Best Little Place in Old Town 8/26/2006

We are so happy we stumbled upon this little restaurant in Old Town. The atmosphere, staff, food and wine were outstanding. Unlike most of the other restaurants nearby, it was not overcrowded and it was easy to enjoy a conversation during our meal. The zuchinni-wrapped scallops appetizer was fantastic and the salmon with a dijon-balsamic sauce was perfectly prepared. It was also very convenient to get reservations through OpenTable. Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere more

Romantic, hip dining 8/16/2006

Never noticed this place before, but it's a great find. Food is delicious, ambience is cool, and didn't even need a reservation. Great date place. They were even projecting the movie Casablanca onto the wall. Would recommend the rolled eggplants with goat cheese (actually, all the appetizers were good) and risotto. Pros: Great ambience, good food more

It's been too long 8/9/2006

I went to La Maschera when it first opened. I loved it the first time and went again recently....better than ever!! The owners are so incredibly good at what they do and the the chef....I wish he could be my personal chef : ).....so good at what they do. I don't drink anymore, but their bar sure is tempting!! Pros: the staff more

Amazing wine lounge and olive bar 5/23/2006

The wine lounge here is THE perfect place to dine. The atmosphere is romantic, with low lounge chairs, gorgeous Moroccan lanterns, black-and-white movies like Casablancaits the ideal place for a date or girls night out. Their wine list is impressive, especially since I love Italian wines. They also offer the full dinner menu in the lounge, but I prefer to order several plates of appetizers from the bar menu instead, especially since they now have an Olive Bar. It's greatyou can snack on olives, cheese and olive oil while sipping wine all night long. Last time I went with my boyfriend they also had live music; it was a little loud for intimate conversation, but my boyfriend is a musician so he LOVED it. Definitely check it out! Pros: Delicious food, Ambiance, Personable staff more

Best Food In Old Pasadena...Easily 5/10/2006

I think the last reviewer has this place confused with somewhere else. This is La Maschera on Fair Oaks in Old Pasadena and it is fantastic! The food is off-the-charts delicious as well as the wines (and I'm an admitted wine snob from Napa). The chef was trained in Naples (as opposed to Tiajauna) and you can taste his pride in every dish. Treat yourself to the following: Heart of palm salad, followed by the lamb chops, Tiramisu for dessert (made by the chef nightly). That runs about $35. If that's expensive, I suggest King Taco. As to atmosphere, all of the furniture was handmade by the father of one of the owners. The sense of pride of the ownership is clear every time you enter this place. My wife and I eat here three times a week. Always love it. Cant understand the prior reviewer. Theres always one. more

Disappointing evening 4/2/2006

My boyfriend and I should have taken the rude service we received when making a reservation as a clue to how our dinner would pan out. The ambiance was dull and unexciting and the waitstaff seemed distracted--when we went to order wine at the bar, the bartender actually walked away to tend to personal business. The food was truly disappointing--the veggie pizza consisted of corn and zucchini and the tomato sauce on the chicken pizza tasted canned. I felt more like I was in a fancy cafeteria than a supposedly nice restaurant. The house wines were bland and my white wine was served in a red wine glass since they were all out of white wine glasses (a surprise since the bar was practically empty and restaurant was no where close to full). We felt ripped off and will never return. Pros: Quiet Cons: Expensive, Poor service, Bad Food more

Amazing Atmosphere, Happy Hour 1/27/2006

I was so happy to stumble upon a new place in Old Town. The lighting and decor are beautiful, and you can tell the bar staff are passionate about the wines. Good music, too. During happy hour, we had 2 glasses of wine and 2 appetizers and the bill came to $18. It seems good for groups, but it would be hard to sit at a big table and an intimate conversation--a little loud. Pros: Great food, Atmosphere, Happy Hour more

Nice New spot in Old Town 12/16/2005

Your place rocks. I can't say I've had a better experience dining. The owners are so friendly and professional. You can tell they love what they do. The menu is awesome too. Their food is a clever twist on traditional Italian. They're martinis are delicious as well. You gotta bring your friends or dates here. Pros: The Food, The decor, The staff more
