Who knew... 10/20/2010

Who knew that there could be such a quaint restaurant in a cozy neighborhood that looks country-like in the middle of the city - DC? It was a beautiful fall day and lunch at La Ferme was wonderful. I love that there is plenty of parking. The seasonal pumpkin soup was very tasty. I had a salmon nicoise for lunch - perfect with a big chunk of salmon. I was so full, I planned to skip desert...until the ladies at the next table were mouthing (very loudly) "POACHED PEAR...POACHED PEAR." So of course I had to try and I was glad. Wonderful... is all I can say about the pear and about the lunch. Owner stopped by the table was just too charming. The waiter could have been a bit more friendly, but it was good enough. Definitely go and try. more

Nice but overpriced 2/14/2010

The decore is very worn, as though the dining room hasn't been updated/repainted in a decade. However, the space is warm and cozy - although the fireplace in our upstairs dining area wasn't lit. Service was painfully slow. Our waiter disappeared for twenty minutes at a time. The waiter working the adjacent tables took our wine order b/c our waiter was nowhere to be seen. Food was good country French: tasty, traditional, dated. We had long waits between courses and I was served the wrong appetizer. Wine list is overpriced and limited, like most in Montgomery County. To be fair, we went on a holiday weekend after the resturant had been closed for a week due to weather and the place was packed so it may have been an off night. more

A Special Place to Go 7/21/2008

We've been spending anniversaries, special birthdays and etc. at this restaurant for many years. The food is always very good (I'll admit that it's not necessarily the best in town, but the quality of ingredients is excellent, and the presentation is lovely). The fish and game dishes are the best bets. Has a very nice wine list, and the breadth of the menu (which changes very frequently) is surpriseing for a suburban location.\r \r While it's not cheap, it's also not way over the top expensive, and we always leave filling that we've had our money's worth. The staff is wonderful and gracious; one does feel very welcome entering.\r \r The room itself is very lovely, and gives one a sense of rural country (especially in the winter when the fire place is going.)\r \r Two tips: ask for the balacony seating (it's just for 2) overlooking the vaulted dining room; very, very romantic (I'd suggest it as a place where a couple might get engaged!). Second, they often have a pianist/singer, who adds to more

Down on the Farm 4/15/2008

This is a very nice French restaurant with good food and a rustically elegant ambiance. Fresh flowers and a fire during winter make the dining area special. They also have a pretty outdoor dining area for warmer weather. Nice brunch. On the pricey side. more

Classic French Cuisine 3/24/2008

La Ferme seats 250 but with its high ceilings, exposed beams and country french decor -it feels roomy. I love the broad airy porch and cozy fireplace but I go there for the classic french-no fusion here, just tenderly prepared works of art. Watch out for generous portions. more
