Better Than Ever 5/9/2011

We have always loved the food at our neighbor's La Frite, but everything there is now better than ever. New menu is great; don't be afraid of change if you are a long-time fan like we are. more

Stuck in the 80's 7/2/2009

The service was a little slow but the biggest concern was the food. Everything felt like it hadn't changed since the 80's. From the deep friend brie and sauce to my main course, it just felt uninspired. For the prices, this was not good value for money. The only time you should go there is if you have a picky grandmother with you. Pros: homestyle cooking Cons: stuck in the 80's more

Delightful 6/22/2009

I had read reviews that complained about how wretched the service was at La Frite, and I could not disagree more. Our server was absolutely delightful and prompt. I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience here. In fact, I went back again a week later, and enjoyed the same wonderful service. Pros: Great Service, extensive menu more

FANTASTIC! 1/2/2009

We wandered in after a terrible experience at another nearby restaurant . What a great surprise! The atmosphere is a bit dated, but the manager and our waitress (Jeri) were both TERRIFIC, and the food was excellent as well. The frites are outstanding, and the bread is warm and crusty - it's just to die for! I'd recommend the baked brie, mussels, and all the meat choices. The fish was nothing exciting, although the portion was enormous. Dessert crepes were very well done. What a warm neighborhood gem! We will definitely be back - they rescued what would have otherwise been a disasterous night! Pros: Food and service are excellent Cons: Parking on Ventura Blvd, atmosphere is dated more

Great food, enjoyable experience 12/30/2008

I recently ate here for the first time. Unlike some other reviewers, I had no problem at all with the service. It was prompt and frequent. The food was excellent...it's worth the trip just for the bread. And when I asked for a substitution, it was accommodated immediately and without attitude. The tables are very close together and it's a little noisy. But I had a great meal. My friends who went with me eat there regularly, and they say they've never had bad service there. And we were allowed to sit and chat at our table without feeling rushed (just like a restaurant in France). Pros: Food, service Cons: Tables are close together more

Very Unprofessional Service in every way 9/12/2008

We went here because we got a coupon in the mail. But then of course we forgot to take our coupon so we didn't get to use it anyways. Boy that made the dinner even more miserable. When we arrived our table wasn't set so the person that seated us came by while we were reading our menu's and pushed them out of the way so he could literally through down a paper place mat and silverware. To top it off they had nice folded standing napkins that he just plopped down, one made it standing up, the other squished just laying on it's side. After that lovely display we had to listen to a server yelling at her boss right behind us in the dining room. It had the potential to be a very nice place but the people working there ruined every moment. Then in the middle of our dinner our server drops our check. She says she had to because they were closing. It was close to 11pm which was when they closed but as previously being a server myself that doesn't mean through your customers out as soon as the clock strikes closing time. That was ridiculous. We didn't even get to order our dessert. Well we left because they were obviously closing. Went to get our car from valet and the guy was on a little walk. My husband had to get his attention to come back so we could get our car. Then he just hands us the keys, my husband has to pull the car out himself so I can get in because the valet parked it so close to the bushes you couldn't open my door. Then he takes our money and doesn't give us any change. We will never go back there again. more

Good food, not great service 8/25/2008

The food here is good. They have amazing burgers of different kinds with great little french fries. Also, they do a good twist on crepes, not serving them how you usually see them, but almost like a lasagna. Great lamb chops and duck. The only negative is the service. Waiters look angry and run away from your table so quickly, you don't even have time to place your full order. Cons: unfrindly service more

Mediocre food, unfriendly service. 7/21/2008

I expected good service and great food from this restaurant, but they really missed the mark. The waiter was unfriendly and never offered us bread or water. My food was mediocre at best and not worth the price. To make matters worst they charged my card twice. When I called to rectify the problem, the lady who answered was rude and not apologetic at all. She gave me a poor explanation and said their office would get back to me. I certainly won't be dinning there again. more

Bunch is GREAT! 4/27/2008

I have dined at La Frite for Lunch, Dinner and Brunch -- Brunch is hands down the best time to go. Brunch is only served on Saturday and Sunday, but the never ending all-inclusive booze makes our weekend morning delightful every time! Pros: Great Brunch! Cons: n/a more

Just BAD. 2/23/2008

Slow service, horrible management, mediocre food. I do feel bad saying slow service (management tends to throw many tables at the already inadequate servers, something I noticed having previously worked in restaurants myself) But also, there is a horrible woman working there who I've seen berate her staff, and curse (LOUD) both times I've been there! The reviewer who mentioned ""bitter"", got the nail on the head! I will never go back. This restaurant is a joke. Pros: Umm... the food was hot? Cons: Everything else. more

Great Food, Bad Service 12/28/2007

I am a frequent diner at La Frite. I go to both restaurants (one is by my house, one by my office), I absolutely adore the food. Can't get enough of the crepes, filet mignon and the deserts are to die for (creme brulee is my favorite). However, I can not get over how rude the servers and managers can be. The last time I was at the Sherman Oaks location my waitress really did not seem like she was happy to be there, and was constantly fighting with her co-workers. And at the Woodland Hills location, my waitress ordered the wrong crepe for me, it was fine, I was willing to wait for the correct one, and the manager was rude and accused me of ordering something else...I realize this does happen, but since when is it ok for a manager to yell at me? I have seen her there before and always feel she just seems young and immature. I am within walking distance from both restaurants, depending on if I am home or at work, and will keep on walking if I see either of these employees. They make the amazing food seem almost bitter. more

It's OK 12/27/2007

Le Frite is not bad and not great, it's just OK. It does feel very French inside and the service was fast and friendly. I'd try it again. I heard the Crogue Monsieur is great and haven't had the crepes yet. Pros: Average french food, good service, good drinks Cons: A little too casual... more

Delicious food, excellent friendly service, prompt service and attentive 12/16/2007

My wife, brother and I went to Le Frite on the way home from the UCLA basketball game on Saturday night. We had reservations at 7:30 and we were seated promptly, the server came to us promptly. My wife and brothe had the filet mignon with le frites and it was delicious and the shallot sauce was excellent. I had the New York with le frite with brandy sauce and it was one of the best steaks I have ever had. I also had the hearts of palm appetizer and it was outstanding. Two other reviews from Biobabe and Sanjeev G I don't understand. They must be spoiled to the core at home because our service and food was outstanding and even though we live in the San Gabriel Valley, we intend to return to Le Frite and recommend it to some of our friends. And also, yes there is valet parking, but if Biobabe had read the sign, it also says you can self park, in bold letters. So wake up Biobabe, there is another world besides your own. Thanks Le Frite for a very nice evening. Pros: Food, ease of parking in back, service Cons: None, it is a old style French restaurant so it is small and busy more

great if you have 4 hours 11/17/2007

The cute looks of this place will deceive you. My sister and I wanted a nice, relaxing dinner. Instead, we left stressed out and p***ed off. We were not offered any food or bread for 20 min. Our water was never filled, our food took almost an hour to get there, and was overdone at that. We sat in comedic horror as those around us came, ate, and went, and we were still waiting. Our waitress did not know how to deal with angry patrons. When our food finally came, we had to scarf it down, as we were now running late for our movie. The manager discounted our bill, but not enough to compensate for the terrible service and so-so food. A total bust. Pros: ? Cons: terrible service, valet parking only more

Great Food and Great Atomsphere! 11/6/2007

I've gone to La Frite for years! The restaurant is usually busy so I recommend reservations. The crepes are excellent as well as the french onion soup! They're also known for one of the best spinach salads I've tasted. I wonder what is in that dressing? And... don't forget dessert! Everything is good!! Pros: delicious food!! Cons: busy and crowded; valet parking more

Food disappoints for price 10/13/2007

Food disappointing for price. Waitress argued with my date over his trout. Manager only offered a free dessert to compensate. They only have valet parking. I've been twice, but won't be returning. Pros: Patio seating Cons: Parking, Food Quality more

Favorite Neighborhood Joint 5/6/2006

This has been our neighborhood joint for the past couple of years, and we've never had a bad experience with the service here... Plus, they're always very sweet to our daughter and have a good kids' menu. Pros: Open all day, large menu more

5 Reasons why it's AWFUL 1/9/2006

1) They took forever to even take down our order 2) Not because they were busy; because our waiter was talking to buddies at the bar 3) Then Disappeared the rest of the night except to bring us the bill after he'd done nothing, another waitress brought the food and the busboy refilled our drinks 4) We asked him to refill the drinks and he didn't which is why we had to ask the busboy 5) Last because the crepes were bland, and the quiche was nothing special. Terrible experience. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Terrible Service, Food more
