerome, was great. He was very hospitable, it was buffet so he made sure we weren't ever low on tea and had a clean table. The food was good. I was a little hesitant after reading some of the reviews, bad service, bad food ect. but let me say that was not the case for us. The decor was nice and the staff was very friendly and helpful from the hostess to the lady who told us goodbye when we left. There was always fresh food on the buffet and it was kept clean. The food was well seasoned and cooked just right. If you are a fan of Paula's or just love a good meal I'd say it's worth a go. Pros: great food great service more

Rave revue 2/19/2008

My husband and I recently visited Savannah while on vacation. We were told by friends to visit The Lady & Sons. We were extremely pleased with all aspects of our experience there, everything from the hostess to the fabulous waiter and of course don't forget the incredible food. Certainly would recommend it to anyone in the area.\r \r Sue in PA more

Yummy southern food 2/3/2008

This is a must stop if you're visiting Savannah. Yes, there is a line, but if you go early, they will give you a time to come back. Paula Deen's restaurant does southern like nobody else. They have a buffet of you can order off the menu. There's also a small gift shop that offers unique items for sale. more

The Lady and Sons 1/31/2008

Nobody does southern cooking like Paula Deen. You cannot come to Savannah without trying her buffet. It is delicious. You may also order from the menu . The new restaurant is expansive and has an upstairs bar. Drop by and enjoy a great meal ; who knows ? You might get to meet The Lady herself ! more

Good food, mediocre service 12/3/2007

Luckily we got a reservation rather easily. We walked by on a Tuesday evening around seven and made one for a couple of hours later. The place is massive, it's a bit overwhelming. So big that it doesn't feel personable. And knowing Paula Deen is a personable kind of gal, I was suprised at this. I guess you have to make it huge though so you can feed all the people who want to eat there. The servers were nice enough but nothing more, almost borderline snobby. Being in the south I was excepting some of that great charm they're (especially Paula!) famous for, but I was not finding that here. Another disappointment. Everything on the menu sounded so delicious. I could not decide. Being torn between a few different seafood dishes, I asked for the server's opinion. Her response was, ""Which of those fish do you like the best? Then you should get that one."" That is not necessarily true and I really think that was quite a lazy and pathetic response. I ended up getting the fried lobster tails and I regretted it. I wish I would have gotten something that was an acutal recipe, and not just sticking fish in a fryer. So that's what I suggest to you if you eat there- get something that's actually a little involved, the chicken potpie for instance looked incredible, I'm still kicking myself for not getting that. My husband got the crab cakes and they were pretty awesome. We also had some hot seafood appetizer that was super yummy. I would like to go back next time I'm in town and try some more things, and hopefully the servers will be friendlier. Pros: food Cons: service more

Not what it was orginally. 11/8/2007

This restaurant once had a good lunch, but now it is extremely overrated. The kitchen uses entirely too much sodium chloride in the food. I do not understand what happened after Paula moved to the current location. It is sad. more

How exciting! 9/29/2007

This is such a great place to go if you really enjoy watching Paula Deen! Her restaurant has great spices and other food items you can buy. The food is really tasty and the buffet is perfect for any time of the day! The environment is so surreal being in her restaurant! You are waiting for her or her sons to come out and say hi.. oh btw I hear they stop by! more

LOCALS AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE 8/27/2007

If there is one sure thing about the diners at lady and sons, i guarantee you none of them are from savannah. we laugh openly at the poor tourists foolish enough to wait, sometimes for 5 hours, outside in the opressive low country heat occasionaly being spritzed with mist like cabbage in the kroger produce section, to keep them from getting heat stroke. its a buffet. an unremarkable buffet. if you''re looking to wati for some true down home cooking head up a few blocks to jones street where you'll find mrs. wilkes boarding house. Its worth the wait and more importantly you wait in the shade Pros: you get to know the corner of congress... really well more

Good food!!! 8/4/2007

Just what you would expect from Paula Deen. Good southern comfort food. The wait is a little long though. Pros: Great food. Cons: Long wait. more

WAAAAAY Over-rated 7/31/2007

""Hey YA'LL."" Unfortunately the people she has doing the cooking are not good Southern Cooks . For people who flock to Savannah from all over the country thinking they're gonna eat good old country cooking are being duped. Pros: Fair to middlin service Cons: Stand in line forever, yukky over priced food more

YUCK 6/6/2007

If you want your whole meal fried and fatty this is the place to go! Its only popular because of the face on TV, and she is NEVER there. You can wait in line with everyone else OR you can go somewhere else that is actually good fresh food! Pros: ....? if you go, order off the menu. Cons: almost everything. more

Good southern cooking 5/30/2007

Very good food. My wife and I enjoyed the buffet with a choice of chicken (fried and baked) and another meat and about 10 sides in which to choose. The fried chicken was very good as Paula says. everything cooked done and tender not just heated until it is hot. Everything I had was seasoned well. I had to wait a long time due to us going on a holiday weekend so they were very busy but the experience was worth the wait. Pros: very good southern food Cons: the wait at times more

A Must For All Paula Fans, Great Buffet, Wonderful Service, Will Definitely Go Back!!! 3/19/2007

My husband and I traveled to Savannah, Georgia April 9-12 2007. We were lucky enough to get a table at The Lady & Sons. Since it was a Sunday, we had the buffet. It was wonderful. The fried Chicken, and roast beef were excellent, as well as the vegetables, cream corn, mashed potatoes, collard greens etc. My husband's favorite were the sweet potatoes, he couldn't quit talking about how good they were. The garlic, cheese biscuits were the best I have eaten. The atmosphere was relaxed, not stuffy at all. As a matter of fact ,as we were being seated, one of the waitresses was seranading a group of ladies with the song ""unforgettable"". My husband did comment that he thought the restaurant would have been more fancy, but I told him, that I would have been surprised if it had been a fancy place. After all Paula's just a down home country girl!!! I am huge Paula fan, and wasn't disappointed at all. I can't wait to go back!!! Pros: Wonderful Food Cons: Took a while to find a parking space, but was definitely worth it more

Don't Take A Chance!!!!!!!!!!!! 3/10/2007

We had a party of 6 and planned to eat here Sat. March 10. I called Tuesday before and talked to the host and was to be there at 3:30 to put our name on the list. We drove almost 5 hours and arrived at 2:45 and found out that it was already booked by parties of 10 or more. To make a reservation there has to be atleast 10. I did exactly as the host told me and still could not eat here. It appears that all they care about is money and large parties. Don't take a chance unless you have a large party!!!! Pros: Don't know Cons: No Southern Hospitality more

Loved It! 2/11/2007

We arrived for the 3:30 appointment line and got the time we wanted. Then, came back at that time and were seated promptly. The service was outstanding, and the food was amazing. I took a look at the buffet but it looked a little too much Golden Corral so I went with an order off the menu. I had the very crispy fried shrimp with AMAZING roasted potatoes and wonderful cole slaw. The cheese biscuits could not have been better. Overall, I'd say the service I received was the best possible, the food although fatty could not have tasted better, however the ambience could have been better. There was nothing special about the atmosphere. I'd still highly recommend though! Pros: Service!!, Food!! Cons: Ambience was disappointing more
