Fabulous Italian Experience--Great Food & First Class Customer Service! 9/14/2007

I moved to Philadelphia from Boston almost a year ago. After one trip to La Fourno Trattoria, it has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in Philadelphia! When I called and asked for a last minute reservation for fifteen people, I wasn?t put on hold but immediately transferred to the Manager. The manager was extremely courteous and cared enough to ask about the special occasion we would be celebrating. He also called the day before my dinner in order to confirm my reservation.\r \r When my party arrived, our table was beautifully set up and tucked away in a convenient spot. The ambience of the restaurant is cosy and perfect for a large group or an intimate dinner for two. The lighting, the candle?it was great.\r \r The waiters are excellent and were always smiling (such a delight!). They checked up on us from time to time, but with perfect precision (enough to make sure we had whatever we needed but not too much so that we felt crowded and uncomfortable). The manager checked up on us as well. Sometimes we had more than one waiter helping us. Our food got to us right on time and everything was delicious. All our orders were correct and every dish was prepared just right. The portions are large and the bread is divine! I had never been to Trattoria neither had any of my friends; we unanimously agreed that we had a fabulous time. The service was first class and I plan to celebrate more milestones there. And in between those milestones, I?ll treat my friends from Boston to a delicious Italian experience on South Street.\r \r I eat out a lot and can confidently say that this La Fourno Trattoria gets my highest recommendation. Everyone there is so friendly. The manager and waiters were genuinely happy to have us there. I see myself making multiple trips out there in the future!\r \r PS: Also, there is a VERY CLEAN bathroom convenently located upstairs. This is a big deal for me!! Pros: Ambience, Service, food, more

Best Tiramisu anywhere 4/5/2007

The staff is extremely friendly, whether you are with a party of two or a party of 10. The pizza is excellent. It comes out hot and crispy, with the perfect amount of toppings. The tiramisu is the best in the world. I have tried tiramisu at pretty much every Italian restaurant I've been to and nothing compares. It's so creamy and fluffy. There are no words to describe how amazing it is. Try it! Pros: Amazing tiramisu, great pizza, friendly staff more

Comfortable atmosphere/great food 1/29/2007

Dined here after a show. There were 10 of us and the food and service could not have been better. The servers are ALL very friendly and helpful, even if they weren't your server. The food was outstanding. As I said there were 10 of us and all of our entrees were served together and were hot, something I think is very important and found so seldom. The salad was a house salad, came with the entree, and usually they are not so good. Their house salad was fresh and very tasty. Their desserts were to die for. I can't say enough about this lovely little place tucked in on 6th and South. Don't miss it! \r \r \r \r \r \r \r \r \r \r \r Pros: everything from service to food to ambience is excellent Cons: bathroom door did not lock more

A South Street gem 1/19/2007

Outstanding, relaxed Italian restaurant. Great tasting food. Reasonable prices. Friendly, thorough, good-natured service. Casual atmosphere. I'll be back. Pros: Food, service, value, ambience Cons: South Street parking (walk or take a cab instead) more

Best Calzone I've ever had! 1/16/2007

I cannot say enough about La Fourno. This is hands down one of, if not the best Italian restaurant in Philadelphia. The service is very friendly and quick! I highly recommend the calzones, they are the best in the city. With great prices and a great atmosphere you cannot go wrong with La Fourno! Pros: The price, staff and of food of course! more

Love La Fourno 1/13/2007

This by far is my favorite Italian restaurant. I have eaten here several times now and have never been less than completely satisfied with the food and service. I've tried most of the entrees and several of the pizzas, all of which are wonderful. The Linguini Primavera is especially good. The true treasure at this place is the amazing tiramisu, the best I've ever tasted. They have a nice selection of wine, good beer available and the coffee is excellent. Perfect every time. The place itself manages to make you feel like you aren't on South Street, which is amazing and commendable. Highly suggest tryng this place. They also deliver if you live in the general vicinity. Pros: Reasonable Prices, Excellent Food Cons: Parking more

Superb cuisine at reasonable prices 1/9/2007

I have had the pleasant experience of dining at La Fourno as a patron of the restaurant and as part of a group from my office held in the private dining room. It is rare to find a restaurant that can provide food and service for a private party that is equal to that which is offered to the individual diner. La Fourno excels at both. The food, from pizza to filet mignon, is prepared with only the freshest ingredients by a highly skilled chef which results in a culinary delight for even the most finicky diner. Outstanding customer service appeared to be the primary goal of the owner and waitstaff, along with serving the most delicious food you can find in Philly. Another surprising bonus is how reasonable the prices are. Although I live and work in Wilmington, Delaware, which is 30 minutes away (when I-95 isn't gridlocked), the dining experience is more than worth the travel time. My coworkers were so pleased with our recent office party at La Fourno that many plan on returning on their own. We have only one complaint - It's not close enough for us to go there on our lunch breaks! Pros: Great private dining room for parties more

across the board great!!! 1/6/2007

I have eaten here several times and always found it to be nothing but exceptional. Even when I showed up on a friday night at 8:30 with 6 other people and the restaurant was crowded, we were seated promptly, the staff was extremely helpful and friendly and the food was excellent. Further this place is an incredible value; great portions at an incredibly reasonable price. I would say that I have probably eaten here seven different times and had seven different entrees and every one of them was prepared perfectly and presented with near flawless service. It's nice to visit a restaurant that seems to really care about delivering an across the board dining experience. Pros: food, value, service more

Can't rave enough 2/27/2005

Twelve picky women who ate here raved about the food, value, service, ambience, and the friendliness of the owner and wait staff. What more can you ask for? Pros: Reasonable price, lovely upstairs room, Friendly more

Authentic Italian food and a great atmosphere 1/21/2005

I can't recommend this restaurant more. It has wonderful, authentic Italian food and a warm and inviting atmosphere for dinner. For lunch it has great individual pizzas. Our servers always make us feel like family. It is a real gem on South Street. Pros: great food, authentic Italian, good value Cons: street parking more

Best Italian Food 10/6/2004

La Fourno serves the best Italian food and the best Pizza in a clean and friendly environment. It is right in the middle of South Street and you CANNOT beat the prices. Ask to see the Private Party room. It is beautiful. Pros: Fresh Ingredients, Authentic Italian, Great Weekly Specials more

THE BEST! 9/8/2004

As crazy as it may sound, I have searched the world over, literally, for a pizza to compare to this place! None can beat it! Everything is fresh and the oven is an original and authentic wood burning oven. I have travel from the south several times to Philly to satisfy my pizza craving that only they can resolve! Pros: Best Tasting, Authentic, GREAT more

European style pizza 6/14/2004

This is my favorite restaurant in Philadelphia. Coming back from a trip to Italy a couple years ago, I searched everywhere for pizza that was as good as in Europe, and this was the best I found. Cute atmosphere, too. more
